As above, makes things very easy.

Cyanogenmod are certainly working on marshmallow, and I can't see a popular phone like the oneplus being left behind. I don't know will there be an official cyanogen os for it, but I'd bet money on cyanogenmod.

Thinking about buying a the OnePlus One 64GB version to replace my slowly dying Galaxy S3, do you guys think it'd be a good upgrade option? Looking to keep it not too pricey.

That's what I used, works great. The hardest thing is getting the ABS drivers working on your pc..

Once you have unlocked your bootloader and installed a custom recovery, everything is pretty easy. I use a usb an otg adapter most of the time. Starting off, bacon toolkit.

Don't be too concerned what it's named as, most phones contain similar parts. Is it working? You shouldn't be letting it auto update, you should just install the right driver you know works

I tried install from the Google link on it and it said the phone was a Samsung.

It was installing the Samsung driver as the USB in the phone is made by Samsung. Nothing wrong. You need a Samsung driver for ADB

Tried all the methods to install the adb but it tells me it's not when I do the test. It's main troubleshooting tip is that uncheck MTP which the phone doesn't allow.

Just keeps diverting me back to step 3b of the driver config guide. When I try configure adb I'm getting the list of HTC, T-Mobile, Samsung but none work. When I try configure fastboot I'm getting the Marshall London fastboot device in my list. On the 2nd PC now with no joy.

When I plugged a Nexus onto the root toolkit for that it came straight up with Mac address and I just had to hit unlock and then root.

This one just seems shoddy, like not knowing you have to have one of MTP, PTP, or Charge selected at all times. It eveb keeps referring to USB debugging when the developer options are actually different these days.

Once it couldn't auto detect the device and build from the start like the Nexus one does, I knew I was in trouble.

Do you have another Windows pc or laptop, try on that, you seem to be struggling on that one

Anyone thinking of moving to new roms might want to wait a bit, Marshmallow Oneplus roms are already appearing, Doze + the Oneplus battery sounds ideal.

    Ah great, thanks very much.

I'm at the stage where I feel I need to do a factory reset on the phone, but I might just wait for a 6.0 build and do a clean install :)

I just changed from mtp to camera mode (or whatever it was called). Uninstall that driver, use usb deview to remove the other stuff, and you should be ok.

Did you see the various tabs in the steps, you need to install manually, select android device, google etc.
