This VW scandal is doing my nut in, you'd swear they wear using the souls of the recently deceased people to fudge the numbers. Apparently its also going to be the end of diesels and perhaps even cars as we know it  Some of the posts you would think this is After Hours.

It's made far worse than it is in reality, imo. Have you ever seen a new TDI on the road with lots of smoke behind it?

Also this is going to hurt the German economy. I wonder how Audi, Škoda and other VAG brands will get affected.

You'd have to wonder though its after being made into such a big deal that it will surly effect their sales and possibly mean they will have to drop prices on new secondhand cars. As people who weren't loyal to the vw brand will look at other brands.

Was driving behind a 141 Merc CL today in Waterford and the smoke coming out of the exhaust was crazy, it was like a chimney :D

A very simple response from VW would have been to say it was a programming error and recall all 11m vehicles for an ecu update.

A far obvious cheat IMO is the DPF.

Cleaning the neighbours car fcuk that I can't bring myself to clean my own I thought it was a big achievement that I topped up the windscreen fluid reservoir on Friday :pac: ah no fair play you feel great after doing it but it's hard to get the motivation to clean cars during the winter they get dirty again too quickly.

You seem to clean other peoples cars a fair bit. As I remember you have similar posts in the past.

Ya, I get fair disheartened in the winter when it comes to washing cars, they do be just as bad a few days after!

Mainly family. This neighbour is in his 80's so washing the car is the last on his mind. Quick hoover and wash and he's happy. No tyre dressings or any of that. It's a 6 times a year kind of job....mainly for my satisfaction though, he couldn't give a damn if it was done or not.

^ The post above shows exactly why road deaths have decreased over time. 30 years ago that person would have been backwards into a hedge. Her traction control stopped that from happening

A funny thing I found out about my Megane is you can't properly turn of traction in it. In the fact you press the button go to 30 odd kmh and it turns it back on. Car says in manual it's for safety reasons :pac: so you can only really turn it off when stationary at low speed for being stuck in snow mud etc.

Fair play Noccy. With my twice a year washing(of the car), your neighbour would be quare pished off waiting for me to do his.

30 years ago the car probably wouldn't have had enough power to lose traction in the same bend, the road surface was a lot worse and whatever speed Caroline was doing felt a lot faster in the car she had 30 years ago. The traction control only goes some way to balance out the increased risks taken by someone driving a modern car

You never really hear about Golf mk5 1.4 FSIs. They're 88bhp.
I assume they never sold them here?

Forgot to mention this before, but the amount of private bus operators that break the speed limit on motorways is mad! By law minibuses and coaches are limited to 100km/h on motorways. The tacho records all the various speeds done and when. If said tacho is inspected, and the speed has gone over 100km/h the driver is in trouble. We were cruising at 98km/h, yet the vast majority of other buses overtook us. Two or three gained about a meter a minute on us, and were literally one side of us for 5 minutes at one stage, which was kind of pointless.... Others passed us fairly quick so must have been going a good bit faster.
