The feeling towards Rice ("so what if he cheated, he was the greatest") is the same way Bill/Tom will be regarded in 10yrs when they are both out of the game and not winning so many games ever year.

If Rice was playing now, and teams were losing to SF, and then the scandal broke; he and SF would be called cheats and calls to be stripped of their SB wins (maybe even a 4 game suspension for Montana for being generally aware :P ).

Social media ups all this stuff, but it fades in time. Every team has done something, the greats are just great either way imo.

Still think passing on Carr for a G when they were so badly in need at QB was poor though; Carr even had some top 10 pick talk at some stages if I recall. Maybe they really liked Bridgewater and sh@t the bed when the Vikings traded up to take him one pick before them at #32. That's my guess, anyway.

Picking Carr would have been a major risk for Houston because of what happened with his brother. Derek looks like being a really good QB but if he went to the Texans and struggled as a rookie it'd be a big ask for fans to show support to the draft choice. If he had anyother name i'd view it differently though

Decent point, actually. Fickle (especially as it was less David's fault than the coaches and worst line in league history's), but still true.

Definitely fickle because David was a legit No 1 pick based on his college performances but coming to an expansion team and having to take all those hits knocked his confidence and left him a shell of the player he could have been. We saw flashes but not the extent of what he could have achieved and thats something that hurt Derek in Houston. It's the same reason why the brother of a top player has to show he isn't good enough rather than that he is good enough to play

Clowney going home isn't the worst thing. It shows a desire to play. He'll learn from this and when on the field he's been great.

Might not be the worst, but it's not good.
Should have stood with his team mates.

If he stayed it would have stood to him as it showed he could handle disapointment. He didn't handle it well.

Aww. I preferred the media bullsh1t version I bought hook line and sinker. So I'm sticking with that. Character issues. Bust. Destroyed the spirit of the locker room.

You put up with him. The Ravens did with Ray Lewis for years. Burfict just needs to make a name for himself as a tough but not dirty player by keeping his nose clean for a year or two then he can do what he wants. Just like all the other guys who play like he does did.

He won't he has never even pretended to regret being an ass

Marvin Lewis' hands are ties anyway. Burfict has become a leader to other idiots like Pacman on that defence. If they get rid of him, there will be a revolt.

Granted, a revolt of morons, but a revolt all the same.

Cincy have never shied away from overlooking character concerns to get on-field production. This goes back to the days of TO and Tank Johnson.

Though admittedly, this is the first time I can remember character concerns resulting in such an obvious, high profile, on-field cost to the team.

Burfict & Jones single-handidly knocked their team out of the playoffs.

I doubt you'll see either take any responsibility for their own actions, Jones is already bitching about Porter being on the field rather than looking at himself at all.

The way they react says it all imo, the Bengals will never quite be good enough with that kind of leadership on the field.

One is a good Coach and one is a Great coach, both assholes. They may feel the same about me, that's fair. Either way, we won together.

You've got to wonder, a QB that can't throw the ball, opponent in their own half, incompletion, 22s remaining and they lose their mind. Aside from being dirty, how can you trust them...

Some Browns fans made this advertisement for 2016 season tickets. It made me feel bad for them.

Not overly impressed by SF's role in that ad.

Hate to break it to you by untill recently most nfl players where using hgh or "deer antler spray" so there is probably no greatest by your own standard.
I'm been a Football fan for nearly 35 years, so you'll be disappointed to learn players using HGH is nothing new to me. But I was talking about Rice, a player who ruined his own legacy by his own stupid admission to cheating. So I don't know why you're sidetracking about HGH, because that is another matter all together. Throw away comments like most players were using it intrigue me. Define most? What empirical data/studies do you have to back up your claim? Do most players represent 51% of the NFL, or maybe 70%? Some people would say most of the Irish are alcoholics, but unless they can back up their claim, then such sweeping assumptions are pretty much meaningless to me. Oh there's no doubt it's being used, but by how many players? Well that's something nobody can answer.

Sure il give you that stay when you tell me what percentage of games rice used stickum

That's a senseless question. Wouldn't someone seeking an unfair advantage, want to use this advantage all the time? Shure isn't that the whole point of cheating. It was me that first brought up stickum a few days ago (And I'm sorry I did now). I can't believe we have apologists still trying to defend him. If the guy said he used stickum during his career, then it is cop on to assume he meant his entire career. But even if it was only 5 or 50 percent of the time, it still makes him a cheat

im not disagreeing but how can you dismiss hgh which is known to be used because i dont have a stat but then decide that jerry rices whole career is bollocks because he used stickum when there are no stats to back that up either?

Well to me if you are a cheat it doesn't matter whether you used PEDs or stickum. Either way you are using something against the rules to enhance your performance on the field.

I loved watching Jerry Rice and he would have been an all time great even if he didn't use stickum but he did and that's cheating and it certainly takes away from his legacy.

Laughable ban, how much more evidence is needed to ban someone for life? The guy plays to injure and has succeeded multiple time.
