F..k sake you would think Ireland was heading into the final match with the build up of TV3 talking to people I never heard of it has turned me right off them now, ITV HD for me from now on 3E is pure rubbish

Anyone else having sound problems with tv3? As in crowd way louder than commentators? Or is it just my setup?
Switched to ITV and the sound seems normal.

Seems to be a common complaint from reading this & the match threads.

Was doing a few things while it was half time and eventually noticed it was the longest half-time ever and the game wasn't coming back. Can't believe I have to watch the second half on a stream so they can talk an hour of **** before we play Romania

    Do you not have 3e?

Ha! He looked like he was dragged through a hedge backwards :D
He was born in Wales but played for England so I guess he had the best of both worlds.

McNamara can't even tell penalties and knock ons apart.

Can anyone explain who this totally random third commentator is? I'm guessing it's someone back in the studio but I don't recognise the voice, they don't introduce him at all, infact it's like the two main commentators don't even realise he's there, and he only appears once every few games. I mean it's fine having studio analysts making a point mid-game but you actually have to mention that that is what's happening otherwise viewers just think it's a mistake.

That alone could sum up TV3's sport broadcasting.

He's Liam Toland(Edited as lads below were right, Conor McNamara is main commentator) and was introduced at the start of each half and is at the stadium.

I do think 3 commentators is too much and they all keep talking over the ref and TMO when they make decisions.

It's Liam Toland you're talking about.

Barnes and Toland discussing the tackle in the air and then..

    "Two number 22s collided."

    Excellent analysis there, Conor.

Seriously? Well either he's saying very little or I'm not paying enough attention because I literally didn't notice him till 5 minutes into the second half

Totally agree though, two commentators is pretty much standard for all sporting events in the world. You have your play-by-play guy and your analysis guy. All three seem to be doing both jobs here and are pretty weak at it.

Barnes is a great analyst, bit of a coup for TV3 having him.

I hope that post is tongue in cheek, Barnes is renowned for being awful, bias and waffle-y.

BT sport have started this 3 person commentary booth, which I can only guess they've taken from the NFL, which works over there as there are so many breaks in play.
It doesn't work here as they just talk shíte (Sky, BT et al) and its incredibly annoying when you want to hear what the referee is saying.

John Inverdale just called the World Cup the "RBS..... the Six..... the..... ok moving on"

I havent seen TV3's coverage yet but this guy is an absolute mess.

Does anyone know what was the reaction on ITV Wales HD after Wales won last night?

Inverdale tried to imply Wilkinson said he was happy with the kick to the corner, JW, pulled him up on it saying "I didnt say that, I said I wouldn't be too unhappy with it". Woodward in fairness called the English as easing off from the 55th minute so gave credit to the Welsh for hanging in there. Gareth Thomas barely kept it together, you could see he was counting down to going off air.

Inverdale looked like someone píssed on his cornflakes, it was glorious.

    Yeah that bit was funny.

But ITV Wales are doing separate coverage for all of their Welsh games. They have their own presenters, their own set and their own analysts for all the Welsh games including last night's game against England.

The look of the set from ITV Wales has a different feel too btw. This set is in adapted form and borrowed from ITV News Wales.

Ah sorry, I didn't see the ITV Wales part of your post.

Trying to watch most of it on ITV as TV3 doesnt offer a HD option to the ordinary punter. But have to record any matches on TV3, Total pain in the hole last week to tape a game and find that the second half was on a different channel.

Commentators are only ok, their law knowledge is very very poor and then to rub salt into the would they persist in talking over the ref who is explaining the decision. Really confuses people as they assume that that the commentators know their stuff when they haven't got a scooby doo.

Overall the whole package is poorly thought out and poorly presented.

To be fair to TV3 I think their coverage has improved greatly this week. I do wish they'd stick to the World Feed commentators though.

In normal circumstances, 3 would indeed be too much, but when the main commentator clearly has a limited knowledge of the game, I think he needs the additional experience to help him through the game!!

I listened to about 20 minutes of each half in the car yesterday on RTÉ, and they had Donal Lenihan & Conor O'Shea co-commentating, and I really like listening to those guys. Lenihan's knowledge of the game is immense.
