Has anyone else seen this on Facebook it's been all over my timeline for the past 2 days or so. Apparently this garage is giving away a car if you like their fb page.

Car is a Mk4 Golf 1.4 petrol. Seems like a grand car but I'd imagine it would nearly cost you the same value of the car to go to Scotland (where the car is) to get it, bring it back to Ireland and change plates to Irish ones. Since the car is 'free' then you aren't in any contract with the garage so if anything happens the car on the way back then it's left on your own back and will have nothing to do with them.

Meh, we all know the winner will be the garage owner's wife's brother's son.

    :pac:

1 alloy sprayed, looks well. Will bring the Yaris blog up to date on Monday or Tuesday when I get the other 3 alloys finished..

Who was the garage that did that here? Had a competition for a new car, and the supposed "winner" was one of their wives or something.

Cannot find a thread and the Motor Tax Office website is absolutely useless. Does anyone know what days the MTO is open?

I know the one in smithfield is only 9:30-3:30 Monday - Friday. not sure about anywhere else.

If you google it, the local county council website should tell you.

I seen this on Facebook hardly a massive prize a 13 plus year old average car that the dealer probably took in on a trade in cheap. I can't even understand how it's getting so much attention and comments on Facebook tbh. People getting excited over nothing.

Ah but it's free. That gives perfect reason to go ape!

I think it's rotten, with it being white.

Was that the name? Did anything ever happen over that besides being slated by the media?

Ah I know it would be grand to get for free. But I mean the way some are going on its this life changing prize. I know a few people that won brand new cars in the credit union and they didn't care as much as some do on Facebook about this golf :pac:

I have a 03 focus diesel with limp mode and cold start issues that doesn't show any codes, I just discovered a major looking earth wire attached to the car body that's cracked clean off, could this be causing the issues?

I've been reading around a few threads on here and other places and was just wondering what the general consensus is around mileage on used cars. A lot of people seem totally against buying a car with 100 k kM plus on it, regardless of maintenance etc. I recently bought a car with 140 k Km on it, 2012 diesel. Yeah its a lot, but the thing was serviced every 15 k kM at a main dealer and drives immaculately. I'd take that any day over an older lower mileage version with "one lady owner" that still has the dregs of the original oil in the engine. What do ye reckon?

So I need wipers and only really have experience with OE wipers and Bosch aerotwins. I found the aerotwins good but micksgarage have two types of Trico wipers anyone have any experience with Trico and does anyone know the difference between neoform and flex. They are a good bit cheaper then aerotwins but are the aerotwins worth the premium in other words.

    Trico flex

    Trico Neoform

    Bosch Aerotwins

Flex are upgrade for cars that don't usually have flat blades,
Neoform are just like for like OE style replacements.

Dunno if all Megane 3 have flat blades standard?

Yep there flat ones from the factory alright as there is renault OE ones on it at the moment and they are flat. But by what you said the neoform would be better as they are designed for the newer cars. But are they as good as aerotwins is the thing but then they are cheaper too.

One rocker cover gasket, and what's the other one for?

It's been a good while since I did my rocker cover, takes an age but it's pretty simple to do. Did you get the little rubber grommets/washers that go on the rocker cover bolts? If you haven't I'd recommend you do!

The other gasket is for the oil filter housing. I have a new CCV system waiting to be delivered Monday/Tuesday so when I get that I'll do the CCV, rocker gasket, oil filter gasket and maybe service it at the same time.

Well mine is 11 years old and has 307,000km on it, does about 1500km per week and just passed the NCT yesterday with nothing beyond a headlight alignment needed... but then I service it on time and get anything that goes wrong sorted asap.

I get regular comments on how good a condition its in and doesn't look its age. It's also a far better spec than many newer cars and has a nice V6 under the bonnet.

Still generates a smile on my face every day driving it :)

Granted it's higher mileage than some 2012 diesels but it wouldn't bother me once it was minded. I have an 11 Reg diesel with 135k km on it and still feels like new in a lot of ways and has a lot to give. Wouldn't be any reason why you wouldn't get to 300k km with no major repair bills and you would get well above that once it's minded and parts are replaced as needed.

140k km a lot? I wouldn't even be worried about 200k km. It would be less than half of my current car and I'm not even that worried about mine.
Too many people here buy a car new, drive the sh*t out of it for 2-3 years, don't even look under the bonnet and then sell it as "one careful lady owner". No thanks. When asked about FSH will either lie through their teeth "Ah shure, she's got the full deck, yeah, been serviced every week, so she has!" or "Ah Jaysis, what'll you want that for now, shure servicing is only a scam to make money".
If someone has car with 200k km and he can assure me about the servicing (I don't even care if dealer, indy or self-service), I'd take it over the one with 120k km that's had "Irish" servicing, i.e. never open the bonnet as sunlight is bad for the engine.
