    I just don't understand this:
Props: Cian Healy, Jack McGrath, Mike Ross, Nathan White, Tadhg Furlong

Only two looseheads and one of them is barely fit? What happens if he has a recurrence right before a game, we hope Furlong and White can cover loosehead?

Also completely disagree with bringing Cave instead of a 3rd scrum half. Just seems a bizarre risk to take.

He has played Sundays for his entire career! The guy who posted it on PR was probably just trying to bait a highly strung Ulster fan on the PR MB!!!

If you want to bait an ulster fan, go over to uafc and tell them Fitz will be starting centre at the expense of Jihad and Cave, plus Joe is making him captain :-)

Yes indeed the reasoning for Trimble's potential absence seems to be a wind up, Sorry

Just saw on twitter that the squad has been leaked? Some big calls if true!

    Well played!

Schmidt has opted for six players in the back three, with Trimble and Felix Jones omitted and Tommy Bowe, Dave Kearney, Keith Earls, Luke Fitzgerald, Rob Kearney and Simon Zebo preferred.
That's the good part! Happy with this:)

From planet rugby (Andrew Trimble has reportedly told Schmidt that he has an issue playing on successive Sabbath days. Ireland's last 3 pool games are all Sunday kick offs (as is the likely QF?) and he has told the management team that in all conscience he cannot play consecutive Sundays. Schmidt has apparently told him that he fully respects his decision but he cannot afford to bring him on that basis.

Apparently one of the IRFU blazers was questioning Trimble's contractual obligations to Irish Rugby when this came up in Carton last week and to avoid it all getting ugly, Joe has decided to leave him at home rather than put him in an awkward position.)

That's why Michael Jones was left out of the ABs RWC squad in 1995.

It would be very bizarre if true seeing as he has played on Sunday's before. Unless he's gone through some sort of born again thing. I'm picking it's a wind up.

I remember hearing the questions asked to him about playing on a Sunday. He responded to say it's his job and he has to get on with it

In the article it says they will use Furlong as loosehead cover. That and the 3rd scrumhalf thing seems utterly bizarre and borderline suicidal. Whoever said Schmidt doesnt throw curveballs??!

I could see the logic of Cave even if I wouldn't agree with it.

That prop lineup is absolutely mental though.

    I shall remain sceptical.

    I don't bite.

At this rate I won't believe a word of it until the official announcement, too many choices to call bullshít over.

Whatever Ulstermen said, I firmly believe Earls and Fitz are both good calls from Joe

If it is reprinted in the IT, I reckon we can take it as a done deal.

Doesn't say much for Schmidt's opinion of Michael Bent though.

The 42 are running with the above squad

Without Moore/Bent, White has become Irish 2nd Choice with just 2 caps and 80 minutes played overall... Can't believe it...

I find it incredibly, incredibly difficult to believe that he would only bring two looseheads when one is of questionable fitness.

    And the Indo.

I'll wait till tomorrow. Really can't fathom the prop rumour.

Yeah but what would be Joe (or anyone)'s interest in inducing the journalist toward wrong calls, just for 20 hours...

I'm working that everything is a lie until the official announcement

I'm hoping this "leak" isn't true. In my opinion there isn't really much point in taking Cave as he's not going to offer anything that Earls and Fitzgerald don't already in terms of centre cover. An injury to Henshaw and I would prefer to see either of those two slot in to 12, rather than Cave. I think Trimble would be a better use of that squad spot.

Furlong, rather than Moore or Bent seems odd too. Unless he is a vastly superior scrummager at tight head to Moore or Bent, I can't see the logic.

For me It's either correct or totally made up by the newpapers themselves, but not "leaked".

I actually don't get why they can't just announce it this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Well he's openly spoken very positively of White so no surprise there. He must have been trying out Furlong on the loose head side in training and been happy with it though.

While getting an extra centre is a help, it's another huge risk going with only two scrum-halves, even is Boss is playing poorly.

Maybe England can't handle with Cave, it's a secret weapon to hide the more we can:D

I would question this big time... 2 9s, 1 injured loosie... Wait and see I guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Furlong has played for Ireland at underage at loosehead but this would be a big leap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,003 ✭✭✭✭mfceiling

    I'm calling bull on it.

    No mention of darragh fanning....

Props : Burke-Flynn, Archer, Hagan, Tom Court, Paddy McAlister:D
Experimental front row to play Canada

Boss is clearly years past his best. Marms should have been developed further and put in a position to go to WC

Regarding Furlong over Bent, Keith Wood spoke recently about having a bolter in the squad. He said it really helps with morale to have a young guy in camp.

I was surprised to hear him say that because I assume a professional player would just get on with things, but Wood was firm on the point.

In a marginal call between Bent and Furlong maybe this helped sway Joe.

We have to assume Joe is confident Healy will be available in 3 weeks time.

All assuming the leaked squad is correct.
