Well apart from Shane Jennings laughing in delight :pac:

The punditry was good. The main commentator's voice irritates he hell out of me.

Was just about to post a similar comment. He's a terrible commentator. Makes Ryle Nugent sound like a true professional.

Was he the one that kept calling Wigglesworth Wrigglesworth? And talking about activating advantages?

Sorry for asking if it's already been answered - I'm not reading 600 posts to find out - but is the fact that we can't hear the ref mike down to TV3 or is it the feed they get? it's so annoying listening to the gobshíte commentators talking over the 'real' action.

I've no problem hearing the ref. Is it your TV maybe?

I don't think so. more an issue with the ref volume being low vs the crowd noise 'roar' together with the commentary' blindly talking over the ref' when there is something interpreting happening.

I watched the England v Wales game on TV3 as I needed to pausing etc,,,

The commentary is still awful, but now we are hearing phrases like 'advantage' 'occupied the space' 'offside' & 'turnover possession' so I guess we are making small improvements. Still sounds like a soccer match though!

Bad form though saying (at the time) Farrel had kicked 3 from 3 penalties despite one of the '3' being a drop goal.

And also that Biggar was living in the enormous shadow of Halfpenny, and isn't as good a kicking option, followed about 10 minutes later by the fact Biggar is 1 of only 3 players to get to 1,000 points in the Pro12

I think this might down to the ref myself - Barnes in SA vs Samoa was very clear and audible for me, but the ref in Eng vs Wales was not.

Tv3 for last night's match as itv are annoyingly Anglo centric. However the face on woodward. And Inverdale were priceless just after the game :)

    Yes he was...
For me he's exactly what Martin King would be like if he tried commentary!

"And as Farrell lines up his kick here A BIG HELLO to MARY who is watching in Skibereen and is celebrating her 75th birthday this week, and he's hit that poorly and it's just right of the post."

    That's hilarious!!!

Everyone wants it's biggest rivals to lose.

IMO England are our biggest rival in sport.

I'd put Wales as our biggest rivals personally

In my opinion, Wales are our biggest rivals in rugby.

    But anyway, I'm going OT.

What did people think of Toland yesterday?

I forgot to mention the highlight of last night's commentary was when Amos was coming off after popping his shoulder the commentator said "Of course he is a medical student so he'll know exactly what part of his anatomy is affected there." A non medical student wouldn't know it was their arm that was hurt when their arm was hurting.

I'm finding I much prefer TV3's "B" teams that have been covering most of the matches before Cooper et al comes in to the bigger set.

    Same here

    Me too.

Much more relaxed and the host allows the conversation to flow a bit more rather than constantly interrupting it to ask another question.

Anyone else notice most if not all games on TV3 HD seems to be upscaled SD - doesn't seem to be native HD.

What did people think of Toland yesterday?

I thought Toland was very good yesterday. There was a penalty awarded to England in one of the scrums, I thought it was good work from the England pack. But Toland pointed out they would have been disappointed with it as the second row split up; they weren't in control of the situation.

They seem to be saving "real" HD for the bigger matches - England vs Wales was very good quality last night, but this Australia match is all fuzzy in places, lots of compression artefacts.

In the middle of that game.last night , I thought the commentator was going to start doing the top 40 countdown. Atrocious, just use the rugby world cup feed with their commentators.
    Tolland was good though.

If the England/Wales commentator was a Top 40 DJ, this guy doing Aus-Uru seems to be a golf commentator. Makes me want to go back to sleep.

Even Shane Byrne was mocking the TV analysis there.
