Rate is now 1.9 per cent again.
Presume they're on a sales push especially with all the negative publicity.

If I do a petrol GTI with 0% I'll be on it but I don't think they will.

I don't think VW ever did 0% finance even PCP. I know Seat and Skoda have 0% on some cars.

The best rate VW do is 1.9% on PCP which is what I got for my car.

They did for a little while on the new Passat I think.

I think there is 0 per cent on golf estate and the Jetta. Don't think it was in the new Passat. Interestingly the apr rates go down for the golf and Passat if you go with the higher spec models.
I presume this is to get people into the more expensive models.
I don't think there will be zero per cent on gti unless the bottom falls out of VW sales completely

Yeah when I went looking for a Golf the rates varied from 4.9%,3.9% and 1.9%, the more expensive the car is the lower the rates. So Highline, GTI, GTD, GTE and R are 1.9%

While the comfort was 3.9% and the trendline at 4.9%

Yeah, the dealer / finance girl I dealt with explained to me that's very deliberate. They want punters to opt for the higher spec variants in an effort to steer away from "paddy spec". So you can have a highline Golf for about the same monthly cost as a base spec Golf.

It's good news for 2nd hand buyers - in 3 years time, most of the used Golfs/Passats for sale will be decent spec highline models.

The margin they make on extras is very high so they can afford to drop the finance rate. It is clever way of them shifting higher spec cars.

I'm less familar with all the vw specs and models but I know with bmw the difference in an SE and M Sport is a few grand. For stuff that costs bm little extra, different shape bumpers for example are zero cost. Stiffer springs are prob zero cost although alot of irish people delete this option. Sports seats can't cost that much more to make over the se ones. Larger alloys would cost marginally more. So I assume vw is the exact same.

A dealer could do 0% finance and discount the car less, it would all work out the same. Think normal discount on list price is around 5 percent.

Oh they can do under certain circumstances. ;)

    Congratulations!

I'm guessing lapiz blue, 5 dr, dsg & leather?!? Is keyless standard now?

By the way, you've come a long way from trying to decide on a GTI v GTD based on fuel economy!

I was guessing you just got a price!? You are still driving a brand new GTI PP! Fair play if you pulled the trigger.

I take back my congrats if he only got a price!

In theory that's illegal in that the advertised rate has to apply to a deal with the same price as a straight cash deal. Otherwise it's a breach of the law on offers of finance. Whether there is any enforcement is of course a different matter.

Lads, of course I only got a price today!
Haven't made up my mind at all if I even want to change as enjoy the gti but I was happy enough with the offer to be honest.
If I go for the R it will be dsg, black pearl with the pretorias. Vintage vrs's pictures swung that for me.
Still not at all sure and in all likelihood will hold on a little longer but thought I would have lost more on my own.
Also I'm still bothered about potential liabilities if CO2 rate goes up much when VW come clean.

    Are you sure? :pac:

34k is not too bad I suppose. But by the time you spec DSG, paint, 5 doors, you're up to 46-47k, so it's a 12-13k cost to change.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 701 ✭✭✭carsfan

Blue looks good too Joe but I think the black just shades it for me and more of a stealth look.
Having thought about it more today I will likely stick with the gti PP another year as makes more sense and I am not convinced the move to the R is for me.
I just wish I had specced dsg when I got the gti!

I went up to airside to see the oryx white R today, it looked great under the showroom lighting. Not sure if it's worth the €1200 though.

folks - what are your views on the performance pack. Does it make an noticeable difference?

Just posting up the MPG for my previous MK7 manual and the current one with the DSG box, in case any potential new buyers are interested.

    Mk7 Gti - Manual - 13K miles over 2 years - 31.07 MPG
    Mk7 Gti - DSG - 2.5K miles over 4 mths - 28.19 MPG

So 2.88 MPG improvement between the manual and the DSG, or 10% better / worse based on your viewpoint...

As per usual, I leave the DCC in "Individual Mode", with ECO or Comfort mode normally selected. So my driving style would normally be considered "relaxed".

Most of my driving is short city trips, so I didn't expect great results anyway.

Apart from the initial few grand in purchase price i just cannot understand why anyone would buy a GTI pp instead of an R.

So the fuel will be an extra €500 a year and road tax €300 more but hardly a consideration on a 45k car.

With the extra spec and performance surely its nuts to even consider a GTI pp ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

Completely depends on the deal on offer I guess. That's coming from someone who owns a GTI PP, but it was a bit more than a "few grand" in the difference when I got mine. Initially and also on APR etc...

I do somewhat agree though, if you're talking in the realms of ~3k difference up front, then yeah I'd also push for the R.

Id have though the DSG would have been more efficient? I guess it depends on whose driving the manual though. Not mater how hard I try I cant get my car north of 30mpg :/

I was watching the "live" MPG readout today while I was doing a steady 75km/hr in 6th and it was hovering around 50.4-51.6. :D

I'm the same as you though, in or around 29mpg for the longer term figure. Still, it's a better figure than the 22mpg I was doing in the ST.

Jaysus was the ST that bad? At least you got to listen to the 5cyl though!!
Have you the DSG box in the GTI?

50 mpg would be a dream at this stage!! The BM doesn't have a live readout, which I miss from the MCS, it was always entertaining to see how fast you could get it to single figures :P

I'm averaging about 26mpg in the R after nearly 5k kms. It did average around 29mpg for a tank or two back in early Autumn but has dropped back again lately - I think colder/miserable weather has a slight affect on it.

On a longer motorway run (Galway-Dublin and back), I got around 32mpg... without excessively breaking any speed limits ;)

I had a quick look at lunch time at my long term MPG - and I'm at 28.9* , I don't have any fancy modes, and certainly don't tip about either, I'm a demon for the heat seats with aircon at 16c too. I'm very happy with the MPG. Its all about perspective for me, and this is the most frugal car I've ever owned, and also providing the most smiles per gallon to date.

    * DSG also
