I had anaemia years ago so I'm fairly sure its not that, I eat plenty of iron rich foods - of course I won't know the definite answer to that util the bloods come back - a week too late  I believe you're not supposed to take iron supplements unless instructed by a GP so I'd better wait. I'll definitely ask for that test! thanks, again :)

Have a couple of pints of Guinness over the weekend as a precaution :)

BTW.....no reason standard blood test should take more than a week to come back so put the boot in with the Doc!

S¨¨te, sorry you're not feeling 100% FD. It sounds like it's not just the HR monitor that's telling you that you're not 100%, if you're feeling tired and getting plenty of sleep then there's no harm in getting the doc to do a full NCT and getting to the root of it. Hope you get to knock it on the head soon :)

Sorry to hear AM, hope to see you on the mend soon. Make sure and ask for B12 as well as it's not part of the normal test. One question I'd ask is about diet as you've increased your training load and the runs have got longer, have you increased your carb intake and calorie intake to match?

    :D:D:D

On a serious note, why didn't the doc do the ECG and bloods there and then?? Is she/he tryin' to fleece you outta another few quid?? Wouldn't happen to a westerner, we get the doc to to finish our crosswords, check our toenails ect :)

I do however think there is a possibility you could be overthinking exasperating a bit of an elevated HR. It's like you're fixated on your HR, and if it's a bit off you start to stress a bit more making it worse...
    Here's what I would do....
Ditch all technology for a bit. No Garmin, no HR monitor, no stopwatch ect.. Some casual easy running in different locations, maybe even a gentle trail run for a change... Get a bit of fun back, no targets, nothing. As everyone said already, the bulk of your work is done :)
If you feel like you're having a bad run, don't stress. Actually play that in your mind, myself, tang, and TbL laughing, telling you to chill out :)

I'm far from experienced myself, but I know what stressing out can do to your running.
Take from that what you will....

As we say here, "You'll be grand..."

Take from that what you will

PS Have you 22 miles planned this weekend?? I know you are on a plan, but imo no need for 22 miles at this stage... Just my 2cents :)

weirdly, I dreamt last night that someone else posted that question in a wagging finger type way 'did I not tell you before you're not eating enough' I have tried in the last week to eat more,, my appetite's not great though, compared to tang who's eating anything that's stands in his way for 2 seconds - it hasn't affected me up to this though but I would agree, it could now be catching up on me. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, (porridge/salad with protein or sambo/stir fry or pasta with meat & veg) fruit, nuts, yoghurt, bread, chocolate(!) I'll keep an eye on it though E and thanks.

:D:D thanks Marty, I needed that laugh! In fairness I think the staff that do those tests weren't there yesterday but I'd have had to pay extra even if the were there - you're right, I should just move to Galway where the grass is greener :D You're not the only one who's suggested ditching the technology so......

I'm outta here for the rest of the weekend, no boards, no thoughts of running or marathons, no 22 miler  and I promise not to throw the baby out with the bath water.. thanks guys.

p.s. eagle eye dubgal I was in bed early :pac:

Just catching up here, sorry to hear of the recent difficulties.

Can't add much to what's been said by others. Personally I have often struggled a bit three to four weeks out from the marathon date for some reason, I remember having some particularly difficult easy runs around this time, getting stitches etc. Good news that the doc didn't find anything obvious. If there's a loss of appetite that could explain some of it. Anyway hope things start feeling better for you - work is more or less done and you're in great shape based on your HM. All the best over the final weeks.

How are you feeling now after the weekend, FD? I guess if you have to take some time off a bank holiday week is the time to do it, plenty of distraction ...

You probably know anyway but the heart rate flutter can be a symptom of anaemia .. or of asthma. Know this from my internet searching a year ago ... Good that you'll get the ECG results before too long as it will rule out scarier explanations.

Thanks M, I didn't know it was a symptom of anemia until I googled it after the umpteenth person mentioned iron deficiency....I took the plunge & picked up an iron & b vit supplement - I feel marginally better today & the RHR is down a bit too. Have also eaten my body weight in spinich :p I thought I knew what anaemia felt like having had it before but perhaps the memory is not the best after all.....

The goal for this week is 30 miles, even at a slow plod - will see how I get on with that and I won't be bringing my watch or hrm for a few days just run & enjoy it :)

That's a lovely plan, I am jealous of the 30 miles ;). Make sure you keep eating lots too.

If taking the RHR is adding to the pressure maybe add that to the technology ban until things settle down?

An hour before midnight is worth two afterward.....*wags finger* :D

When will the blood test results be back? I don't practice what I preach - I self-medicate on iron but not continuously, I am prone to anaemia - unless you're absolutely sure, maybe listen to Uncle FBOT?

The b vit problem is easily solved: get on the nutritional yeast, any health food shop worth their salt will have it.

Have a look at the different sorts of food-derived iron, some are absorbed by the body more easily than others. There was a discussion on here within the last year about this IIRC.

How you feeling today, especially after saying ciao to the vino and chocolate ;) Actually, pretty sure both of these have vital nutrients, especially if you were on the red and dark choc versions....?

the blood tests haven't been done yet! everything is booked for Wednesday morning - I checked with 3 pharmacists before I bought the supplement - they told me they wouldn't be allowed sell it if it was dangerous. I do feel a little better, the palpitations are nearly completely gone, whether that's from a weekend on the couch watching chick flicks or the Iron I don't know. The wine I won't be trying again, it didn't help! Will see how the run goes this evening - minus technology - I guess you've won there

So I have been resisting adding to the wise advice you have already received here and I am very optimistic that you will be back in action soon.

You reminded me of my own slump in marathon training last year so if it makes you feel any better, at this stage I had just come off a 16 mile and 22 mile week... Then DNF-ed at the HM... And hadn't done near as many of the midweek sessions as you have...

But got lots of good advice from people like... Guess who! :D

    eh HELLO, I was busy!!

    Ok confession time...

Monday 21st March 5.1 miles - zero stats...

So with the myriad of advice from all the wonderful boardsies I set off for my run this evening naked, yes, that is correct and I LOVED IT :pac:

Sooo liberating, such FREEDOM, not to be constrained by modern things like clothes oops! I mean watches and heart rate monitors :p

It was a bit odd at first, I bumped into Mulberry and we ran together for about half a mile so we were chatting away (thanks R!) then we parted ways and I headed off up the town, a route I knew was just over 5 miles (from the watch days...) Occasionally I spoke to myself, out loud, you know to make sure I could pass the conversation test. Turns out the bypass isn't so awful when you're looking around you, noticed a beautiful field with some fab trees that I'd never seen before.

Now Dubgal, this does not mean I'm going to run forever more sans watch - ok? I will do it another few times for sure. I do have another confession to make though - I did look at the clock before I left the house, and again when I got home, and I manually added the run, with the mileage and the length of time it took me into strava and erm, well now I have stats :D - 5.1 miles @ 11:22!

I feel good, my heart isn't going bananas, I'm not stressing over figures - I'll do another 2 of these 5 milers tomorrow and Wednesday and then see how I am.

Err... looking at MY garmin we did 9:XX pace for that mile FD! And it was a mile exactly from where I met you til I left you. Well maybe .96 miles. Maybe you did more than 5.1 miles? Meaning you did them quicker than 11.22??!?!?!?

And the pace was clearly no bother to you when I was running with you anyway - the chat was free flowing!

Yeah I knew we were going faster than I had been up to that point - that's why I said I didn't want to know what your watch was registering! I mapped that route on strava earlier, turns out its 5.6 miles... will be interesting to see if I can slow down a little this evening. Maybe I need to talk more to myself.. :pac: thanks again for the company!
