Bad as it is to have to pull the plug on the greatest trip ever, at least you have a definitive answer as to why. Would be worse if it was some unknown niggle that you couldn't pinpoint to cause...

It sucks that you will not be there though, but as was said previously, there'll be plenty more opportunities for races/beers...

Light a candle for the rest of us on the 10th, and we'll drink copious amounts of alcoholic beverages in your honour :):)

Just catching up on your log now. Really sorry to hear you won't make Rotterdam after all your work. You'll be more than ready for Dublin - health under control & a second go at the 'Meno plan'. Best of luck over the next while. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Thanks folks, the attitude and mood are not so great this morning, just back from the GP to sort follow ups etc and have been told absolutely no running whatsoever for a month until they see if the meds are working etc.

    Adiós till then!

Try to stay positive, from a training perspective you'd be tapering now and recovering after Rotterdam for the next month anyway, so the fitness will be there from the marathon training. You'll be in tip top shape and raring to go :)

Sorry to see you'll be missing Rotterdam FD. Your health is paramount though - get well soon and hopefully we'll see you putting in some more super training in the not too distant future.

Ah, can't 'like' that last post FD :( It is true though, 'your health is your wealth'. Do as you're told and GWS...

Ah no, I'm gutted for you that you're missing Rotterdam but at least you have an answer for the issues you were having. and that's the most important thing.

This will only make you stronger as you will be more determined to get back to full strength. Enjoy the down time and don't be stressing about not running. You will be back to where you are in no time.

Sorry to hear your news FD, I was reading your posts last night and in awe at how positive you are. There'll be tough days, like today, but I've no doubt that you'll be able to dig deep, find the silver lining and come back stronger and more determined than ever :)

    Ah, dammit.

Make sure you get some enjoyment out of that month!

Gutted for you, FD. However, with a clear diagnosis you can hopefully get things sorted and back on track in no time. All is not lost as this training cycle will stand you in great stead for the next one......you had a great cycle only downside is not actually being able to do the marathon at the end of it. Ease back into it when you can and in the meantime, look after yourself and KEEP THE FAITH!!!

FD, I'm really sorry, this is a real spanner in the works. :( You're doing the right thing though and it will stand you in good stead when you get back running and training. In the meantime, I'll miss running into you around the Phoenix Park on a weekend!

Crap FD. So sorry to read your news. Best of luck with the treatment and thank you for all your help x

Just catching up here. Very sorry to hear your news.

Having been in a similar place, I know what it's like. Lots of frustration.

Listen to medical advice though and you'll get through this hump. But stay off google!

    Now...ever tried golf!

Jaysus AM - just catching up. So sorry to hear your news. You have made a great start in acting quickly and getting a diagnosis. Good to hear that you will be still getting some running in which will help to temper your experience.

Thanks guys, your well wishes are much appreciated - gives me something to read from my sick bed :pac:

No running Denis, zero running - when she told me that yesterday I was devastated however, after one day on the meds which leave me feeling exhausted and ill and with a permanent headache I'm kinda glad I don't have to run...

+1 on the catching up - really sorry to hear about Rotterdam! The very best of luck with recovery. I really hope things will come together for you for DCM16. I'll join AQuinn in the cheerleading squad (as I have some strawberry-debt! :)).

Dragged myself out of my bed, two days wallowing is enough already, and headed Southside for Cabinteely's first birthday party - I ran the first one this time last year not knowing meno or marthastew, what a difference a year makes! Volunteered, had some (lots.. ) of cake & caught up with MurphD - hope you enjoyed our lovely hills D, the cake and the extra special cheering :)

Something I wanted to ask.... While you are out of action running wise, are you allowed to continue strength/flexibility work.. Maybe some routines like that or yoga sessions could give you some focus temporarily ☺

I'm saying this to you but deep down I'm really telling myself I need to do similar 😂

I certainly did enjoy the Cabinteely experience. Possibly the friendliest parkrun yet (apart from St Anne's of course). Tough course - probably not far off being lapped myself! Great volunteers, great cake!

I can probably do yoga M, and as soon as I have energy of any type I'll get straight on to that  I bad notions of walking miles with the dog too :( #so****ingtired

Oh wow, was catching up on your log, thinking the race report from Rotterdam would be amazing and eeck major spanner in the works! :(

So sorry to hear about your tyroid but like everyone already said mind yourself, do as the doctor tells you and when you are able to get back to running, the training base will still be there.

    Only catching up here now.....

Sorry to hear you're out of the race on Sunday. Enjoy the weekend and come back stronger for Dublin when you're 100%.

    Best of luck.

really sorry AM to read back over the last few pages and find what's been happening with you , haven't been following feckall over the last month but came here looking tonight to read how your Rotterdam panned out. What ososlo said about page 154 summed it all up for me. You have a fantastic attitude and energy and you ARE going to use it to bounce back

Time for a bit of an update, such as it is..

    Saturday 16th April 2016

    20 min swim
    20 mins gym bike
    15 mins gym cross trainer
    2 mile walk

Sooo, starting to feel a bit more energetic in the last week. The first two weeks on the meds were pretty awful it has to be said, I was very sick & exhausted, with bad headaches and zero appetite along with other horrible things that saw me in A&E on Easter Sunday, nice.. I had some more tests and some feedback that was not great but I was determined to stay positive and follow the medical advice. I cut back in work and all my extra curricular activities and concentrated on resting, sleeping in, trying to eat well and ditching the stress. Once the side effects started to lesson I dug out my old Forerunner 15 and started counting my steps & watching my calorie intake - apparently one of the side effects of the tablets are weight gain if you don’t watch yourself.

As ill as I felt I still found it really hard to come to terms with not being able to run Rotterdam, the positivity went out the window on the morning of the race and in particular when younganne started it hit home and the tears came, I should have been just behind her :( When tang crossed the finish line there were more tears (and a minor heart attack!!) :p
I spent 16 weeks working towards the race and no matter what way you look at it, it sucks big time to sit at home when you should be running. I was trying to figure out why I was so upset at not being able to run, the disappointment was crushing - it’s only a dam race after all!! Thinking about it over the last week while I took a break from everything running related, I think I know the answer to this, I put my life on hold and concentrated on this one thing, focusing on one thing like that to the exclusion of everything else is never healthy. Hopefully I’ve learned a valuable lesson there. It’s only a hobby, one I’m not very good at either!

Anyway, onwards, I hope - no running still but I’ve been getting a 2 mile walk most days at lunchtime, some yoga & mediation and a couple of swims. I joined the gym where I swim today so while I might not be able to run yet I can at least try and get some lower effort cardio in while I’m waiting for my heart rate to come back down to something resembling normal. I’ve been wearing my HR monitor on some of the walks just to keep an eye on things, I tried to jog a couple of times but the HR shot right up to 150-160 pretty much straight away and it doesn’t ‘feel’ right so a bit more patience is required. I'm back to the GP this Thursday for bloods so hope to see progress of some kind. I’m going to log my activities, such as they are for the coming weeks and hope that next weeks test results show thing going in the right direction.

A quick thanks to Dubgal, Ososlo, aquinn & aero2K for their kindness and support over the last few weeks, and to everyone for your lovely messages.

Boards says I've 40 logs to catch up on  just as well I've nothing else to do!!

Very sorry to hear, AM, but you had made such great progress I can see how it would hurt not to be at the start line. All the same you will be back at it in time, you are too motivated not to. Good that you are feeling well enough to get in some cardio anyway, and fingers crossed that the doctors sort things out quick. Do not forget the movies, wine, books, dossing etc that will have got neglected over the past year ;).
