I'm not a trials player, barely hold my own in regular PvP, but I ended up getting involved in one of Ramblinnn's trials experiments last night. He's the guy who has been running 1v3s recently and grabbing a few wins in the process.

The idea was to take someone who has never been to the Lighthouse before (and in my case, only played a couple of Trials games), and then 2v3 the opposition. I found it really, really tough, especially on a map that I'm not very familiar with (Burning Shrine). I decided that the most I was going to contribute was callouts, so when I inevitably died, I tried to keep talking. You can watch the (admittedly embarrassing) video on his last broadcasts on Twitch. I drop in at the 1hr 30 min mark (NutCity).

We grabbed a few wins, but ultimately, we were getting matched against players that are leagues above me, so we didn't get very far. In fairness to the dude, he pulled in another top quality trials player and carried me to flawless on my third card with him. My next goal is to make the Lighthouse without literally one of the best players in the world carrying me there :D

nice partners to have in trials :D , how did you end up playing with him ?

    Yeah, ridiculously good trials partners.

It's in the video, around the 1hr 20min mark, but I was pretty lucky to end up playing with him. He was running 1v3s like he has been doing every Monday for the past 4 weeks. I think the fact that the map was so small meant that it was far easier to pinch him so, while he was winning rounds 1v3, he was getting beaten overall in each game.

He basically got frustrated and decided to try something different, said, the first person to reply in chat that hasn't been to the lighthouse before gets to join him in game for the 2v3 experiment. I almost smashed my keyboard banging out my reply :D Got in first, and ended up playing for almost three hours with him.

Anyone interested in getting together on a regular basis to practice 3v3, with a goal of going flawless?

I generally try to play every weekend, been slack of late with hols and IB. I won't be on every weekend going forward but I will try as often as I can. I think you need a pool of players so if someones not on then no matter.

I have a KD of 1 so nothing special and I find ToO tough, enjoyable but tough. I was trying to snipe and was having marginal success, at least it makes the other team think a little bit about just standing off. I'm not a good sniper so last weekend I played with some good players and we all ran shotty's, I played better. In regular crucible I run sidearm exclusively so I think this will be my weapon of choice but realistically it won't be as viable against a good player with TLW which you see quite a bit of in trials.

Basically, I'm willing to throw my name in this pot and I'd like to play with players who stick together (like glue) and get revives as a priority. I'm come up against teams who alone are not particuarly good but as a tight unit managed to work out the wins with quick revives. I'm willing to try different things but I believe the basics of sticking together and reviving is the most important play to get down unless you just happen to be **** hot which I ain't.

I'm not on as much any more but I've gone 8-1 three times in Y1, so would be on for giving it a few goes.

As per Dudeeile - I'm only really available in the evenings on weekends.

    So any takers this weekend?

Went flawless again this weekend. Burnt the mercy second match but continued on and got there fairly easily.

The map is pretty easy to flank on and many of the teams didn't expect it. Most of the action was by C and up at the oil tanker so a well timed flank made it easy. You won't ping their radar if they are camping the oil tanker and you are up between B and C with a sniper.

Used Doctrine of Passing and a sniper. Shotgunning teams got their arses handed to them pretty easily, It's really not a good map for rush game play.

Also, the cap point is just behind B on the C side, so if you get C spawn you can own that area pretty easily. The one piece of advice I will give is that if they are camping the oil tanker with snipers, don't bother popping your head out unless you are convinced you can out-snipe them. Wait them out at the cap point and force them to come to you.

Yeah should be on until reset Tuesday.

My goal of DTR 50 has been hit by nobody I know actually playing anymore. LFG is pretty hit or miss and losses knock it back so much. Now on 49 and 70% progress to 50.

Sure. Once I hit 50 I'll be far more laid back when it comes to who I play with, unfortunately atm if I lose one I think I have to win 7/8 just to break even on DTR, very frustrating. PS4 yeah?

Yup, just added you there! Cheers.

Was having a look at some Trials streams on Saturday night and started watching this guy.Watch the game at 2 hours and 2 mins in when it was 2v3. Some beautiful sniping.

Yup, just added you there! Cheers.

Was looking for you but think you were offline.

Successful night overall, played 9 won 9 and got my DTR from 49.70 to 49.84 (how ****ing grindy is this :pac:)

And an even bigger milestone; 50 flawless runs:

Interestingly, Warlock has lowest kd but highest win rate:

I actually use Voidwalker most of the time, can never get the hang of Sunsinger despite it being considered the best class. Feels too clunky for me

If you've played at all there will be a report for you. Its used to scout out your opponents while you're flying into the game. Gives good info on what classes they are/guns they're using/builds etc.

The 3 character report there is 'My Trials Report' which just gives a more in depth breakdown of 1 player.

Where's Dr. Mantis? Did I see you up against Teawrex and Rebelize last night.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭PetKing

Sorry I missed you last night, I ended up going on earlier than planned. Nev, Tobes, and Toastor carried me through my first Trials. Got all bounties completed in an hour and a half. The carry was strong! I must say, I really enjoyed it though. Got all the bounties finished getting the Trials helmet for my warlock, a Jade Rabbit from silver and the water star hand cannon with range finder from gold package. Think I'd happily run each with if only to complete bounties and chase down the Doctrine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭Hail 2 Da Chimp

No worries, got in a few games of IB anyway.
Great rewards from the packages though.

I got a blue engram from my silver and 300 sunlit ghost from my gold packages -_-

I actually like that shell, wouldn't mind it at all. Got to 5-0 , but had forgot to change from titan, would have liked that helmet for the warlock.

    This weeks Trials stats:

    Wins|Games|Kills|Assists|Deaths|K/d|Ka/d|Victory
    5|13|89|20|68|1.31|1.60|38.46%

Not too bad on the K/D ratio, definitely seeing an improvement but still need to see an improvement in the Victory column :|

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,720 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

That's a very low w/l compared to k/d. Were you team mates letting you down or were you just not converting kills to wins?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭Hail 2 Da Chimp

There's not many people available for Trials - so experience levels on all sides are low enough (myself included). There's a few of us who get together each weekend to give it a run but we're still finding our legs.

It definitely took us about 5 or 6 games just to get our tactics down.
For my own part, I've been playing a good bit of Rumble the past few weeks, concentrating on scoring kills and not giving away deaths - which I'm seeing the benefits of now.

That being said - we lost a couple of stupid games, I can think of 2 cases where we were stomping the opposing team and they came back from 4-2 to win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭PetKing

Ahem.... There MAY have been 2 matches in a row where I scored no kills whatsoever :-(
In my defence, I'm finding my feet in Trials having never played before, as Dudeeile says in OP, I'm finding my sense of adventure ;-), I'm more casual at the minute as I run for bounties, and also I BLOODY HATE ASSYLUM!!

Edit: Also I'm primarily running to get the Doctrine, secondly for the Inward Lamp.

Saw a video of a youtuber carrying a six year old through trials recently. Meh, if he wanted a real challenge he could have tried carrying me some Saturday afternoon.

I'd love to get in and try Trials but would feel that I'd be letting the side down as I wouldn't be confidant enough. I am also trying to "git gud" playing some rumble but matches can be hit and miss for me.

Would need to get in with a team who aren't too pushed on getting to the lighthouse, but this is difficult.

I'm gonna keep on with Rumble and hopefully my game will improve enough to allow me into Trials.

On the whole - you didn't do too bad, you weren't giving away silly deaths, stuck with the pack, played well to the strategy, and did pretty well in all of the other games. That's 90% of the battle with Trials (IMO).

Just as a comparison - I've checked my Trials stats for last week and yours for this week and we were pretty much matched K/D wise. I think this is the first week I've gone positive in Trials.

I'm pretty sure if we get some regular Trials teams going, have a bit more practice together, we'll get there.

There's a few lads in the clan looking to do Trials only to complete the bounties. You could easily join up with one of those teams and get a bit of experience.
It'd be far more relaxed than the more serious runs.

What's the best site for looking at clear stats of Trials? I've been to a few and they seem cluttered. Last week I felt I could hold my own better Burning Shrine, CQC suits me rather than sniping lanes on Asylum (I'm a terror for sticking my head out "just to check") :/

Finally played some games with Chimp, we were in Elimination and the opposing team invited us to their party, was kinda funny for a few games. They got rather salty after this though :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭Hail 2 Da Chimp

What's not shown there is, we were in a party with these lads and they were talking some serious sh!t up until the Nova bomb - so that made it extra sweet.

They were fairly highly ranked players (and they kept telling us that) and AdamD 1 v 3'd them twice in that game.

Cheers for the games AdamD :)

Is the gun you get at 7 Wins a guaranteed one? If so, is there a rotation? Like remember when everyone farmed the Auto Rifle, was that cause it was guaranteed to drop at 7 wins? If so, what gun will drop this week? Cause if it's a f**king Water Pistol I ain't fussed
