Dude deserves it. Ten years of fighting everyone they put in front of him, the best of two weight classes and being **** on money wise. He deserves a few paydays.

If you told me at any point from 2007-2015 that Nate Diaz* would be headlining one of the biggest mma events of all time I would have had you committed :P

*I do like Nate, and think he defo deserves some good money, but would anyone honestly have put Nate in the main event of their ufc200 dream card?

Lots of hate for conor online amazing how people turn if you lose. You have to give credit to conor for asking to fight Diaz again. It takes balls to go back to 170lbs where's he's at a disadvantage.I do think he should give up the belt and stupid of aldo to accept a interm belt fight, its not his belt so it should be worthless to him. What good is that belt to anyone when the champion is active in a different weight on the same night?

Delighted to see nate make money he deserves more than most always fought top 10

Am I right in saying that the TUF finale will be on the night before? I'd expect a couple of Irish fighters on that card.

Diaz will win . This is a really silly fight to take for Connor especially leaving Diaz at 170.
I can't see him winning this

Why would you expect that? Are there any on this season?
If you mean current signed fighters, I'd be surprised tbh.

Exactly, sure Mendes probably won 9 of the 10 mins of their fight but i dont see people pointing this out.

If Mcgregor jumped off the Cliffs of Moher you would see a stampede of beards and suits heading towards Clare to follow him.

Full disclosure on the following post, I am a total McGregor fanboy, I think he is hilarious out of the ring and amazing to watch fight, and have only started to follow mma in general following his rise to fame, and I thought that the Mendez fight was the best to watch, we saw Conor get the snot beat out of him for nearly two full rounds and still be able to land good shots, two totally different styles, with each fighter trying to control the fight, I would have loved to watch Mendez and McGregor go again with Mendez having a full camp, yet people seem content to see him fight Diaz again, tbh It wasn't a great fight, McGregor was way slower and didn't seem to flow like he did at 145.

The Mendez and McGregor fight was the closest that I have seen ( could be totally wrong on that though ) and that what was interesting to watch!!!

    yes & why?

Seery is fighting in May which only leaves Ais, Paddy & Stormin Norman(if you count him?). @ 194 no other Irish across 3 events (PPV, TUF & FN), Gunni on ppv & Artem in TUF finale. @ 196 no other Irish involved.

Unless there are some taking part in TUF(Ive not heard anything about lineups) I wouldn't be getting your hopes up

Lot of talk about what Conor might change up in the rematch but surely Diaz might have an alternate plan himself. He is sure to not want to take too much damage in rd1 again. I know hes not known for changing his style but maybe he might try putting more into his punches a little more frequently, try to grab and clinch for an opening etc. He may have a different game plan himself as he didnt know McGregor would fall in a hole like he did.
Also how much better can he be from the first fight % wise seeing he came in at short notice the last time?

What can Conor realistically change up in 4 months?

Can get get his ground game to a level he can even survive on the mat against Diaz? Nope.
Can he get in enough cardio to reach close enough to Diaz level? He's never gone further than 3 rounds. Doubtful.
Can he out box Diaz? Doubtful.
Can he get a flash KO like Aldo? Yes.

It's the same as the first fight - 1st Round KO or his chances of winning drop dramatically.

In my opinion he has the cardio if he changes approach. Don't load up on every punch and fight smarter. I'm not saying he will win but I don't think it's as black and white as you put it. There are any number of factors going on in there.

I don't think Conor can look worse next time out, even though Nate will be more ready too. I just think Conor has more room for improvement than Nate and will have better energy and a better game plan for a bigger guy.

Look at the video below before Conor headed out to the US and RDA was still the opponent. He looks and sounds in peak shape, ready to rock.

Then RDA breaks his foot, and there's a scramble to get a new opponent 11 days out for the event. Two news conferences are hastily arranged to promote the event, along with loads of other interviews. Conor doesn't need to cut weight for the fight.

Hardly the ideal build up to a fight for Conor, and I got the impression he took Nate too lightly. Seemed to be missing the craziness and focus we've seen in fight week. Rubbing his belly at the weigh in like a butchers dog, too comfortable.

I'm a fan of Conor and all of the above are excuses, but I believe some are valid to show that it was far from an ideal build up.

I know it was far from ideal for Nate too, but having the fight at 170 gave him some advantages because of his size.

Conor has 4 months now to get his cardio right for 170 and work on a game plan for a taller opponent with longer reach. I've faith that Conor knows what he's doing, that it isn't his ego gone crazy looking for the rematch and that he really believes he messed up the last fight and can beat Nate.

I reckon he still goes for the stoppage again this time round. Can't see him trying to eek out a 5 round win, not in his nature and he may not be able to last 5 rounds with Diaz anyway.

    Nothing but excuses.

Nate was drinking on holiday a week before he got the call and still took him out easily. Conor wins the same way he wins against everyone - with his only weapon, the left. If he doesn't connect flush early he will become a panic wrestler yet again.

And some points on why I think the rematch might be different too in fairness, no?

All will be answered on July 9th anyway. If Diaz wins again, then there's absolutely no excuses.

Everything in the meantime are just opinions, and like belly buttons everyone has one but they don't hold much water :)

    UFC wanted it at 170...

Someone else on here made a good point that doing it at 170 leaves options at 155 if Conor loses again. Conor likes his options as we well know.

Because he had Conor wobbled so bad that the KO was inevitable, so Conor panic wrestled as he puts it himself, then got choked out within seconds.

Watch the fight again. He is bollocksed. I think a fit Conor takes that punch no problem. When you're tired and get hit it's a lot worse than if you're fit.

Mendes got the head leathered off him on the feet. Being in someones guard and connecting with 1 1/2 elbows isn't exactly battering him. This is one thing I hate about UFC and it's that stupid bloody cage. It benefits wrestlers and can ruin fights. watch your man Khabib, unbeaten, and it's like watch grass grow. Bring in a ring!! :D

I love the technical aspect of Ju Jitsu, but I hate this wrestling crap where it's just dry humping someone up against the cage or lying there in someones guard not knowing what to do next. It's boring!

At least Conor will kick and punch the head off fighters. I'd love to see him in K1.

    UFC wanted it at 170...

Don't believe a word of it. Why would UFC want it at 170? It doesn't make any sense for the UFC to have 2 155ers fighting at 170. If Conor wanted 155 he was getting 155.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,459 ✭✭✭califano

Just thinking about it. If it was all about money why not lose some divisions and just make catch weight fights all the time. In fact why dont they do this, lots of options for a lot of fights this way.

    It's a curious contradiction alright.

I'm sure when Conor is asked, he will say "I wanted the rematch at 170", so don't know why Kavanagh is saying the UFC insisted.

Even if having it 155 or 170 isn't going to have a huge effect on the outcome. It's makes more financial sense to have it at 170 from their point of view. This fight sells silly numbers no matter what weight they have it at.
Conor has already lost at 170. A loss here doesn't really hurt his "value" any further. It keeps his options open at 155 down the line. The 155 title run is still an option in future (after the 145 unification :o). If he losses to Nate at 155, he has one fight at 145 and nowhere to go from there.

To clarify: You and I, and most people here grasp that this is two 155ers fighting at 170. But to the casual fan, this is 15lbs heavier and a whole new division.

    Hmmm I would say...

Can get get his ground game to a level he can even survive on the mat against Diaz? Probably already can survive although he's not as good as Nate on the ground.

Can he get in enough cardio to reach close enough to Diaz level? He's never gone further than 3 rounds. Easily done in 3 months. Just takes some work

Can he out box Diaz? He did in round 1. Although he needs to keep his hands up that's for sure

Can he get a flash KO like Aldo? No chance. Nate has only be knocked out once by a head kick.

While Im looking forward to the fight, I think it's actually ridiculous that there is an interim title fight on the same card as the champion is fighting.

    Bit of a joke really.
