The Sky bundles are claiming speeds up to 100mb now.

Have they really upped their speeds that much or are you likely to be getting 10mb on the wifi?

I could only get 7 mbs in my apartment from their test so had to stick with virgin. If you can get the 100mb its a good deal. They use Eircom.

Eircom lines are in general - not the best. They use an aDSL connection from what I remember and it can be temperamental. In general I wouldn't go to Sky for BB.

I'm in two minds what to do. Might ring again and see what I can get for a BB only package downgrade. After that I'll either grab an Android box or Sky TV only. I don't watch a whole lot of TV though so I'm leaning towards the Android box.

Is the Virgin media Tv box any good or is it still the same crap as the UPC one?

ok - so currently on 120mb with phone for 42 per month - going up to 47 per month - in a contract until june/july - had half price for the first 6 months.

So i had a read of here - and gave a call through to loyality - got a non irish person(dont want to offend) - nice guy - asked him was there any change in my service for the extra 5 euro - nope - advised him that my sister in law got half price for 9 months - had to put me on hold whilst he checked out my account

Came back and said ok great news - i was like that was easy - he said upgrade to 240 and i can give you 10 euro off per month for 4 months. I had looked at the offers for new customer and it was cheaper for new customers than loyal customers as i have been with them years. Said that new customers get it for 30 per month and he was quoting me 45 which included the discount - told him that i can get sky for 49 per month as we had a landline in the house as we just moved into it and we already had sky tv - again he had to put me on hold

Comes back has spoken to supervisor - advised me that im only off half price and i was locked in a contract until June/July.... I thought this was silly and this is were I got a little annoyed - I opened the email that I got from Virgin to say about the increase - I told him that i wasnt just ringing for the craic that i was ringing in response to an increase in my cost for the service... and read out the part that i can change/cancel my contract without charge up to feb 20th and to give me the email address for cancelations.... Hold on I've to put you on hold

Comes back - 9 months half price of 27.50 with 240MB and Free mobile calls on the Phone - then 3 months at 55 on a 12 month contract! Happy Days!

Key Points to note - took 45 mins to get sorted and was on hold 3 times so be patient - my sister in law doesnt even have upc so i just used it to say what id heard here - you can definately cancel the contract and there not gonna disconnect you for asking - my wife was like oh they could cut us off, go easy - they cant cut you off and wont - just stick to your guns and you will get it

564 per year for 120mb - 412.50 per year for 240mb - saving 151.50 per year for better service! Delighted

I've had sky fibre for past year. Get 60-70 over wifi no bother. Only reason I switched was UPC could bother to repair the line on a neighbours house and every time there was heavy winds my connection just kept cutting out.
I dont use the phone but just be aware they don't offer free mobile calls at all.

Thanks all for the info on the thread. On Monday best offer I got was half price for 6 months and the girl (Irish) said no way that a 9 month offer wouldn't happen. Told her I'd cancel so, didn't send the email and rang back today and got the foreign call centre, after a few minutes got 9 months half price (although he said they couldn't apply that to the multiroom boxes and I didn't push it), so a saving of €360 for the year!
I just said to him that I knew other people had gotten it despite what the first girl told me and I wanted the same as other people were getting. I did ask about upgrading broadband too but he was pushing Horizon on me and didn't overly want that so said I'd stick with the broadband we had already.
He was a bit difficult to understand but got there in the end!

    Just sealed a deal.
    €20 for 6 months
    €40 for 6 months
    12 month contract
120mb BB with phone (free landlines)

    €360 per year

My advice...keep an eye on your bill.

    I had agreed
    €15 for 6 months
    €30 for 6 months
    12 month contract
120mb BB (i think) with phone

Now they are saying I agreed to 20 and 40 same as above, so waiting for a call back after they check the call (I got person on phone to repeat the deal about 4 times...)

Was just on chat myself and started with 5 euro off a month. Then 10 then 15. Threw in free setanta for two months. Told them id ring loyalty.

I have an old deal i negotiated last year that doesnt exist. The current deal most similar to mine 80 per month.would see me lose 50 channels. But double my speed. I pointed out i didnt ask for double speed it was being forced as was a bill increase to subsidise other customers.

Can someone clarify if that is recorded so when i ring they know ive been on already?

    I

Got 240mb for €22.50 for 6 months and €45 for 6 months. Works out at €33.75 a month for the year.
And I secretly have the 17 cable channels too that they don't know about.

I think all their calls are recorded, but that doesnt necessarily mean notes on your account are correct. Maybe keep a note of number and time you called.

    Have the chat transcript.

Apologies thought you meant phone call.
I wouldnt be entirely reliant on the online chat linking into your account in my experience tbh

Just off the phone there. Was out on hold 5 times! Then I was told I'm not eligible for offer. Then I mentioned sky offer she told me I wasn't factoring in the set up fess etc etc. Eventually managed to get a 6 month half price deal so €25 a month for 6 months then up to €50. I have 240 broadband and mobile package. I was on my break so didn't have time to push for the 9 months.

Anybody that can help me save some money?

I went into an 18 month contract back in July '14, horizon box, half price for 6 months. I'm paying VMI for 120MB Broadband, I have Sky Movies HD, Sports HD and most channels, and my contract just ended, paying around €140 per month. When I tried the old cancellation threaten, they offered to reduce Movies and Sports by 20% for 12 months so my bill has shot down massively to about €130.......

I've tried to say I'm cancelling and going to a competitor but they tell me they can't do anything else for me.

I've asked if I can go into a new contract but they say I can't because I'm an existing customer.

I am currently on the old 60mb and 50 SD Tv channels package. Started off paying 55 per month, but in a year it has gone up to 65 per month. I gave them a call on their loyalty number and this is what happened:

I was speaking with an Asian guy. Told him that Sky are offering a really good deal at the moment and that I read online that current customers are being offered better deals. He then listed out their three packages (as what is on the website) and told me the differences between them. I said I was interested in the 80 euro per month deal (240mb + Horizon TV 50 channels), but the price is too expensive. He said he could offer me a 'half price promotion' for four months. I said that is a good deal but it isn't enough as the price is still quite high. He jumped in immediately and said he could give me the half price promotion for six months. As I am currently paying 780 per year with the new price hike this promotion would bring me down to 720 per year, so it is a saving and for an improvement in all my services. But, I am cheeky so I asked if he could go to eight months. There was a pause and he asked me to wait a minute. When he came back he offered me the half price promotion for nine months! I asked if this was a one year contract and he said yes, so I accepted the deal as it brings my yearly cost down to €600. Deal done and processed. Thanks to you guys for bringing letting me know about all of this! :D

I should mention that I was out of contract. My contract ended last August so I have been on a 'rolling contract' since then.

Amazingly i was told.i would get more of a discount if i had the full range of services ( told them i do as i have tv broadband and phone) but i dont have multi room or sky which is what they consider full service

Im about to havr another crack. Ignore sky setanta etc and get your basic package down. They tried to sweeten me with setanta free for couple of months but got nowhere near half price for 6 months which is minimum i will accept

Just had a look at the confirmation email. It states on it that it's a 12 month contract unless you have a promotional price then it's 18 months. Does anyone know are rhese reductions classed as promtional prices?

I just got that mail too but I made sure to ask the guy when I was on the phone and he said it was definitely a 12 month contract.
Did everyone get one of those 'order confirmation' emails even if they didn't change any services? I asked him to leave my services as they were but got an email so want to make sure he's my after moving me to Horizon or something!

Could you tell us exactly what was on the confirmation email please?

Were you given specific details of the price agreed, duration of contract etc in the email?

Phew!!! That took a while. Just got off the phone (dialled 1908 rather than that 1890 number) following a long call (to an operator far away) and eventually got the 9 month deal (i.e. 9 months @ €25 and 3 months @ €50; total €375) instead of paying €50 per month for my broadband/landline.... happy with that. I confirmed that it is a 12 month contract.

The lady initally offered 4 months @ €25, 2 @ €45 and 6 @ €50 (total €490). When I rejected that she offered 6 months @ €25 and 6 @ €50 (total €450). I said no thanks and asked for the email address for notifying cancellations. She then asked me to hold on while she checked something .. and came back with the 9 month deal. Took about 20 mins all told.
