Come to me for service every hundred miles
Baby, let me check your points, fix your overdrive

    Feather-light suspension, Konis couldn't hold
I'm so glad I took a look inside your showroom doors

Oh, I can't stop talking about love
    Oh lemme go on down
I can't stop talking about love
    My baby, my baby

Not particularly car related lyrics, but if ever a song was meant for cruising in a big dirty V8...

Quick question, please forgive my ignorance:o

Washed the car today, hoovered it, topped up screenwash (it does take a bucket or so I think:D )

Did usual under the bonnet check - oil ok, antifreeze ok and power steering ok, too.

Then I noticed small leak, not really a leak but a sweaty spot and have no idea how serious it is.

    374143.jpg

My question is what is it?

    Thanks for looking:D

Pvc? sure if you dropped into a dealership parts desk they could have a gander or would they charge for that

Well, my question was more like is it serious or not, and what that partcular pipe does.

In short I am about to give it full service, new tires and some small suspension work anyway, but at the end of the month rather than now...

    Once again forgive my ignorance...

When I think about it again it shouldn't be expensive and I shouldn't have asked.
Still can't find what it does, and why oil or another lubricant is there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,719 ✭✭✭Hal1

It's no harm asking questions. I wouldn't say a leaking pcv valve is an engine critical part (in the short term) but would effect smooth running of the engine. They are usually cheap parts, well I paid €14 or so for mine (not a merc :)), but I'd imagine they may cost a bit more for the brand.

Back to your original question though, there might be more answers here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w203-c-class/1482069-p0243-turbocharger-waste-gate-2002-c230.html

I'd clean the area up first and see if it reappears, it doesn't look fresh to me!

Was looking at these forums, all I need is an engine bay explained, but can't find a simple picture with descriptions of what is what.

Was just wondering what that particular part is responsible for.

There is a bit of a "lag" when the engine is cold, and the engine revs are not as steady as I want them to be.

For a 600 euro banger I don't pay that much attention tbh.

Will keep looking, but might just book it in for a service now. Seems like Mercedes is doing some special offers, no harm to use a Star diagnostic at the same time.

It looks fresh in the second picture, and it doesn't look right imo.

I would ignore what is on top of the engine, but the connection doesn't look good, greasy and looking like it is going to fall apart soon...

Please point me in the right direction if this is the wrong thread.

Selling a mint condition 2014 Volkswagen Take Up model (one careful owner), 60 bhp, 3 door with approx. 19,000 Kms.

How much do you think we should ask for it?

Could check done deal for similar. They are pretty cheap new anyway aren't they?

Quick one lads. Missus mini has a small leak into the seatbelt pillar. I figure it's the door seal as the driver one is much more shrunk than the passenger one. Going to get it looked at tomorrow but anyone suggest how much it might cost? Cheers.

What year mini? Frameless windows yeah? The R50/R53 models windows can be adjusted up/down forward/backward and angled in/out. So it may just be a window adjustment needed.

If it has had a window motor replaced on that side (let's face it, it surely has had at least one, not known for quality window motors) them it's quite possible it wasn't adjusted 100% right. Because quite frankly it's a pain in the liathroidi.

Gettin a severe pain in my arse with adverts.ie now... people offering less than half the asking price on everything. You could put something up for free and they would still ask you to deliver it! Where do these window lickers come from???

Yea, adverts is not the place to sell anything unless you have plenty of time and patience to deal with the muppetry

    - "Whats your best price" .. er, the price I've asked for? If I wanted less I'd have set it as less

    - "Swap you my <insert random junk here>" .. um ya, because I want your unsalable rubbish.. also note that I said NO SWAPS

    - "Will you deliver to <insert arsehole of nowhere area here> .. surrre, I'll drive 4/5 hours to deliver you something you might not even take in the end

    - "Will it work with <insert random vaguely linked item here>" .. do I LOOK like tech support to you??

    and of course...

    - "I can get it here cheaper" ... off ya go so!!

Anyway in happier news, thanks to George and Tadhg this morning I got the left front headlight realigned, so I took a chance and dropped in to the NCT centre again on the way home tonight and they tested it there and then.. now have a valid NCT again till next year :)

Cheers. It's 05 and only seems to have developed the leak in the last 3 weeks or so. And frameless windows yup.

So after 3 days of banging the dash to get the heater knobs to light they have no permanently stopped working :( So I suppose I may invest in the below trim removal tools (or if anyone knows better ones to get) and then try to find out what bulbs they take which seems to be a challenge in itself.

Yep; gone through most of the local sites and came up with a number range.

One lad called me about the Golf when I had it for sale and was really getting on my nerves between "oh I dont know if I like the alloys, do you have any other set to put on?" and "are you sure its a 1.9?".. The last words he said before I hung up was "And thats your best price? Shur I can get a newer Golf for that price" with me saying "Go on and buy a Mk5 so, dont be bothering me"

Also I had a set of coilovers for sale for a Golf (never fitted to my Golf) and asked did they come from a Diesel or Petrol Golf... Errr how does that exactly make a difference?

Only the ones I put in the other thread. I'll give it a clean this weekend and get more snaps of it. Ive been working all week (except the day I got the alloys and plates) so Ive only been seeing the car in complete darkness!

Crankcase breather pipe I reckon. Probably perished where the smaller pipe comes off it.

If it is that, its connected between top of crankcase and airbox and allows the pressure in the engine equalise. Carries hot air, and often a bit of oily mist. Would explain why it looks quite old but not much leakage

    Imo..!

Cannot find a thread and the Motor Tax Office website is absolutely useless. Does anyone know what days the MTO is open?

On the coilovers, depending on the make they may have different spring rates at the front to deal with the heavier diesel engines compared to petrol.
That may have been the reason for that Q.

    Ah, well that I didn't know :p

Everyone else who enquired only asked would I meet them in various places around Ireland. Sold them yesterday anyways, happy days!

Has anyone else seen this on Facebook it's been all over my timeline for the past 2 days or so. Apparently this garage is giving away a car if you like their fb page.

Car is a Mk4 Golf 1.4 petrol. Seems like a grand car but I'd imagine it would nearly cost you the same value of the car to go to Scotland (where the car is) to get it, bring it back to Ireland and change plates to Irish ones. Since the car is 'free' then you aren't in any contract with the garage so if anything happens the car on the way back then it's left on your own back and will have nothing to do with them.
