lol I run my Solo2 with OpenVix and know it fairly well now, these last few posts are just gibberish to me though. I tried the Blackhole image once but hit a snag and reverted to type.

So, should I stick with OpenVix just or is it worth giving one of these other operators a go? I'm well curious and willing to learn more but is it worth the bother, as in there being any tangible benefits for the 'hassle'?

I just don't want to mess about for a baby carrot lol

I'm not trying to be smart but it really depends on what your requirements are, each have their own benefits (and costs), there's a handy chart for the features for each here http://vuplus.com/sub/sub0113.php

Personally, I have the Solo2 and Ultimo, I always use the Solo2 and I find it a great box, I'd say it's better than the Ultimo but it only has 2 tuners and takes 2.5" drives so that might be a deal breaker for you.

Cheers, the 2.5" HDD wouldnt be a problem.
I want to use it as my main tv box and also have kodi running on it so I can get shot of my HTPC too noisy now doing my head-in, getting cranky as i get older :D
I was thinking of the Duo2 because it has 4 tuners, the Solo2 has 2. 4 tuners just allows multiple recordings that is the benefit isnt it?

How many sats are you connecting to? If it's just 1 the 2 tuners will allow you record on multiple muxs

I'd be leaning towards the Duo2, I don't know much about Kodi but I understand it likes to have loads of memory, the Duo2 has more memory and a bigger flash so should suit your needs.

Im only going to have 1 sat, a motorized one so i can change the position I need to pick up the Portuguese stations from time to time for herself.

Does the Kodi/XMBC work well on them? Can they be used as Media Centers as well connect your NAS device and browse your movies etc

The Duo2 will do everything thats you need hav,nt tryed nas so can,t comment but theres plenty of Duo2 owners on boards that have posted some great info and howto setup Guides .

Kodi yea you,d be ok with Duo2 have a look at some of Robijay images on linuxsat some fantastic work done by him .

Or you can build your own if you get the said box just post and we will help you get setup if needed [with boards rules as don,t want to push our luck on the kodi side of things as mods have been more than fair so far .

And theres a live tv addon for kodi where you can watch your free to air channels and saorview channels within kodi [like wetek] tryed this when the blackhole release this before xmas as it was only beta version going to have another look over the weekend /

On 15.2 & 16 see how things run now as with all the major upgrades image teams have been doing over the last couple of weeks .

I've my Solo2 connecting to my server with plex and also straight playing/recording to the server shares, no problems at all. I have it connected via a powerline adapter so I don't know if it'll work over wifi or not.

Thanks for info clareman always willing to learn .

Still have me Solo2 was going to sell to offset the cost of 4k but just can,t part with it glad i did,nt now with all the new images addons and more to come still in beta [testing ]mode can say much but things are only going to get better for the satellite community .

Just to say what i mean about testing is nothing to do with dodgy tv or anything to do with use of illegal use of a payed tv service can,t and won,t help on anything like that as i don,t use .

I,am talk about software for vu+ boxes getting better .

The solo2 seems to have the most active community out of all of the set top boxs and in fairness it does run kodi seamless when it's set up properly.

I have been trying a new image every night to see what they have to offer but I always end up back at hyperion 5.1 I just can't fault it apart from not having a decent version of kodi it never ever crashes on me and media player is fast and built in auto timer seems to work best out of all images.

I think they might have been waiting for the official Vu+ which has justed been Released by them then test add to feeds for testing i say for beta testers first as always

Then if there happy with feedback then images will go live but it will be worth the wait in the long run .

Can,t see pkteam havin much trouble even doe there openpli base images as this from Vu+ just teams have add to feeds if everything is stable .

Would stick a post on there forum find out once and for all .

Its getting hard to keep up with all these updates.
Vix 4.0 is barely out 2 weeks and they are already talking about 4.1 !

I don't think I've upgrade to a x.0 of any release yet, it's usually just the base system and it takes a few releases to get all the addons to work

Great fun when it's just you, when you've a wife and 3 year old who want to watch TV it's not really worth the hassle t update anymore.
