Definitely an emotional ending, misses was pretty distraught.

While I'm enjoying the show and have done since episode 1 when I started, for too long there has been teasing of big battles and clashes on the horizon that have not come to pass. I really need this season to properly show a battle between armies, on screen, in depth. One of my biggest frustrations was the entire Rob arc of him being an undefeated general yet we saw no battles.

There is 2-3 BIG battles being lined up here, and I fear again the show will be a letdown in this regard, and probably show us a small melee between the Kings Guard and the Fanatics.

I feel there was a point to the whole Hodor in the court yard thing. Like Bran and the old man in the tree were away in the past, doing pretty much nothing while a bunch of white wakers and zombies were on the verge of killing them. The old man was using this as some lesson I feel in how Bran can influence the past in certain ways to some end. Otherwise there would be no point to it. Didn't the old man say they had to go and get out of there, yet later then were dreaming away like nothing happened. Still think they are some big reveals for Bran. Otherwise its kinda pointless.

Finally, someone found the silver lining to the most poetically tragic death in Game of Thrones so far...

Great episode. When I saw Jack Bender was directing then I knew we were in for a treat. My complaints are mostly cosmetic, the CGI during the final confrontation wasn't as good as Hardhome for a big walker fight.

The Dany scene was very stilted. Emilia Clarke looked strangely different, I coudldn't quite put my finger on it. The way it opens with them standing there apart talking was quite strange. It could have worked better with her walking with her people and seeing the two lads for the first time since the last episode and then going on to what they each say. Still... I like where it's going, I like Jorah and I was half expecting her to say "find a cure and come back and rule with me" :pac: Poor captain friendzone. It'll be interesting to see how he ties into things now, I presumed he'd just be exiled or else start infecting everyone because he couldn't stay and be by his queen.

Finally Arya was given something better to do, there's a struggle in her character that they hadn't quite nailed in the previous S6 episodes. Maisie was great with her scenes this week. The Faceless god will get a new face regardless, is this a test or will she run from them/turn against them? Their story has got some much needed excitement now. And... Richard E Grant. Yes!!

RIP Hodor. Let's see how Bran gets around now. It was a good exit, though it didn't quite tear at my heartstrings. Maybe I just wanted to see him torn apart more to really feel the burn, like with Oberyn.

Unless they cut to black as it's about to happen then there is definitely a battle for Winterfell as glimpsed in the trailers.

Based entirely on the TV show (not from the books) can someone explain to me who exactly the old guy was, apart from someone that was stuck in a tree?

I don't know how the White Walkers are going to get south of the wall if all it took was one fat guy leaning up against a door to stop an army of them?

Basically he was the three eyed Raven that Bran was dreaming about.

This wiki is handy for brushing up on some the stuff you've forgotten.

just wondering if the three eyed raven is what brans future is to be? (not that he is the future bran) But that Bran will be destined to a life in a similar tree. Sort of like its constantly a position that most be filled in the GOT universe.

With the master guiding the apprentince to him when the time is right.

The three eyed raven told Bran he wasn't destined to share his fate so Bran won't be stuck in a tree.

He was just getting them a head start to leg it away. He clearly wasn't keeping them at bay for much longer. Plus
next week's preview shows them being chased by walkers in the woods.

It can't be a coincidence that Arya has been sent to kill an actress playing Cersei in a play.

A few episodes back there was a scene discussing Hodors strength and ability. Apparently Hodor is comparable to the Mountain in strength and size, it's just he was never trained to fight. Pretty sure that scene was added on purpose to highlight just how big Hodor actually is in terms of him being able to "Hold the Door".

It was just a joke, i wasn't being too serious.

But it would be hilarious if in a later episode, Jon Snow just puts a bunch of fat lads up against the doors of the wall and then stares down at the White Walker army struggling to get past the doors as Jon Snow laughs his ass off.

I really hope Meera doesn't die.

I know "hope" isn't something that can be held strong in Game of Thrones but here's something that might happen. If Jon Snow can come back from the dead than perhaps White Walkers can revert to living humans. So maybe Hodor can be cured down the line. Clutching at straws I know but....

    This too shall pass.

I also have to say, those Iron Islanders have no loyalty whatsoever. The guy who admits to murdering their king randomly turns up and they all just turn against Yara and Theon and swear loyalty to the guy.

They don't seem like the brightest bunch though, in fairness.

He's not just a randomer though- he's Balons brother and thus has a strong claim to the throne when you take into account his competition is a young woman in a not too progressive, highly patriarchal society and a jittery castrati who had been living in a kennel up until recently. Clearly, the line of succession for the salt throne isn't strictly linear- hence kingsmoot.

Iron Islanders don't really think like most Westerosi- their society revolves around looting and pillaging. So, it's likely that the murder of Balon could be seen as a bold, rightful move rather than a horrible treason by enough of them to get Euron into power.

In any case, it seems Balon had just lost a war (again) and was about as loved as genital warts.

Pilou Asbaek is poorly cast, IMO. He has a really strong accent and is far too young to be Balon's brother.

Wow what an episode! All stories picking up even more pace! Damn it's getting exciting. What a show! I'm loving this season altogether. :D

R.I.P Hodor. :( But on a lighter note it's great to see Ser Friend Zone finally getting a little love.

Absolutely brutal episode. Redeemed ever so slightly by some door holding at the end.

Functional is about the best way I can describe it. But as a show that bills itself as one of the top series around, it really fails to deliver far too often. The deline in the quality of the writing is becoming more and more evident each week also.

Just watching on Sky Atlantic again ... what the hell was the story of showing the young actors mickey with the 2 warts? ...is there a quota every week or something? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,387 ✭✭✭✭DeVore

    Yeah, that seemed really unnecessary...

I know everyone is all "Oh Noooodor" and all but I would rate this a fairly average episode other than that. Its like watching 5-7 webseries back to back these days... Still enjoy it but its not as gripping as before I think.

In a vaguely less traumatising aspect of the show, I was glad to see Sansa call Littlefinger out on throwing her to the Boltons but I feel this may come back to bite her in the ass.

Tyrion once again with some brilliant 1 liners "mother of dragons, breaker of chains...and all that"! "who said anything about him"!
