Nice work on the paced miles. Deffo looking at a 1:2x:xx for Trim, especially if it's as flat as Tang claims ;)

Eh no! 1:30 is the goal...there's no chance of a 2 in the finish time :D and we all know tangs idea of flat & mine are poles apart :p (ok I'll stop going on about it now B, time to let it go!!!)

Edit, I did say sub 1:30 didn't I so 1:29:58 then..with no flying mile to help me lower the average.. gulp

Ah so you're up to 3 rounds are you? I'm still struggling with 2! I don't know how you do it!

Yep 3 rounds from the week before last, it's getting 'easier' though.. I'm not as sore today!

I'll predict low 1.28.xx or high 1.27.xx for her, she'll* totally shoot me down but she* is more than capable.

What II said to you earlier x 100!!!

I don't need the extra pressure, it'll be tough enough to reach that goal and I'm not sabdbagging in the least, 10 x 9 min miles is a big ask for me, look back at my half marathon performances...

Not putting pressure on you as I don't do well with it myself as you know, but just remember your training has been brilliant for the past while and your endurance is miles ahead of what it was, so I think you might just surprise yourself about what you're capable of over a longer distance run.
But no pressure!!!! Just keep up the great work and the main thing is the main thing!!!

    Friday 29th January 2016: 4.1 miles @ 11:01 avg hr 132

No time for my recovery run yesterday so out today instead, far too much unavoidable sitting yesterday & could feel it everywhere today, legs loosened up eventually though.

    Saturday 30th January: 14.4 miles including 3.1 @ Cabinteely parkrun @ 10:49 avg HR 140

After the whole ‘is the canal safe’ debate I decided to look elsewhere for a route for this weekends 14 miles, when I saw that it was 11 miles from the PP to my most favourite parkrun + 3 for the run there was no contest. Yes it meant I had to start before the crack of dawn, and it meant I had to carry a heavier than normal backpack so I’d have a reasonably warm change of clothes for the bus journey home but it was worth it :) Set off from PP in the dark, down the quays over the east link, the sun was just coming up and as I turned the corner onto Sandymount strand the view took my breath away, beautiful pink sky with Dun Laoghaire pier on the horizon. I was tempted to get the phone out for a photo but was on a strict deadline so carried on. Got to Cabinteely at 9.26, just enough time to grab a glass of water from the cafe use the facilities & straight down to the start line, big numbers again this week which is great to see. Started off towards the back and jogged around, this was harder than St Annes last week probably because I’d run farther before starting the PR and oh yeah, the bloody hills!!!! The legs were sore and the HR was far higher than it should have been for easy, oops! I’d left the house without breakfast, just a few bites of an apple & 200 ml glass of water, so into the cafe for a cuppa, a scone & a protein bar I’d brought with me. The parkrun service in Cabinteely is second to none & I got a lift up to the bus stop which saved me a very long walk :p thanks again :D. Good ole 46a brought me back to the PP.

Followed by a few miles walk in St Catherines with the dog. A cold but beautiful day.

Looking forward to seeing lots of PB"s in Raheny tomorrow!

I do appreciate the sentiment guys thanks, it'd be great if you were both right but I'll only be aiming for 90 mins, I'd be over the moon to get that on the day.

    Sunday 31st Jan 4 miles @ 11:31 avg HR 131

UGH, this was hard work, the legs were feeling yesterdays hills and the HR was very high starting off possibly indicting I'd overdone things so I kept the pace very slow and ran on the trails as much as possible which gave instant relief to the hips.

    WTD 37.2
    MTD 188.3
    YTD 188.3

hot date for lunch run tomorrow, can't wait ;) although it looks like we might have company in the form of storm henry

    Monday 2nd February 5.1 miles @ 9:54 avg HR 149

No session this week with Trim coming up on Sunday so thought I’d take the opportunity to run a few slightly faster miles with Wild Garlic who gave me a guided tour of Merrion Square :) can’t believe I’ve never run in there, it’s lovely, nice & quiet a little oasis in the city, thanks for the company B, a very enjoyable run, glad to see you got out for a few faster miles later :p

    Tuesday 2nd Feb 3.4 miles @ 10:42 avg HR 128.

enjoyed myself so much south of the river yesterday I decided on a ‘see where the wind takes me’ run, I never do this, I always need to know exactly where I’m going :) ended up in random places like Google who have a sign on the canal basin saying Google Docks….

    Wednesday 3rd Feb: Runmute 8.3 miles @ 10:50 avg hr 133

Had considered doing this at home later this eve as it was all @ easy pace but you know what? I love my Wednesday runmute :) when all this is over I’m definitely going to run into work twice a week. Another beautiful morning although slightly damp. I didn’t do the strides, figure I’ll do them tomorrow, also I notice I’ve nothing on the plan for Friday or Saturday but think I’ll do a few miles on Friday and probably go for a swim on Saturday.

Am really watching what I eat this week more so than usual in an effort to shift one more pound before Sunday, it all helps right?! plenty of water and so far not bad on the early nights front. I was going to say Zero alcohol since Christmas day but I did have half a drink on 28th Jan (Mulberrys fault), its definitely making a difference, not that I drink a lot but I'm sleeping better I think and eating less rubbish too.

I'd be cautious on this one.
10 miles is a monster session - your more likely to be more fatigued during a 10m race from not having enough fuel &/or risk a much longer recovery.
I'd eat normally this week and look after the lbs/kg's from next week.

thanks A, I guess what I mean is I'm eating more healthily this week, not that I'm eating less, just no junk at all and cutting back on the bread but lots of protein, veg, nuts, porridge etc. I take your point though and will make sure to be well fueled over the weekend. I have however just had to go out & buy new trousers for work as my current ones needed a safety pin to hold them up this morning :p

Have a great race Sunday AM!
It's been great following your training so far which seems to be going seamlessly well of late. You really deserve to have a fantastic race, so just relax and enjoy, and it'll all go to plan!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,182 ✭✭✭demfad

Very good choice of race. You've done some great training there and you'll be very strong from it. If you concentrate on correct pacing early, then the middle of the race will take care of itself. Those parkruns after long runs will kick in in the closing stages. Best of luck with it!
