OH MA GAWD the Pip Boy app is live on the Google Play store and it is savage! It has a demo mode since there is no game to connect to. Very smooth and all noises in place. This makes me really really really want a pip boy...

search Bethesda on the store if you can't find it.

because you're posting information about a game that isn't out yet without putting it behind spoiler tags?

This thread and the general one is full of information like that. All the promotional material has revealed WAY more about the game including interviews saying how big the map is (users pointing out they expected this map size). I feel like the minute I say anything critical about this it just gets post-purchase rationalision snarkiness and almost a vested interest to make the info be less seen.

I swear half of the boardsies sound like they work for Bethesda's marketing department. Then again Bethesda does literally hire astroturfing contractors... so yeah.

If the map size is comparable to Skyrim

But not comparable to Fallout NV.
I have a sprint mod installed that works basically the same as sprinting looks in Fallout 4, roughly the same speed and you run through AP at seemingly about the same rate. Just ran from the Mojave outpost in the southwest corner of the map up to the boomers in the northeast, going in as straight a line as possible and sprinting whenever possible. With god mode enabled because otherwise I would have gotten f'd up by a bunch of things. Took about 23 minutes. The green line in pic related is the course I followed.

Also you just said that you don't mind an 8th generation console game with focus on exploration being the same size as its earlier iterations on 7th generation hardware. I do not share the opinion that such a thing is fine.

And what is 'between' it is yet to be seen... but it's definitely not danger that's for sure.

Can do that all in Fallouts when outside. You have played these before yeah?

Yes I have. You can't outrun a lot of enemies before they mow you down. Both with ranged or melee. Ever see a cazador?

I would have thought most people could figure that a link in big blue writing saying "LEAKED FOOTAGE" could contain spoilers no?

Im not too bothered about the map size, its what it contains is more important to me. I never pre order these days so im going to let the game come out and make my mind up then. At this stage from what ive seen so far theres nothing to really put me off and as long as its bug free(well mostly bug free!)ill probably pick it up close to release.

I do like a bit of crafting/building and thats probably the mechanic im most looking forward to. Being able to make your mark on the world is great imo, especially with the amount of customisation the game looks to offer. Also looking forward to see what other people do with it,i can see Top 10 Fallout Creations videos on youtube quite quickly! Then obviously what mods can do with it.

Blue!? URL's are Orange for me. Is that because I have the dark mode on?

It was the bits outside of the link that people were complaining about.

I presume so,just vanilla boards for me:)

Ah cool,i thought it was the actual footage link people were objecting too not being spoilered.

As a few others have said, having a gigantic empty map is utterly pointless. Give me a smaller map with more to do any day of the week.

And as for those screenshots, the textures are horrible, but i doubt that's anywhere near max quality.

I hope the landscape on the map is more varied. My main issue with New Vegas' map was that one end pretty much looked the same as the other.

Anyway, I finally completed the Dragonborn expansion for Skyrim and got that out of the way, so I'm ready for 'Fallout 4' and another life sapper. :D

The FoV thing has me worried now aswell, thats the reason I went back to pc gaming tbh, later FPS's on 360 had gotten so ridiculously narrow I was feeling dizzy playing them, surely just a simple tweak though.

I like a big map in Fallout tbh, seeing things off on the horizon like the glow from New Vegas or the Robotron factory was pretty special, if its Skyrim sized thats fine though.

I don't know what the graphic settings are. Would not be surprised if it's max. There's always a few areas where they put the work in to make them presentable, but overall modern Fallout/TES games look pretty low end especially now that they're fully designed around consoles which really ruined NV. The Strip... never forget.

For textures... do you not remember previous games? They had to patch in 'HD' textures to the PC version at a later date fully showing they based the textures on a console release. Even their HD updates left everyone unimpressed. For good textures you pretty much have to wait for mods.

Some quotes from around the stream leak
environment is destroyed in the exact same way as it was shown in the E3 trailer
    it's all scripted
    • streamer keeps plinking supermutants to death with a f'ing pipe pistol and dying
    • HE HAD A MINIGUN THE WHOLE TIME
    • BOSS IS AT 30% HEALTH AND HE PUTS THE MINIGUN AWAY AND PULLS OUT THE PIPE PISTOL AGAIN
    • TAKES 3% SHOTS IN VATS
    • MYSTERIOUS STRANGER SAVES HIM
picture from stream showing Super Mutant pathfinding. (very compressed picture, not useful for graphics critique)

If I find a VOD of the stream I'll post it... I don't know if there is one though.

    update: another user screenshot

I really want to know what graphic setting that is on because that is some real 1992 looking textures they've got going on there.

If the pc version has a .ini file then it should be a simple edit to get the game looking better.

Really hope the same ~ commends are there. When you want to just look around without interruption you can't do better than 'tcai'

Console commands will definitely be there.

A zombie mod would be pretty sweet for this once you complete the main game.

Unconfirmed but where I got all the leaks people were reporting that no .ini or console commands unlocked it. It just might need a mod or update.

I've been looking forward to this for the last few months, but now the time is so near I just can't get properly hyped up.

I know l get it, but I think this is one I'll wait for.

In the meantime I'm going to drool over all the content when it's released and be jealous of the rest of you who buy it.

    It's a conundrum I know.

Lads pardon my ignorance but what's the advantage of console commands in this game?

Google Fallout 3 console commands and see everything you can do. A lot!

A lot of the time, when there are bugs in the quests (particularly before many get patched or mod-fixed) console commands might be the only way to progress those quests, or find lost NPCs, items, etc.

They're like cheat codes. They can be incredibly useful though. I had plenty of problems in previous elder scrolls and fallout games that were solved with console commands.

They are a double edged sword. They are great for getting over bugs in the game but all too tempting to cheat. Can't open that safe, hack that computer, afford that gun ? With a console command you can.

I generally stick to a no console commands except for bugs policy.

    Oh, aye. Bugs only alright.

The game will run fine, that's a very decent mobile card.
