I've emailed the salesman back and said that the cost to change is too much. I'll see what he comes back with. Won't hold my breath but nothing ventured... ;)

    * Edit - no response yet. Does anyone know of the money saved by the 3 years servicing deal on new cars?

BTW Joe was spot on. I called a dealer about a 2nd hand GTi and the trade in value I was offered was €31,500.. 3k less than off a new one.

I contacted my dealer too and he had the finance department check the numbers and they are correct.

Which dealer are you dealing with? I might give them a call myself ;)

Looking on the VW website they have service plans from
    €159 once a year (15,000km)(classic)
€269 every two years or 30,000km (Ultimate)

So all you're going to get is three services, 1 a year (2 classic and 1 ultimate) which on the above figures would equate to €587.

Hmm not sure of your tone! Just tried to be somewhat helpful guess I better leave you go off and do your own research next time.

But I got this offer with my car, so that's what I'm assuming the offer amounts to. Free technology pack worth about €2k, half price r line kit for the GT and the all important winter pack to keep back side warm:D. Got accustomed to these heat seats in the Passat.

(I was looking at a GTI but chickened out this time around:( wish I didn't)

Absolutely sincere! I appreciate you doing so :):):) Apologies if it came across any other way.

I'm basically trying to rationalise the upgrade to a 161 and the cost of €4500. 600e worth of services goes a little way. :D

I called another garage and they asked me to send them the estimate that I got to see if they can do any better. If not, there are worse things than having to drive around in a 151 GTD ;)

Apparently VW have just announced an extra 500 euro "loyalty" bonus available to existing owners trading in for a new VW that order before 18 th of December.

I wonder can this be back dated to people who ordered a car in November??

    Hmm. Unlikely I suppose.

Got an offer of 36k yesterday.. plus the free servicing and the keyless entry now comes with the tech pack... very tempted

    That seems a good offer?
I reckon as you get closer to the year end and dealers are chasing targets for bonuses it will be possible to cut a very favourable deal.

Cheers. Worked it out that it will cost me 3k to change. Same repayments per month, plus I would get 3 years servicing with the 3 GTI...

I drove the R dsg today.
Like my gti PP but +++
Car stuck to the roads like a limpet in todays wet conditions. Had beautiful black/grey leather only 3300 euro extra?!

That'd be the "carbon" leather. Mental money. The standard leather is about 2k.

I have the Vienna leather in my car which is fine, this really made the car very classy but not worth the money.
Have to admit the R was a fair step up from the gti more than I had expected.
Anybody have the sunroof in their car?
Wondering if it brightens the interior much.

Are you going to go for the R?

Still not made up my mind re. Golf R
Dealer sending me more figures tomorrow. The R in " race mode" was a blast and car felt like a step up in general from the gti. I will decide next week I suppose. I want to check insurance to see if it's much more than I pay now in the gti too before I commit.

Insurance will be in same ballpark give or take a few quid. Definitely not a deciding factor.

    Yep,

Have the panno, and do like it, I have to say. Gives the car an different atmosphere. Mostly use it in the brighter months though, and can be a great extra in the summer.

Did you go for a deal on the gti?
Dealer tells me today is end of offers re 161.

My GTD is arriving in Dublin on Jan 1 apparently.

I didn't mate, thanks for asking. McAllisters pulled out all the stops on it for me though, ended up with a quote of €2500 plus VAT to change up to a 161 GTi and would have kept my payments the same and come with 3 years free servicing.

But I couldn't justify spending more cash after spending what I did on my GTD. I will stick with it for another year or so and re-check then. But I will be going back to them for any future deals.

PS - They did say their deadline was Monday however.

Need advice from you golf owners.
Last day tomorrow to avail of dealer offer re. ordering golf R dsg.
on a pcp will cost me 5k up front and an extra 80 euro a month over what I pay for the 2015 gti pp if I add leather.
Giving me 34.5k for my own car which was 39k new. Seems a fair deal.
To you R drivers is it worth it? The dealer tells me residuals on the R are sky high so he says it will be a cheap car from that point of view as they will be sought after on the used market in a couple of years time.
Are the running costs way higher or is the enjoyment enough to offset this?
Would you hold on. If I do hold on I know I will change in another year to something and there is no guarantee I will get such an attractive price for my gti?
Can't make up my mind whether to stick or twist.

Don't have an R (got a Golf GT), but what is the likely hood of the PCP rate of 1.9 percent being retained for next year. I would imagine the financial implications of diesel gate may force VW to opt out of the low rates. No can tell what's coming down the line but one would imagine that the impending costs from repairs and legal issues may result in some changes to what VW can offer next year in terms of percentage rates on PCP.

I'm sorry that I went down this road of diesel gate and put a downer on your impending decision and I'm sure other readers may correct me on the above as hopefully being an non issue for sales into next year.

No matter what you do you're going to have a great car if you move or don't.

One last point €80 more per month, increase in tax, and probably a bit heavier on tires due to the haldex system. (I know someone who has a 4-motion transporter and feels that its hard on the tyres). These may seem small but do add up, but I guess the trill of driving something so rewarding might outweigh the above.

I own a DSG R. I could talk about costs vs enjoyment relative to a GTi etc and that debate could go on for pages and pages. Everyone is different and put different value on these things, I was in the same position before going for the R and considered the GTI heavily before making a decision.

The question I would ask is, what is the worst that can happen if you go for it? Really, though. You'll have spent a few thousand euro and maybe don't like it as much as the hype or for whatever reason. Sell it and take the hit. That is worst case scenario.

Otherwise, you will always be wondering did you miss out on something. If it's something you really want, do it.

Yes dealer says he can't see VW keeping these low rates indefinitely as it is costing them a lot to do so. Also the VW loyalty offer is up(500 euro). He reckons it is inevitable the rates of interest will go up.
Tbh I am lucky enough that the running costs won't be a huge issue but I don't want to buy and then feel I'm not getting something appreciably better than what I have already.
