Carton house is in fact just one big faraday cage.

This is strangely impressive...5.10pm and not a dicky bird of a half-reliable rumour doing the rounds.

Am I over-reading into this to think that this is an indication of how cohesive and tight this squad is?

I think we may have to wait until 1.00am, when the Irish Times's articles for tomorrow's paper go live on their website. They will almost certainly have the "predicted" squad listed.

    But yes, impressive cohesion.

Just wondering... is there any rule to prevent squad members playing for their clubs after the 31st August and before the WC starts? Say, for instance, Joe wanted some players to get gametime, but hadn't room for them in the squad for the England match this weekend, could some of them play for their province? Or are they restricted to training/playing for their national team once the squads have been selected? Probably a moot point, but the thought struck me just now...

I doubt it's against the rules but I don't see why it would happen.

I'd expect Josh Strauss to play for Glasgow this weekend...

    Nailed it.

Joe was quoted after the game Saturday as saying that his squad selection would be 40% experience-based, 40% form-based and 20% based on what internet randomers said on boards.ie.

So it was 40% Boss 40% Marms and 19.9% Boss, if he just read here:rolleyes::pac:

    Thanks for posting it.

Surely it can't be right though? Healy is already a bit of a doubt, fitness-wise. That'd leave us with one loosehead.

Are we going to have to listen to this throughout the whole WC of how you feel JS should've taken Marmion, honestly it's like a broken record at this stage, just leave it.

No, just every time Boss will get (and waste) a ball.:P

Yeah, three fully fit tightheads and only one fit loosehead would be bizarre.

I doubt it's against the rules but I don't see why it would happen.

Example 1: Player has been injured, but if fit is a definite starter. You'd like him to get 40 minutes of competitive rugby, but not a test game just yet. You name him in the squad but give him a half of a Pro12 game as a final fitness test - if he gets through the 40 mins you keep him, if not you replace him with someone else.

Example 2: You want some squad members to get competitive gametime because you don't want them undercooked in 3 weeks time. But you can only give 23 of them gametime this weekend. You release a few to their clubs this week so they can get that gametime. Players that you may need during the WC, but if they get injured this weekend it's not the end of the world as there are other players on standby that aren't a big drop in standard. The likes of DK, Boss, Kilcoyne, etc.

From planet rugby (Andrew Trimble has reportedly told Schmidt that he has an issue playing on successive Sabbath days. Ireland's last 3 pool games are all Sunday kick offs (as is the likely QF?) and he has told the management team that in all conscience he cannot play consecutive Sundays. Schmidt has apparently told him that he fully respects his decision but he cannot afford to bring him on that basis.

Apparently one of the IRFU blazers was questioning Trimble's contractual obligations to Irish Rugby when this came up in Carton last week and to avoid it all getting ugly, Joe has decided to leave him at home rather than put him in an awkward position.)

Yeah thats the squad the Indo are going with. Madigan third SH, Furlong as third TH and Cave as centre cover. No Trimble, Boss, Moore and only two looseheads.

Given that the fixture list has been known for many many months (if not even longer) I somehow doubt that if this was an issue it's only coming up now....

He's never had an issue playing Sundays before. Bit odd he'd freak out a week before the RWC squad is named.

He has played Sundays for his entire career! The guy who posted it on PR was probably just trying to bait a highly strung Ulster fan on the PR MB!!!
