Particularly if they are expecting multiples of the WiiU install base to be sold, we'll see GotY edition of MK8, Splatoom and SSB for sure, no?

Cant cost them too much for SSB MK8 Splatoon GOTY editions on NX. Might get plenty sales for those that skipped the WiiU but those who still appreciated great Content it has. If backward compatible then maybe theyll stick to new content only. But i for one would love a online/local battlemode for MK8. Its all its missing to be to THE top MK game.

I think now if finally be right time for first Nintendo console to support all Nintendos back catalogue. NX WiiU via disk if it has it with online shop too. Along with virtual console rebranding. With GC Support. Imagine having Nes Snes N64 and rest all on 1 console it be ultimate fanboy machine as long as new NintendoID links all purchases to ID not console.
Then add parity with ps4x1 level NX games with 3rd party support. 3 months and we know all at E3!

    I'd buy that for a dollar! ;)

One of those rumour sites has a supposed leak of some of the details, something about a powered wireless HDMI cable so you could plug it into any telly in the house or something.

Also something about it being the power of 50 wiius which was a bit ridiculous.

I read it this morning but I can't find the page again unfortunately.

    EDIT: found it.

That was a 4chan rumour that was reported as a gino rumour (apparently the guy has a name in rumours). It's pretty much accepted ot be false at this point. We can dream though.

Must be a sure thing at this point that any big IP releases on the WiiU are going to be released in some way for the NX, either as a 360/XB1 style backwards compatibility or a straight rerelease.
Particularly if they are expecting multiples of the WiiU install base to be sold, we'll see GotY edition of MK8, Splatoom and SSB for sure, no?

I hope Nintendo don't join the others in the "hd" re-buy malarkey.
Do what they always do, and make a new version for the new console.

This is a bit later than I expected for Nintendo's fical year results. I think it's in part because this is where we'll hear the first official information about NX from Nintendo. It might not be much, may just be the new consoles real name but I'm convinced there'll be something.

As someone who only played both games the past couple of years I would happily get a new Luigi's Mansion

Hmmmm. Looks like the mockup someone did of Mario Kart 8 on a controller. Where it was pointed out how stupid it was having screen where the hands will be covering it.

No way is this true. It's such a ridiculous fake. The whole idea is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

...unless the intention is not to use the controller as a screen, just to have a controller that looks dynamically awesome and is themed to whatever game you're playing.

I mean, that's still a stupid idea, but it's ever so slightly less stupid than having an oval screen that you mostly cover with your hands.

If the controller has a touchscreen instead of actual buttons, that might put me off buying an NX. I'm sure that leak is a fake, but it'd be pretty much a worst case scenario for me!

it looks too daft to be true.

There's no way that's real. Ergonomically it just looks uncomfortable to hold even.

If there's anything to be learned from the WiiU, novelty controllers just alienate people.
Expensive novelty controllers also fup up your profit margin, so best to keep it traditional and just let us connect our New 3DS handhelds if you just have to have a controller with a screen.

Nintendo will end production on its Wii U console sometime in 2016, according to a report from Japan's Nikkei. The console, which has sold poorly compared to its wildly successful predecessor, debuted in 2012.

According to Nikkei's report, Nintendo has already stopped manufacturing certain Wii U accessories. The outlet, which has a good record of reporting on Nintendo's unannounced plans, reports that while Wii U hardware is being discontinued, a launch of the company's next platform — codenamed NX — is not guaranteed this year.

Gonna need to pick up a Wii U pro controller before it gets even more expensive so.

Hmm, it just doesn't look comfortable to hold at all.

Where are the buttons? Unless they are using that liquid technology to raise the buttons from the screen? Don't know what it's called.

Hurry up and release the NX information Ninty!

There is apparently haptic feedback on it and also scroll wheels on top, although something like probably wouldn't be in the final design.

It's a pretty strange shape ergonomically has a lot of people have mentioned. Interesting times ahead.

I do like it as black. The previous picture was white. Looks slick.

Just seen the Tweets and images. Looks ugly and not very functional. Can't and don't believe it's true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

I think it might be something other than a 'controller'. Although what that is I've no idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

I don't get it? Its so weird. Please don't be real.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,545 ✭✭✭murphyebass

Hope that's not the controller. Looks incredibly uncomfortable.

That said I doubt that's even close to final product.

Just go back to the N64 controller. The pinnacle of control (albeit a short lasting one due to the dreaded white dust).
Otherwise, the wavebird had it all. The big N must recognise this since they re-released it for the wii u

please dont get rid of physical buttons nintendo :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,385 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

God, I really don't think I'd want to play anything on that controller. I just don't ever want to use any controller without physical buttons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

How many DS games only work by touchscreen controls? And how many of them are good? Not many.

The guys that posted those pictures on reddit had this to say:

"Only the upper 'nubs' of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom 'sphere'.

"The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don't believe this will be the final design.

"Haptic feedback is feels like Apples 'taptic' engine. Not like regular rumble.

"3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom"
