That could be correct, my guesstimate was based on him getting 20k... Another few grand and he would break into 110.

He got €21,650. Squeaky bum time.

Surely he'll pick up invites for the next two given the way the year has gone and his position?

He's below the cut line for getting into the next tournament.

He's up to 109th after today's result. I doubt he'll get into any of the next three tournaments. He might get an invite to the Portugal Masters and he'll probably get into the Hong Kong open, but it looks like he may have to go back to Q school again.

That's what I figured. All very close at the bottom of the R2D rankings - only hundreds separating them.

You'd have to figure he'll get an invite to Woburn too ? He seems to be well liked and surely Poulter or one of the lads will get him in............hopefully.

He's at 111 according the the rankings on the European Tour website. About €2,500 off Anders Hansen in 110th. He needs to play at least once over the next few weeks to have a chance to avoid Q school.

Kevin Phelan at 115 - about €6k short.

They didn't have Phelan on the list at all yesterday so they were obviously missing a few more players with Lawrie dropping 2 places.

It will all come down to the last week in Hong Kong for them both.

Looks like there might still be 2 sponsors places not announced for this week yet so he might get lucky yet.

British masters showing 4 invites currently (Paul Dunne has one), so should be another 4 up for grabs.

I would be very surprised if he doesn't play in these.

This weeks field seems to be complete now, Simon Thornton's 146th position in last years race to Dubai has got the 156th spot :)

Of course the irony is that even if you won tour school you still wouldn't get a place in The Dunhill or British Masters with the stronger fields.

Amazingly he has just squeezed into this weeks European Open field this as the last man biggrin.png

Great opportunity for him after playing decent last week.

Just checked the list and couldn't believe my eyes! Well with all of these chances, he really has no excuses.....another week like last week would be VERY useful.

I haven't had a chance to check if many of those near him on the table are playing but presumably some are not. At that end of things, even a few grand can matter hugely so if he can (a) make the weekend and (b) get any kind of decent score he could make it.

But yes, I doubt anyone without a full tour card has ever had as many chances.

Another factor to be taken into account is that some of the players who are currently ahead of him in the Race to Dubai may not compete in the required minimum number of events needed to maintain membership. I think this is 13, although I can't find anything definitive about this other than in relation to the bonus pool, where they recently announced that they would make a special exception for Rory McIlroy and allow him to play only 12. Maybe the general rule is 12 excluding the Dubai World Championship.

There are four players apart from McIlroy who are currently in the top 110, but have played fewer than 10 tournaments. Presumably Louis Oosthuizen and Luke Donald, both currently on 9, will play the required four (or three) tournaments by season's end. It also seems likely that Ian Poulter (8) will play the required 5 (or 4) tournaments in order to remain eligible for next year's Ryder Cup. Patrick Reed (8) is the other player and it seems unlikely he will play another four or five European Tour events this season.

After a bit more searching, I found this on the European Tour website.

A full Member in Categories 1-11 of The European Tour must play 12 tournaments to qualify for DP World Tour Championship, Dubai which by playing in would enable him to reach the minimum number of 13 required to retain full Membership of The European Tour. A player must compete in the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai to receive a payment from The Race to Dubai Bonus Pool and therefore to be eligible to finish Number One and win The Harry Vardon Trophy unless he has a Mitigating Circumstance*. Affiliate and/or Category 15 Members do not have to play a minimum of 12 as they do not have the right to enter tournaments and can only play on invites or qualification.

With him getting in through CAT 20 you can be sure all those around him will have got in assuming they entered.

I think he was about third on the CAT 20 list, so hard to know.......and how would they order that CAT20 list? Anyway it was tight and he's in.

Cat 20 is those that played the 6 rounds at the final stage of Q school but didn't receive their cards. He was high is this CAT because he just missed by 1 shot. Anyone else in CAT 20 wouldn't be anywhere near winning a card, they're not playing on the sponsors exemption card like Peter wink.png

I would nearly guarantee he'll be playing in the Dunhill Links as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,762 ✭✭✭Speak Now

I had a check, everyone ahead of him from 97th to 110th place is playing as you'd expect.

Last year there was 26 sponsors invites for the Dunhill eek.png
Currently 16 so far for this year including Paul Dunne.
Usually a field of 168 but it's a popular event so it'll be invite or nothing.

Did Peter not win the pro am part last year? If he did he should be a shoe in as a sponsor invite

There's a huge cluster of players just outside the top 100 playing this week. This includes 17 of the 20 players between 101st and 120th, as follows:

    101 BENSON, Seve
    102 BROOKS, Daniel
    103 FORD, Matt
    104 JAMIESON, Scott
    105 LUNDBERG, Mikael
    106 HEBERT, Benjamin
    107 NIXON, Matthew
    108 GAUNT, Daniel
    109 OTAEGUI, Adrian
    110 HANSEN, Anders
    111 LAWRIE, Peter
    113 LEE, Craig
    114 LAGERGREN, Joakim
    115 PHELAN, Kevin
    116 KAPUR, Shiv
    119 ESPANA, Edouard
    120 FOSTER, Mark

Watching how they get on will be at least as interesting as watching who wins - assuming ghey are two different contests!

-2 today - I think he would want to do at least as well as that tomorrow to make the cut.

According to RTE just now, he played with borrowed clubs yesterday....I wonder what the story is there.

Another Lowry with airline misplacing clubs no doubt, only got on the start list late as well.

It wasn't misplaced clubs. He wasn't expecting to play and turned up for a meeting. Full story here - http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/golf/peter-lawrie-motoring-despite-late-entry-and-new-clubs-355826.html
