You would still need to wash the car unless you have some nano type protection already on. It is the one i have as ph neutral is the way to go. It wont strip the protrction if any.

Ambush is safe to waxes and sealants regardless of whether they're nano or nono :D

Great stuff lads thanks Curran and YB,I'm sure detailing shed might have what I need.

What would be good to use with a orange pad?

Chemical Guys V32 for heavy compounding followed by V36 for jewelling.

Thanks for the reply Metz ordered car pro fixer and a 5.5 orange hex pad from detailing shed already.

If that doesn't help my paintwork I'll go your route.

I'm only going on my own experience. I haven't used CarPro Fixer but if Curran recommends it then you're onto a winner.

I used Fixer on VAG paint and it did the job perfectly for me.

Guys where's the best place to get a snow foam lance? One came with the Nilfisk washer I have but the foam won't really cling.

Depends on if you are going to collect it yourself or get it delivered.

Walk in store there or get it delivered ^^^^

    Or
Same applies with D&D Detailing in Cork

Picked up a few bits from Detailing Shed including some CQuartz that I was hoping to get around to, but as soon as I finished washing we had bloody hailstones. The exhaust tips are already developing a small stain after only 500km, is there a sealant I could use to protect chrome exhaust tips? Perhaps I could apply the CQuartz to them as well, or would they get too hot?

Did you just get the cquk or did you get Dlux for the wheels as well?
I would opt for Dlux for the tips as it is designed to take heat.

I am unsure if Cquk could be used. Can't see why not.

CQuartz can be used, but it wont be quite as effective as the DLUX! ;)

That attachment would not be considered a snow foam lance. At best it will blow bubbles! :P

Guys just to say I was a bit baffled by my own desire to spend a relatively high amount on wheel brushes but the Wheel Woolies are truly brilliant. I've never seen proper suds develop when cleaning wheels but the biggest of the brushes agitates the wheel cleaner in such a way that the cleaner actually lasted on the wheel and foamed. Would definitely recommend. :)

You could totally negate the need for wheel brushes if you removed the wheels and did a proper detail on them ;)

Ah, I remember the days in my 20s when I'd little to be doing and I regularly did stuff like that. :P

Is there a difference in them and the ones on ebay for €20 that look the same ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

At that price, the Ebay one is likely to be a poor version. If you pay a bit more, they can still be very hit and miss - if you are lucky you might get one of the decent ones.

Buying from a reputable company means that you know for sure you are buying a quality item, and if anything were to go wrong, you've something to fall back on, with regard to getting a replacement quickly and hassle free.

This one is €31 with free P&P and 99% positive feedback, worth a punt me thinks :)

The old phrase "buy cheap, buy twice" applies enormously to detailing products due to their contact with chemicals and what they are put through. Pay a higher price from a reputable supplier and you'll be guaranteed to have a product that will last and will be stood behind by the supplier.

Notice you have a few different fitments Curran, Any idea if any of them fit a VAX Power Washer? Argos have some great deals on 2kw+ washers at the minute

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

From previous experience its the Lavor fitting, but if you arent sure when you pair them up with the picture, fire me an email with a picture and I can verify! ;)

I bought one of those exact ones as a backup.
Whie they appear to work fine and do the job at hand. The build quality is inferior to the one I pointed to.
    I used it twixe
Fluished it out and only use the proper one all the time.

    Yes.
I have a VAX washer as well and Curran is correct. It is a Lavor fitting

I picked up a foam lance from amazon. Haven't actually used it, but it looks identical to the one that I had before from detailing shed (not sure of the brand, think it's changed since? I think mine was branded orchard auto care?).

I found that one seized up fairly swiftly (after about 2 months) and I hadn't the patience for do replacing gauzes or such.

I used the detergent bottle that comes with the pressure washer for a while too. it creates more of a watery soap than a foam, but I was hesitant to splash out on a high end lance again. if the amazon one I have now dies on me I just think I'll use the detergent bottle again.

I think the amazon one was about 25 or 30. Detailers United or some name like that. could be sh*te but time will tell.

20 quid or 60 quid...if they aren't cared for, they'll go to sh**e after a few washes. They need to be flushed out with just water after use. Otherwise the snowfoam solution becomes caked on the gauze...which is the most important part for generating the thick foam.

Does anyone know any pressure washers with suction capabilities besides the Karcher models ?

Yeah I always made sure to wash my one out after use. I guess it just wasn't meant to be, for me.
That said I'm curious to see how the cheapo on performs. hopefully find out early next week. :)

If you are using water from a water butt or tank you can use a submersible pump. Just a thought.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Lidl were doing a submersible pumps the other day!

Was talking to a friend the other day about how I wash my car mentioned to him about using snowfoam on the car.

Showed him the cheap lance I use he asked me if he could use one of those small 5lt sprayers to spray the snowfoam on his car.

Don't think it would work personally could be wrong though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

No, it wouldnt work - though it could be used if applying a pre-wash, if you planned on doing a decontamination for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

It is possible to use some snowfoams with a pump sprayer but you have to use 200:1 compared to a normal foam lance which is 400:1 and it's a lot more laborious. Even thinking about it is making me tired :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Gwan outra that - ye're well used to it! :D :P

I'm probably tempting fate massively here but in 5 years of using snow foam, I haven't once cleaned the bottle or lance :o
