I was given a crate of craft beer for Christmas by my daughter. It would be wrong not to drink it while it's still fresh. Dry Feb for me!

You definitely said you were off the beer from the start of new year till after your sponsored walk in Rotterdam. ;) Bit early to be wavering!

its a known fact that going from drinking every day over a 2 week period, to total abstinence is the wrong way to detox and cleane the body.

Studies have shown* that a gentle kinder abstinence which has the alcoholic person give up in a more gradual manner is a better way.

*these studies may not be true

    Monday 4.1.16

    Rest

    Tuesday 5.1.16

20 mins recovery, the usual two miles at this stage. Nothing to report really, all feeling good.

    Wednesday 6.1.16

    2E + 6x1k@6.35-6.45.

Glad I read this before I done it cause I thought it was 4E to start off. Headed to Moyvalley, cool crisp morning and my first bit of speed work in a while except two races. Done the two mile warm up in 9min pace and started into the 1k reps. Just wanted to keep them controlled and not bolt off on the first few and blow myself out of the water for the remainder of the session. Reps clocked as follows:

    4.05, 4.05, 4.05, 4.05, 4.06, 4.05.

Boringly consistent I have to say, the 4.05's are 6.34 pace and 4.06 is 6.35 pace so tiny bit quick but won't beat myself up over it(Coach might think different!!). A thoroughly enjoyable session, and one that I felt in complete control doing. Plus 1 mile cool down to finish the run off.

    Thursday 7.1.16

    6miles Easy@9.02min/mile in 54min 08secs

Legs were showing no ill-effects of the previous day's session but was still glad it was easy miles on the plan. Checked the weather app before heading out and it was giving a real-feel of -5, still plenty warm for shorts. Anyhoo the miles ticked by nicely and the body felt good.

    Friday 8.1.16

    13miles Easy@9.03min/mile in 1hr 57min 35secs

It was cold heading out this morning and made stupid mistake of not lubing the appropriate areas, paying for it now!! This felt very comfortable till the last two miles when my legs started to tire, rest of me felt great, energy & breathing were not troubled. Anyway ploughed on through the last few miles and was glad to finish. Think the legs had the remnants of Wednesday's session still in them.

Few easy miles tomorrow and another session Sunday to round the week out.

    Saturday 9.1.16

    6miles Easy@9.03min/miles in 54min 20secs

First run in a long time I had very little interest in getting out to do. Missus was away Friday evening/Saturday and wasn't home till after 7. By that time it was lashing rain and below zero outside, just threw the gear on and got out as I knew I'd be annoyed with myself if I didn't. Into Summerhill and it was Baltic with the rain & cold.

Had the iPod with me and was looking forward to some nostalgia with the Electric Picnic and sure enough the mood lifted when it came on, some random tune from the early 90's lifted the mood!!! Ten minutes later the feckin thing died and the mood dropped again. Glad to get this done in the end, quads quiet sore after.

    Sunday 10.1.16

    2E, 3@6.55-7.05, 2E@8.07min/mile in 56min 49secs

After being up till 5am watching no7 bring Steeler Nation to the next round of the play-offs I was low on energy for this. But after reading FD's report on an 18mile run off an 8 hr trans-Atlantic flight I told myself to man up. Waited till Mrs tang1 got home and out I went, again into Summerhill, loads of Sunday afternoon walkers about so stuck to the running side of the paths.

Got the first two easy miles done then into the faster ones, 6.58, 6.45, 6.55 they came in at but felt tougher than they should have I felt. I was never under pressure not to get through them but thought they should have felt bit more comfortable.

Finished off with two easy miles, two people of the female variety(can't call them ladies anymore can I?) remarked on how impressive my running was, shows all they know but was nice to hear all the same. Right quad is very sore as I type this, I tore it badly when I was 17-18 and the pain is something similar to that. Bit worrying but I'll monitor it before getting to excited. 41.58 miles for the week, not a clue when I ran that much in a week before this.

    Monday 11.1.16

Rest, decided to give the quad an extra days rest.

    Tuesday 12.1.16

2.05miles Recovery in 20mins, quad felt fine on this mind the pace was close to 10min/mile so it wasn't under that much pressure. Cold out of late.

    Wednesday 13.1.16

    6miles Easy@9.02min/miles in 54min 09secs

Quad felt fine on this again, maybe it was just the legs adjusting to the mileage as i said last week, it was a long long time since i put 40 miles down in a week. Run in some daylight for a change and it was sunny and crisp out, favourite weather to run in.

    Thursday 14.1.16

    7miles Steady@8.04min/miles in 56min 31secs

Had been looking forward to this one all week to see if the quad was just a figment of my imagination:rolleyes::rolleyes:, got the opportunity again to run it in daylight so jumped at the chance. Took in a usual 7 mile loop that had a bit of undulation in it i.e bit of downhill running to test the quad. It all went swimmingly well, no pain on the run nor none after i was done. Cool out but not cold enough to get me into a pair of tights:p:p

    Friday 15.1.16

    6miles Easy@9.02min/miles in 54min 15secs

Underfoot conditions were dodgy on this one, it was fine where the sun was catching the road to have melted the snow and ice but on the shaded parts it was still quiet slippy. Luckily i'm as graceful as Nijinsky on my feet(the ballet dancer and not the horse) so it proved no problem to me. Again checked a few times on the run of how the quad was feeling, zero feedback thankfully.

Have a few Boards running dates lined up the next few days and looking forward to them. Give TbL a wide bearth for a while, hes gone all weird lately posting photos of toilets:eek::eek::eek:. Theres surely some name for that kinky fetish:D:D

    Saturday 16.1.16

    2E, 2x3mile@7.15-7.30 3 mins between sets, 2E

Have no splits for this cause I made a balls with the watch as per usual, see neilc's log for splits. Had a date for this, drove over to meet neilc for a tour of the foothills of the Hill of Tara. We set off and Neil explained it would be a rolling route(feckin mountainous more like). The chat flowed about this and that and the first of the faster sections started. I found it tougher than normal to get into the faster pace but settled into it after a mile or so. First 3 mile section was toughish but got through it. The 3 mins recovery felt like 30secs!!!

Into the 3 miles and started to feel the pinch big time, the quad gave me a few darts of pain on a couple of downhills forcing me to stop(sorry again Neil) and massage it. I hung on big style and was never as glad to hear a Garmin beep as Neil's to say the 2nd 3 miles was done. Two miles easy to finish off.

To be honest I found this tough & only for I had company I would have canned it. The quad gave a couple of unwanted pings on downhill sections. It'll only make me stronger anyway, not every session I'm going to do will go well in the lead up to Rotterdam and I have to accept that. Thanks for that today Neil, as I said only for you I would have given in. With all those hills you run Boston should be a doddle to you, you looked completely at ease the whole way round. Tough but as always enjoyable session.
