Cork footballers and hurlers won't have home games in Páirc Uí Chaoímh for any of the big games until the stadium is reopened. Goodness knows when that will be. It's hard to believe that Cork footballers and hurlers are BOTH so far off pace but I can't see (much as I hate to say it) either of them featuring in an All-Ireland Final for many years to come (I hope I'm wrong).

Something is not right. Can anybody explain? Hard to know what's what anymore or to know what to think, when we were told in 2009 that Frank Murphy was stepping down but it would take two years to select his successor and it would therefore not happen until 2011. It's now 2016! Can anybody explain?

Hence the inverted commas.Ok so what is the overall method of play or tactic.from that I take we operate a three man midfield or is it four if you include deane or is it 5 if you include sean kiely.plus you have brian driscoll and tom clancy soloing foward ,not alot of backs hanging around is there and not alot of fowards either.

Couldn't tell you what the plan if any is at this stage. Certainly when available Kelleher will play 14 and you are probably right we will pick a midfielder like Kiely or deane at wing forward. I hope to god alan o connor is back and feel with Maguire it could be a good partnership especially with price able to actually kick the ball accurately and with distance.
I have no excuse for today however when you look at - Clancy, galvin, donncha, oconnor, Kelly, loughrey, dorman, and a few more we might improve defensively a bit at least?

The hurlers saved the CB's arse yesterday. The both teams playing in the second division surely would of given the clubs the balls to stand up to them.

Hoggy and lehane stood up yesterday when needed. 10 min to go it looked like Galway were going to pull away. We just can not deal with a big Center forward. Ryan from SARS was unlucky not to be given another chance S Mc D panics when marking a big man he last 5 min on calannan last week and he was distroyed. Canning the same yesterday.

If it hasn't happened already I don't think a Cork hurling loss yesterday would have been a catalyst. The Cork clubs and gaa members have lost their mojo. Rebels in name now only.

    Completely unfounded

I was at tipp game and seen it with my own eyes he was more interested in getting behind calannan instead of trying to win the ball he gave chalannan free rain to win position and was taken off him within 5 min. Sorry ment Ryan Middleton

Assume the senior club hurlers on that squad are there to train with the squad as they all played club hurling last year. Or have the rules changed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Apparently some big profile names being dropped from the senior hurling panel. My guess- two Bishopstown lads, Paudi Sul and Moylan.

Rule changed for Cork and Kilkenny this year. You can pick players from senior clubs as long as they are under 25 and haven't played senior championship for their county yet.

    Heard Cian Mac a casualty
Would presume Paidi has a safety net !

Cian mac didn't see any game time, was injured I think.

Pa Cronin didn't seem to be in the plans really judging by how he was used so wouldn't be overly surprised at that if true

According to PROC it's Shane O'Neill, Pa Cronin, Cian Mc, Stephen Moylan and Paudi Sullivan who've been cut. Michael Moynihan of the examiner tweeted that he's expecting a panel to be announced tonight.

Hard to know what to make of it if that turns out to be true. We'll be relying on younger lads who haven't been given a whole lot of game time in the league which seems like bad planning. Moylan and Paudie have been passengers for a while. O'Neill seems to be on the slide but I wonder does him being gone have any thing to do with work commitments. Cian Mc hasn't really had a go during the league. It'll be interesting to see the full panel tonight.

I think TTM was Kieran Kingston in disguise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 580 ✭✭✭HillFarmer

Surprised if Cronin and O'Neil are gone, if it work commitments fair enough but if its forced I'm not sure it was the right decision.

Cronin in particular , rangy half forward that can take a score isn't easy to find.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Pa Cronin is hardly known for his scoring.

He didn't do too bad in the Munster championship v Waterford, everything he touched went over.

Agreed but he was virtually unmarked in that game. Besides that, that game was very much the exception rather than the rule with him in recent times. Take that game away you have 2/3 years of consistently average/quite poor performances. I would still probably have him on the panel and he definitely doesn't deserve the vitriol he gets, but I'm not sure he can have too many complaints really about getting dropped.

best of luck to all involved.

Re Cork minor Hurlers, losers tonight play Tipp. Losers of that play losers of Limerick/Clare.

Imagine if Cork had 3 games to qualify for a Munster semi final. You'd have a fair idea of your best team. Winning tonight is arguably a poison chalice. I know you can't send a team out to lose but.........

In any event best of luck to all involved for the entire campaign!

Waterford scored 1-2 before Corks first point. Waterford led 1-6 to 0-8 at HT but Cork with the wind have taken the lead, 0-13 to 1-6 after 6 min of 2nd half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,355 ✭✭✭zetecescort

0-16 to 1-8 after 26 min. come on lads, see it out

Very happy with that, 0-17 is good scoring.

Great result by the minors. Only one player from last year makes it even more impressive.

I wasn't at the game. Cork got off to a very bad start but responded brilliantly and were deserving winners.

I actually agree with you, a good run in Div 2 might gain them some confidence and momentum next Year. They almost seemed to be going through the motions in Div 1 this season and lacked the confidence to beat the top teams. That Mayo win was early Days in the league and Mayo were missing key players on the Day, l wouldn't read much into it personally.

Yes, confidence disappeared against Kerry early on but that was in large part down to wastefulness on the ball. Also, when you have natural full-forwards like Colm O'Neill and Brian Hurley inside why not use the long-ball?

Anyway, a spell in Division 2 might be no bad thing. I agree with posters above who point out the potential that is in this Cork team but the style of football must evolve. Also, with Dorman and other injured players returning I think the team could take a big scalp in the summer if there's improvement.
