I think all those points are redundant because he's not retiring.

That’s pretty much the point I’m making.

He can try to take his ball and go home but by doing this now he doesn’t have many options afterwards that maintains his lifestyle.

Jesus even when people are given straight forward comments they still have conspiracies. Maybe just maybe for once he wanted to focus on his camp. Maybe just maybe he's not scared. He asked for the bloody fight remember? Maybe he wants to get a few weeks of camp in before press. Jesus people love a conspiracy

The idea that any fighter at this level is scared is quite amusing, lets not judge these by people by our own standards here on the internets :D

Good point by Ariel on Off The Ball. How does a fighter who has traveled to 3 continents promoting fights and who travelled to numerous areas in 48hrs in America before 189, go to not wanting to do press at the minute.

Asking what factor may be a blockade now and is it the death of Joao.

McGregor's losing it a bit. Ego went out of control and the Diaz fight and this fiasco brough him crashing back to earth. Doubt he will remain retired.

Going through those promotional tours has probably given him the experience to know it's not helping him out in preparing for the most challenging fight he's gonna have, all the while needing to put things right.

He has done more press than any other fighter on the roster. Maybe he's just sick to the eyeballs of it. My guess is he knows the impact all the media has had on him and he just wants to focus on camp.

I reckon he's pissed at all the media work they put him through, the build up for 189 was insane with flights to Brazil, Europe and then the US. He said as much himself in interviews that the flights, conferences, constant media interviews were draining on him.

But on the other hand Conor knew all this, he knows he has a 12 week camp and for perhaps 10 or 12 days of those 84 days he is going to be on the road. If he feels like that is too much then the contract negotiations are the place to raise it, not after he's signed on the dotted line. If he feels he needs all of his camp to prepare for Diaz then make the camp longer to 16 weeks, it is a massive fight after all and losing it will dent his legacy and pride. But at the end of the day promotional work is part of the gig and thats what he and his manager signed up to.

The whole thing smacks of Conor throwing his toys out of the pram somewhat. Dana has offered him a way back but it won't be a way back with Conor getting to do zero promotion.

Forbes have reported that WWE have already made a massive offer to Conor if he decides to leave the UFC

When does the media stuff get arranged? Seems strange that just a week before it's scheduled to happen that Conor decides to take massive issue with it. Why not say it earlier? Why not say it when the contract was signed? The idea that it was the press stuff and now he pulls the plug on it doesn't make much sense to me.

Just thinking more on this situation.

Given the recent death of Carvalho and Conor being cage side watching it and being engulfed in the aftermath, it may be draining him mentally.

Charlie Ward is a team mate of his who he has probably seen since and probably sees how much of a state he's likely to be in after the fight.

He was probably just thinking to himself and maybe had a chat with management/girlfriend/parents about how trivial a thrash talking press conference is so soon after a tragedy happened on our doorstep.

As brash as he may be, he's certainly not stupid or morally bankrupt as his persona may seem. UFC 200 is a big event but he may just not want that spotlight and everything to be about him right now.

I'm expecting his announcement to mention the risks involved in fighting, Carvalho's death and how it wouldn't be fair to just move so swiftly on after such a tragedy and have all the press be about him rather than addressing the issue that has probably affected him more than we possibly know.

Again, pure speculation but I think it's the main - if not THE - issue that's holding him back a little here.

Is there much talk in America or elsewhere about Carvalho's death?

Haven't seen it mentioned in any interviews relating to this debacle so far.

That's the only understandable reason for Conor not being arsed doing media work at the moment.

Or he realises to win the fight he needs to focus on training and doesn't want to fly across the world for two weeks when he's one week into camp.

It never bothered him before when he had to do promotion mid camp,i just think like the poster said above this is almost entirely to do with Carvalho's death.

He would not want to be seen just a week after Carvalho's death in vegas and wherever putting on his usual bravado, which he is required to do to sell the fight,it would be a bad look and i think the UFC should have given a bit of slack here with such an unprecedented situation of Conor being in attendance so close to a man dying in the very sport he is involved in.

Hes never had a ufc camp coming off a loss before either, especially not after one where lack of preparedness was such a big factor in the defeat

also whats the deal with this announcement? suspense is killing me

Tough ****e, it's part of his job.
    End of story.

I will probably get slated here but is this just a case of McGregor winning a few fights in the UFC been hyped to the 90s making a fast buck based on this hype and getting out when his millions are made realizing that he is not as good as the hype makes him out to be and he would more then likely lose against Diaz again and a rematch with Also and the bandwagon would lose interest. Like what has he actually achieved to become so famous. He knows how to talk the talk but one lethal punch knocked Aldo out. If it went eh full distance or longer then it was he probably would have lost against him. He fought a bunch of nobodys to get to fight Aldo apart from Mendez who could easily have beaten him on the ground

So he beat all comers to become the UFC Featherweight champion and he's a fraud that fluked by? Not buying it.

Yeah I know you're not, just mean he's totally in the wrong if that's his reason.

Promoting is just as big a part of the job as fighting.

Balls in his court, be interesting to see what he says. He doesn't usually stay quiet for long.

Conor does like to keep people waiting so if he does make any announcement its likely to come long long after you have been expecting it.

If he just wants a fast buck, why leave the $10/12m+ on the table by not fighting Diaz and Aldo. Because even if he lost to Diaz, he's still pulling a million plus PPV buys by rematching Aldo.

Oh yeah, Aldo lost the first striking exchange and ended up KO'd but if it went longer he 'probably' would of won.
Mendes could of easily beat him on the ground? He had two rounds to do it, if it would be easy he should got it done. He didn't and ended up turtled up waiting for the ref to stop it.

And then the he fought nobodies to get his shot.
Did Mendes (twice), Lamas, Korean Zombie, Hominick and Florian all have better wins than McGregor before they got a title shot against Aldo?
