Any insight to my tyre problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Guys, as you may know, I got new front tyres and tracking done yesterday. Tonight I noticed that the drivers wheel only is catching the inner arch when on full lock. I can see where it has freshly caught. It's not plastic that may have moved out of place, but metal. What may be the problem? Improper tracking?

Anybody? Will bring it back in the morning, but I'd like to have an idea with what I'm dealing with.

Did you change width or profile noccy?
    That's a strange one!

The wheel arch liner isn't lose or anything I remember it happening to me before the liner was rubbing of the wheel as a screw had fallen out of it. Other than that I don't know why it would be doing it tbh.

Nope, there 205/55 16, same as before. Took this v bad quality pic just there, but it gives the idea. It's rubbing off the metal frame as opposed to plastic liners (which would make more sense, if it was loose etc)

Something is very very wrong noccy, is the wheel seated right? There wasnt spigots on the alloys or spacers?

There's so little reasoning for this to happen, something has moved out of kilt or something hasn't been put back. .

Edit: I don't expect this joke to be got here at all but have you wisefab'd it?

Turn the wheels full lock each way slowly to see what it's catching on. Maybe get a helper to turn the wheel whilst you check it. Another thing would be the measure the wheel arch on each side and compare to see if it's a bumper or liner issue. That would drive me ape until I figured out what was going on with it. Good luck with it.

Not a thing done, no spacers, nothing. I have my money on a bolt or something not put back properly when tracking it. I thought I was hearing things last night, but for about 5 seconds I thought I heard the sound of a bar coming loose and rattling a bit. By the time I had the radio turned down it was gone, so I didn't pass much notice of it. Now I'm doubting it.

Check that track rod is tight before you move an inch!

I can see where it's catching. It's defo something to do with the tracking. It's only on the drivers side. I remember yer man was extra long fcuking about on that wheel, he even had to heat one of the bolts to loosen it. I'll be waiting there at 9 tomorrow to get it looked at.

Stick your hand between the mudflap and the wheel on both sides. Is the gap different?

Seems the same to me. Track rods are all tight, all related bolts seem to tight and in place. It's only 5 miles away to the centre, so I'll take it handy in the morning. I'll let ye know how I fair.

I would ask for the service manager and explain to him / her. They can't have gombeens tracking cars if this is the result. Tell them you'll call joe duffy if they don't :P.

Same fella that's been tracking all my stuff for years. Would be cautious enough with his work. Interesting to see what will come of it!

Just back from a week in Tenerife, diesel is 77c and petrol 87c... bastards.
But yesterday a guy called 4 times asking about the Honda and sent a few txts today to come and see it on Tuesday. Told him I'm back only today and that someone is coming tomorrow evening to view it (true). Texts back an hour ago saying he's catching the train in the morning and is coming to see it.
    Could this be the end?

ha now there is a blast from the past:cool:
the cops loved there fast fords in the 70s,80s,90s :D
    Capri 2.8, Granada Cosworths,
Sierra Cosworths, Escort Cosworths, even bloody RS200s!

I owned a 1988 RS Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 2WD mostly standard and when it was launched it was one of the fastest saloons in the 80s and gave the traffic cops great kudos.:D (150mph ish)

sadly times have moved on and most modern performance diesels would walk all over it without breaking a sweat :o

I like the Sierra and that but I'd probably pick the Astra GSi quicker ( you see one in the later episodes ) or the Cavalier GSi.

Sh1ty day was had by me today.

On the way to work, I hit oil on the road met a car.. Skidded, my car rubbed up against another fellas car as he was pulled in. Onto a grass verge stopping me from sliding in a drain.. with a drop of 3 meters... Wheel arch of my car is mangled and the mirror is missing the glass, but no other damage. The fella car has scratches going all along the side of his car. So have to call him tomorrow to sort out insurance...
