Well does he want to be a QB in the NFL or does he want to go out drinking every weekend? He can do either.

Hopefully he gets cut, and Jerry Jones gives him a home in Dallas.

That's what we all want. Lets make it happen.

in a way i feel a bit bad for manziel. the kid is what 23/24 and cant go out and have a drink without a big issue popping up over it. like **** let the kid enjoh his money

It's a small list of things I wouldn't do for the millions he earns.

"Stop drinking the day before a medical" isn't one of them!

He will have all the time in the world to enjoy himself fairly soon I'd say. Most players are 23/24 and manage not to go to Vegas while their team is playing.

All the high draft picks they got over the last few years and very little to show for it Donald aside.
Michael Brockers? Janoris Jenkins? Alec Ogletree? Zac Stacy (basically a 1,000 rookie season, could have been solid if not for Gurley being drafted)? There have been others too, even if some like Stedman Bailey and Greg Robinson have been disappointments.

That team has some serious coaching issues and a dire QB situation (plus a complete lack of a real WR threat), but their roster as a whole has improved greatly in the last few years - in no small part off the back of that RGIII trade.

Here is their 2011 roster, for those who need reminding (with Robert Quinn a rookie, and Steven Jackson having one foot out the door) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_St._Louis_Rams_season#Final_roster

Stacy? He was cast aside before they drafted Gurley, barely played at all in 2014 and was released after that season.

My point would be with all these draft picks they never really addressed QB even though they had plenty of opportunity to. 5 first round picks in the last 3 drafts I think.

Tavon Austin was another huge disappointment..

That's hindsight though the Browns ha two first round picks so they went for Johnny manziel and have been critasized massively for it bar trading up themselves and giving up some of the haul they have gotten I'm not sure who they would have got

Coughlin's press conference is on now, for anyone interested.

Don't see what the Browns has to do with it. Up until now the Rams haven't realised or admitted what a bust Sam Bradford has been and never addressed that at all.

Bradford played alright the last few games with the Eagles in a brand new offence that he wasn't used to, I don't think it's fair to call him a complete bust, injuries had a lot to do with it.

Their hit rate on those picks was pretty solid all the same - not sure if you're expecting them to nail it 100% of the time?

I wouldn't jump the gun too quick on Austin. Sure, he has not lived up to a #8 overall pick and likely never will, but for a guy who has been in a poorly designed system, with the likes of Sam Bradford, Austin Davis* and Nick Foles throwing him the ball, he had 900 yards from scrimmage and 9 TDs this season (1,100+ and 10 TDs in you include punt returns).

With Stacy, they got a guy who had 1,100 yards from scrimmage as a rookie taken at the end of the 5th round. Last season, he split time with Tre Mason and had another 450 yards from scrimmage. He was taken right at the end of the 5th round - how are we attempting to label that a disappointment?

The likes of Robinson and Austin were busts (though having an actual QB may still change that somewhat for the latter - 9 TDs and 900+ yards from scrimmage this year it's exactly horrific with Foles at QB), while the likes of Brockers and Donald were big hits. Most other picks were pretty solid, like Ogletree and Jenkins.

Over the last four drafts, the Rams have added the second best defensive player in the league (only behind possibly the best ever, at this rate), a PB/AP level DT alongside him, a guaranteed 100+ tackle LB, a big splash play CB (10 INTs, 3 FF, 2 FR, 6 def TDs in 4 years), an AP punter, one of the better kickers in the league, a 1,000 yard rookie RB, an all pro RB, and a solid backup RB (Tre Mason) among others - they have certainly not done very poorly on the whole. They've just completely buggered by far the most important position on the field, need a bigger pass catching play maker, and their coaching has been notably below average and vanilla.

*Not sure why they didn't at least keep Davis as #2 QB; the guy showed good potential in my opinion.

This is football but not really NFL related. I watched a film last night named Woodlawn, it was OK but pushed a christian message a little too much for my liking. Anyway it was about the high school career of former Fins RB Tony Nathan. Found this article about about the game that serves as the finale for the film. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/11/banks_vs_woodlawn_1974_the_big.html thought it was an interesting read and some of you may enjoy it.

    Thought this tweet was great.

It's different, because even when he wasn't bald he was one of those 1-all-over guys back when he was 23/24. I guess he wanted to try something different.

It looks like if Brian Urlacher decided to become a gym membership salesman.

Didn't even recognise him in the first tweet with "all" that hair, despite his name being right there! :pac:

Christ, I know his numbers have been down but he only turned 30 during the season! This is even more unexpected than Patrick Willis, it's not like WR is as high impact a position as ILB. Maybe he just lost his hunger for the game and has enough money to call it quits; doesn't strike me as the type who would've recklessly blown it all either. Him, Andre Johnson and Fitzgerald always seemed to have good heads on their shoulders after taking over for TO/Moss as 'the' top WRs in the game.

Probably join the Pats on a final one and done deal so.

Right lads, say you've been given 100% control of the Browns and tasked with sorting them out. How do you go about it? Who do you hire? What do you do in the draft?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,475 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

    Trade Manziel to the Cowboys.

Move to San Diego, for the laugh.

    Resign.

Bring the team on the Harry Ramsdens challenge and then to coppers

Pack everything up and sneak off in the middle of the night, set up a successful franchise in a place and with a name that aren't permanently cursed by the sporting gods.

The blueprint for success with the Browns already exists.

That's actually a really interesting question. While I think the smart thing to do is burn the place to the ground with everyone in it, there is another option.

They have hired their "moneyball" GM so I'd now go all out for John Harbaugh. Offer him anything he wants. They need a real coach who will get rid of rubbish like Justin Gilbert.

I'd let Harbaugh decide if he wants to keep Billy Football or to get rid of him.

If you want to go one step further, I'd look to bring in John Idzik as assistant GM. The guy is a genius when it comes to overhauling the roster (as long as someone else is picking the players). In 1-2 years he could have a bucket load of salary cap space to work with

Hire Tom Coughlin as HC and get Greg Olsen (Jacksonville) as your new OC & Matt Burke (Cincinatti) as your new DC.

Release Johnny Football & Josh Gordon.

Somehow convince Alex Mack, Joe Thomas, Mitchell Shwartz & Tashaun Gipson to stick around. Also re-sign Travis Benjamin.

Sign any experienced QB named Matt (Moore, Cassel, Flynn, Schaub, Hasselbeck).

Get some experienced leaders in on D in free agency, Justin Tuck, Cullen Jenkins & Robert Ayers will do nicely.

Ðraft the following players in the 1st 5 rounds
    1. DE Joey Bosa
    2. QB Christian Hackenberg
    3. WR Josh Doctson
    4. ILB Tyler Matakevich
    5. WR Devon Cajuste

You should be pretty much on track to get the franchise back in business.
