Have many Irish paid for flights and hotels already? I'm surprised to not hear more of a backlash about that!
The reputation of the Irish for creating a wild atmosphere in Vegas on the week of his fights was also a big part of the draw so it seems Poor from him to have no consideration for fans.

Owen Hart? I'm not a wwe fan, but their entrainment wrestling isn't injury free.

Before he retired stone cold was wrestling knowing that one wrong move would paralyse or kill him.

In fairness Owen Hart fell from the rafters while being lowered into the ring. It's not injury free but that's not exactly a realistic example of the dangers he might face.

I just have one question while we await more info - during that "PM me as well!" ridiculousness yesterday, to those who actually did receive PMs and wrote things like "If that PM is accurate, holy sh!t" - were the PMs telling the same story we're hearing now? Or were they hoaxes?

Rey Mysterio was involved in a match that led to death of opponent directly from in ring activity like last year, wasn't in the big organization could have been in Mexico but still same shenanigans.

It seems like Conor just really didn't want to do the press conference and promotion. This is understandable after Carvalho's death. He was ringside for the Carvalho fight and to come out a couple of week's after and start the PR campaign couldn't have sat easy with him. Conor is all about the razzmatazz and trash talk, and that is just showbiz. But it is also an integral part of his arsenal and it is part of who he is. He couldn't and wouldn't do it this week and that was that. Dana said you have to or you will be pulled - so he said, fine, pull me an he released the tweet and sat back.

There is still plenty of time. It's not as if it's the week before the fight. All Conor has to do is sit it out for a few days and make his point and then agree do the promotions at a time that he feels is more appropriate. This bout is definitely still on. It is not about money and it is most definitely not about Conor fearing Nate (that is just bullshít). It is just about Conor saying that he did not want to do the PR stuff now. Dana said you have to, and Conor said no. No prizes for guessing who will win. Fair fúcks Conor.

Question on Diaz, will he still get big pay day ? Will contract he's signed still be good without conor? I'd hate to see him lose out over this

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 965 ✭✭✭Thelomen Toblackai

I'd say the real reason he doesn't want to do promotions is because his usual schtick of "I am the king, I destroy everyone, I own this place" won't hold it's usual weight with Diaz throwing the last fight in his face every time he speaks.

He probably thought since he was such a huge draw he could just not do it and then fell out with Dana when he was informed otherwise.

He was always going to have to promote the fight though, he knew that when he signed the contract. He was also with Diaz in the post fight press conference anyway, so it would have been nothing new.

One thing signing a multimillion dollar contract but it's a different story though once this stuff comes around, particularly when you think you can just not do it as Conor thought.

It's also nothing like the post fight press conference. Go back to the pre fight press conferences and interviews and see what was said. To do that again with Conor facing the guy who's beaten him and who Conor went back to for a rematch, expected to be his usual mouthy self but open to a lot of digs and a very real possibility Diaz getting to him wouldn't be on Conors "favourite things to do in vegas" list

I definitely thought it was gonna be interesting to hear how Conor would handle Nate now that Nate had some ammunition to fire back at him by way of his win in the cage, but i don't think for a second that Conor was afraid to face that and its naive to think it any way factors into this at all.He would have known this was coming and he could easily have sidestepped Nate for a few fights and nobody would have said a word.

.. you could forgive Diaz seeing as he was on his holidays when he got the call to fight 10 days later.

You know, I think that's all been overstated. Nate being in Cabo partying, lying on a sofa, stomach bug, half camp etc etc. I must have heard that stuff said a million times or more now and I don't believe a word of it. Yeah, I've seen the video of him knocking back *a* Tequila shot but so what McGregor was out the week before shooting Embedded eating steaks at some restaurante. Big deal. Fighters are not supposed to train too hard the week or so before a fight. In fact I seen some trainer condemn Conor for working on those ropes the week before the fight as according to him they would have pushed him much too hard.

After Nate won against Johnson in December we all seen him calling out McGregor from the octagon, saying he had taken everything he had worked for. Then in all the post fight interviews he kept saying he was ready to fight anytime, anywhere. There are interviews from when RDA was rumoured to be pulling out of the planned fight with McGregor where Nate was talking about how much he trains and he says in one of them that even on his worst day he trains for two hours. Nate's (and Nick's) lifestyle is very clean (apart from the ganja). They are both pretty much a vegan also.

So, given all that, I really don't buy into that nonsense about how Nate was all that disadvantaged going into the fight as people claim. Conor was the one who had trained to fight a much different style fighter and had to do a 180. Nate was campaigning for the Conor fight. He was the money fight he claimed. Then when he took it he says he offered to fight at 160 but I don't believe a word of that. When Conor pushed Dana on it at one of the press conferences Nate started laughing, as did Dana, as they both knew it was bull.

As Conor said, if he had agreed to fight at 160, then the fight would have been at 160 but it wasn't and that was down to Nate. He then backtracked and said that Conor stalled and so he had no choice but to ask for 165 but that is bull. I think he, and his camp (sorry, "half camp") knew very well what they were doing by trying to get Conor to fight at as high a weight as they could get knowing full well that he had been training to weigh in at 155. In the end Conor said fcuk it, let him weigh in at 170. A mistake? Perhaps, but either way, Nate Diaz was not the disadvantaged fighter he and his supporters keep making him out to be.

I think Conor took a lot of Nate's shots on purpose in the 2nd round also. Just watched it again there and you can see Conor goading him. I think he thought he Nate beat in that round and could just pick him off. He even manged to grab Nate by the head and knee him the face early in the 2nd. Seemed to me as if he got a little cocky and felt that as Nate's jabs weren't hurting him or zapping him much, that they would continue to not be... he looked shocked more than anything when Nate caught him with those two shots with rocked him. Another thing I hate is how people cite Conor tapping out in that round as being proof positive that his ground game is not up to Nates when it's quite clear that the fight was won long before Conor went to ground. In fact I thought he more than matched Nate in the 1st round in that regard, even though it was only a brief spell that they were grappling.

So anyway yeah. Nate Diaz fat boy partying in Cabo my foot.

I would reckon that he didn't want to go out there and have to do the "I'm going to kill you/I'm going to bury you" talk so soon after watching Joao Carvalho get fatally injured by McGregor's team mate.

Oh give me a break, Conor only had 10 days notice on fighting Nate too.

If Nate wasn't going to be ready for the fight, then he shouldn't have been calling out Conor asking for the damn thing.

See depends how you read it - thats the beauty of the wording.

"I have decided to retire young" ...doesnt have to mean hes retiring right now, just says he will retire young..could be today..could be in 2 years. Easy to just turn it around and say "I always said I have a number and once I reach that I am out of here, on the money I am on I will be out of here when I am young..thanks for the dollars and keep them coming so I can retire". People will have forgotten about the retirement tweet a few minutes after he says he is back talking business with Dana and the Fertittas.

I fully expect him to be on the MSG card still once all the drama settles down. Once that's agreed that he isnt retired before Aldo and Frankie fight at UFC 200 then that fight will still be for the interim title. He will headline MSG vs the winner of that fight and life rolls on for all concerned.

Dana asked almost identical questions re: 'being a diva' in a number of interviews though. Suggests a particular narrative being created and perpetuated. Useful in a situation where Dana knows he can't say it but to have other imply it is incredibly good fortune...

He is/was always going to be asked that because people will assume its down to money and McGregor thinking he is bigger than the UFC. The UFC want McGregor to fight, Dana is not gonna burn any bridges at this point, he's still their golden boy and cash cow regardless of the current situation. Its an inconvenience they didn't expect to happen. They have took a stance and things will move on. I really don't see it being any other way, they already said yesterday the door was open if he called. They are still saying the door is open if he hasn't retired, and if he has then they make other plans. If he really doesn't want to do the media obligations for the fight (for whatever reason..be it Joao related, wanting to train longer and better for Diaz or just cant be arsed..it matters very little really the UFC will still bend if he says he isnt retiring) and the fight isnt going to happen then it all more or less goes away if he says he isnt retiring. They will say the media work has started, Diaz is fighting someone else but they are glad to say Conor is back and is fighting the winner of Aldo vs Frankie and it will be in New York. They will always twist the solution and the reason in a way it does the least damage to both parties.
