    Friday 4.12.15

    5miles Easy@9.11min/mile in 45min 57sec

Handy few miles around home in the daylight for a change, all felt good and the pace was very comfortable. Nothing else to report on it which is a good sign i suppose.

    Saturday & Sunday

Washout and not weather wise, went to work yesterday morning at 6am and got home this morning at 1am and back in for 6am this morning. Wont see home till 10-11pm tonight so have missed an Easy 6 miler and my 12 mile long run this weekend. Not detrimental to the plan at this stage but not something that can become a regular thing leading up to Rotterdam. Anyway back to real life issues now.

    Monday 7.12.15

Rest, 3 days in a row, was going mad:mad::mad:

    Tuesday 8.12.15

    5miles Easy@9.14min/miles in 46mins 10sec

Ah a sweet run at last, few easy miles along the dirty, mucky, wet roads of the Royal County. Weather has the roads in sh!te. Legs were full of zip and bounce and wanted to go faster once or twice but resisted that urge. I'm OCD when i'm told to run at a certain pace i have to stick to that pace.

    Wednesday 9.12.15

    7.65miles Steady@8.17min/miles in 63mins 19secs

Had been waiting all day to get out for a run and the longer the day went on the worse the weather got. Had got a text off the Lemon the day before about doing a few miles around Moyvalley so waited anxiously for the text to say he was in. He tried getting out of it once or twice by claiming the baggage handlers were unable to unload baggage due to weather. He was really angling to see if FBOT was available:p

Anyway he told me to meet at the hotel door at 9.15pm for our date, was leaving the house at 8.50pm and the missus' parting words were "It must be love if your going running in that", told her to get to her bottle of wine:D. As usual the miles flew past once we got going, TbL told me he got badly sunburnt while in New Zealand, he got zero sympathy for that one. As you said yourself before C, if i wasn't meeting you i would have sat on me hole and finished that tub of Pringles i left behind me to go meet you. Thanks again for that.

Pace was faster that steady i know but i'm blaming the Lemon he wouldn't let me run any slower.

you left your wife, a warm comfy couch, a bottle of wine and a tub of pringles to run in the rain with a grumpy old bogger, she's right, it must be love :p

and still with the 7.65 miles.... your OCD needs working on ;)

I was only suppose to do 7, which i ran at HMP and not Steady, i was in enough trouble without doing an mile extra.

    Thursday 10.12.15

    5miles Easy@9.29min/mile in 47mins 26secs

After the previous evenings run & being able to stay with a finely honed athlete like TbL for over 7 miles I felt it was best to keep this run on the slower side of my easy pace. Again drove to Summerhill and done my usual mile down/mile back route. Tipped along comfortably and the legs were fine after the 7 miles to quick the night before. Just got back to the car before the heavens absolutely opened with rain & hail.

    Friday 11.12.15

    12miles Easy@9.14min/miles in 1hr 50mins 45secs

The long run of the week, had an absolute muck nights the night before so the energy wasn't the may west heading out on this. Checked the weather app on the phone before getting started and it was giving a real feel of -7 outside, still didn't wear tights though!! It was indeed cold and took a few miles to warm the body up. Took in some of my usual long route in with a new bit added in so as to keep things interesting.

Headed for the town land of Castlerickard, more why later, and turned back for home then.

Passed by Cullentra House Stables which was the hight of activity, Gordon Elliot obviously has a busy festive periods racing planned. Some seriously fine looking horse being ridden out from my observations but I know nothing about the gee-gees so they could well have been on the way to the glue factory!!

Back onto the main road and heading for home and I was feeling good, thought of doing two miles at MP that was included in last week's missed 12 miler but decided against it as I had deviated from the plan once already this week. 12 miles beeped just as I got to the middle of the village, job done, took the quarter of a mile walk to the house as cool down.

I mentioned Castlerickard earlier and had been meaning to post a photo of this on several occasions previously. It is the second biggest pyramid in Ireland, biggest being in Kilbride, Co Wiclow and is the burial site of Godwin Swift, uncle and benefactor to the great writer Jonathan Swift of Gullivars Travels fame. It is a big imposing building standing 18-20 feet off the ground and is made from big granite blocks stacked diagonally, for copyright laws this is not my photo, left the phone behind today. But it's one spooky looking site:

    Saturday 12.12.15

20mins Recovery, the now standard 20mins recovery of the week after a tough session or the long run. Loving these runs circa 10min pace, got the usual two miles done and the legs felt brand new after it.

    Sunday 13.12.15

    6mile Progression(2E,2ST,2MP)@8.45min/mile in 52min 35sec

Love these runs, i really like runs with a mix up in pace cause it keeps things interesting. My mind was awash with all stuff Rotterdam on this, i know its mid December and its way to early to be getting excited but feck it i'm excited about it. Its going to be epic and has a great bunch of Boardsies on board already. This run ended to quick but am sure coach has something longer of a similar nature for me planned down the line.

Seeing as FD and the Boston lads are laying there warm up races on the line, here is what i have planned:

1.Tom Brennan 5k 1.1.2016 entered, start the year as i mean to go on with a great race.
2.Trim 10mile 7.2.16 not entered, would like to try for a PB on this but thats all down to coach what i do.
    3. Kinvara Rock and Road Half, not entered, again at the discretion of coach what i aim for here.
    4. Cara Bundoran 10mile, not entered, my favourite race of the year and will be incorporated into my last LSR before Rotterdam all going well i'd say.

So thats my racing calendar for the first 4 months of 2016, short stuff after:D:D:D:D

The start of any marathon cycle is an exciting time man, as you say Rotterdam is going to be something special, especially with the size of the crew heading over!! The very best of luck with your training and hopefully I'll see ya along the way somewhere!!

Hope the Rotterdam training goes well for you. Looks good so far anyway :D

And you're dead right to be excited about it .... it's half the fun :D

All the best with the training, B. Agree with CM, you're right to be excited and you're overdue that debut. Your buildup has been very sensible over the past year, can't believe Bundoran is on the horizon again already. It doesn't really fit well with my own schedule in 2016 but if we're in the NW that weekend we might give you a cheer.

    Monday 14.12.15

20mins Recovery, the standard 2 miles done, everything feeling good thank god.

    Tuesday 15.12.15

    6miles Easy@9.14min/mile in 55min 27secs

Daytime run for a change in the lashing rain as usual, i got 5-6 pings of pain in the bad hip during this. First time in a long time that the hip has giving any feedback on a run. It was niggling away for the rest of the evening, not to the extent it was this time last year but i could still feel it. This was my 8th day in a row running, maybe to much.

    Wednesday 16.12.15

Rest, had said to myself if the hip gave any aggro on the drive into work i would take the day off. 5 mins sitting in the car and it started to bother me.

    Thursday 17.12.15

    8miles 2E,4MP,2E@8.47min/mile in 70min 19secs

Apprehensive about this all day, not about the paces involved in the run but weather the hip would get through it. Spent most of the morning driving and bringing Christmas cheer to the people of Ashbourne:p:p. Hip was ok, not as bad as the day before so hit Summerhill on way home from work to get this done.

The first two miles easy passed and no issues, thought maybe the change of pace may show some reaction from the hip, no all good through the 4 miles MP. The last two miles easy and nothing either, glad to get through this pain free. Its hurting as i type but not as severe as Tuesday evening or yesterday. I still do my rehab on it daily since it first became an issue last year, i was told it may flare up now and again but to continue to run as normal and do the rehab on it, hopefully its just a minor flare up.

Will be tight getting runs in rest of week, in Tang tomorrow followed by a visit to the man with the Big White Beard Sunday, i'll stick a word in with him for TbL for that new zimmer frame he does be raving about every time we meet for a run. Keep telling him its new legs he needs to catch us young fellas:D:D:D

Could you ask him for a half a dozen Rotterdam pbs while your there - obviously you'll need to sit on his knee for the request to come true :D

No harm in getting some work done on the hip either? The mileage is only going up from here:)

    Nice work btw

    Friday 18.12.15

    6miles Easy@9.12min/mile in 55min 16secs

Hip behaved itself thankfully on this one, no feedback from it at all. Pace is so comfortable on these runs, its all about building endurance at the minute for me on most runs. Coach throws in a few bits of faster stuff to mix it up but really enjoying it i have to say.

    Saturday 19.12.15

    10miles Steady

No splits or time for this as my wee one decided to delete it on Daddy before he could note the details of the run. It averaged roughly 8.42min/mile i think and was done on the Athlone 3/4 route which was badly flooded in spots from the recent rain deluge in the Midlands. Run was very comfortable and hip behaved itself again. Its still paining after runs but not as severe as earlier in the week.

    Sunday 20.12.15

    6miles Easy

Think the wee one has finally killed my Garmin, it can withstand torrential ran but appears Baby drool is a different story:p:p Ran this on a route i know is six miles on the nose the pace felt easy so going to say it fell within the required easy pace. Seen Santa in the afternoon, said TbL can sing for his zimmer frame.

Weight is now 12 and a half stone, i was 15 at the beginning of the year so happy to lose 2.5 stone during the year. I didn't change my diet in anyway just cut back on booze a bit, ate more sensibly and ran injury free for the year so that makes a big difference i think.

Hopefully I am, definite improvement as the week went on. I've been told Santa won't be bringing me a new one, will have to wait till New Year!! One I want cannot be gotten seemingly for love nor money.
