At this point in the game I want to give credit to meno, the plan is fantastic, it’s hard work yes but also very enjoyable and has clearly brought me fitness gains beyond what I’d hoped so thank you and for all your help and support so far. And to Aero, for all your advice and yes, you are always right..

No matter what happens in Rotterdam I finally, finally have my sub 2 half - yahooooo!

    gun time: 1:57:07
    chip time 1:56:41

Except of course on those occasions when Mrs. aero is right.:D

    Sunday 6th March 4.2 miles @ 11:16 avg hr 124

Thanks everyone, much appreciated - still buzzing today but back to the grind! Had a lovely long lie in, finally dragged myself out of bed and oh crikey the body was sore, quads, hams, calves, feet, arms and worse of all, right hip in a total jocker! Threw on the compression socks (or sexy socks as tang calls them :p) and walked the dog, came home, foam rolled & stretched and headed out for a recovery run. I only looked at the HR for this one, took a while but gently eased into it and the legs felt better by the time I was done. Am hoping to get a physio appointment next week to iron out the kinks.

    WTD: 39.2
    MTD: 35
    YTD: 410

    Rotterdam 5 weeks today

The next two weekends have 10 miles at MP as part of the long runs (18 & 22 miles.....) so if anyone who's not broken () or training for a marathon fancies a jog I'd love some company.

Well done on the race. Well and truly got rid of that sub 2 half marathon monkey, training paying off.

:D I'm gonna take that as a fantastic compliment, who wouldn't want to be like Murph!! However... if I made it sound easy that's my mistake. There were parts of the race that were tough as hell, sections where I wanted to give up, the old me would have, the new me? no way hose, apart from getting fitter I've learned just how much the mind controls the body. PMA is absolutely key. I will be repeating my new mantras every single step of the way in Rotterdam.

    Monday 7th March 4.2 miles @ 10:34 avg hr 126

Had a long day ahead so got this done early Monday morning, enjoyable run, legs a little tired maybe but all else ok.

    Tuesday 8th march 4.2 miles @ 10:40 avg HR 141….

Not sure what was going on here, initially I had a pace of 5:30 on my watch - I thought for a second I’d somehow managed to change over to KM’s  so I stopped the watch .7 of a mile in and started the run over, pace was fine on the restart but the HR was crazy high, up to 170 in parts!! I felt ok so was a bit bewildered by that. Remembered that my RHR had been a few beats higher that morning.

    Wednesday 9th March 10.8 miles @ 10:34 avg hr 140

Obviously this is what was brewing yesterday…..I wasn’t feeling 100% yesterday evening but I went to bed early and thought I’d be ok today. I did feel better when I got up this morning although quite tired still. This was to be 12 miles easy, a few miles in I realised it wasn’t going to be so easy. Had a quick toilet stop around mile 6 but the HR went straight back up when I picked up the run again. I was roasting and sweating far more than I normally would. Considered jumping on the train at Castleknock but decided I wasn’t ‘that’ bad and pushed on. The run through the park, even though the weather was beautiful, was awful, never has Chesterfield Ave felt so long. I saw a Luas at Heuston and knew I could catch it at the next stop so I upped the pace for that few hundred mtrs, stopped the watch at 10.8 miles (ocd be dammed) and hopped on. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow but I might just take a couple of days off, my mileage won’t be greatly affected and it’ll probably do me some good to have a rest.

It's definitely best to see how you feel over the next few days - a day or two off won't do any harm.

I'm hoping sufficient time has passed since the "Makem listen to maudlin cr*p" debacle - I hope you like this better:).

Just catching up on your log now - my Boards visits have been somewhat sporadic lately ! Well done on the half - delighted for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭Younganne

Hope you're feeling better already and it was just the increase in the temp this morning that affected you. 4 degrees instead of -2 , weekend running should be great to get us ready for the heat in Rotterdam!!!

But take an few rest days if not feeling 100%, too close for taking chances!!!

Mind yourself AM maybe time to dose up on the vitamins. Hope you feel better.

AM - brilliant race and hope you are rightly proud of what you achieved. Just the sort of pb that justifies all your hard work.

Look after yourself this week if you need an extra day or two to recover.

+1 to all the above....and start banking some sleep credit. You're training hard, your immune system may be compromised. One way - as you well know ;) - to balance that and help recovery is.....sleep.

We could always put a sleep watch on her, whaddya think folks? Gentle nagging for posting after 10:30pm progressing to tsunami-nagging after 10:35pm??!
