When I went to Venice there was some sort of Communist party picnic on with a whole square laid out with tables and delicious grub for about 3 euros a plate.

Any major European tourist city is going to be a tourist trap in the vicinity of its attractions. I paid about €18 for two slices of pizza and two bottles of water one street over from the Vatican.

There's a lot to be said for just doing some basic research in advance of travelling. There are so many restaurants out there that are still reasonable/cheap and serve up decent quality food.

I'm off to Madrid in a few weeks for a spell. Really looking forward to it but can see that some spots are just robbing you. I do want to try out the 3 Michelin star place where they actually add ingredients mid-course to bring out different flavours including feeding you a spoonful of some ingredient at one point! But I doubt the missus would go for that. Last time something was unexpectedly shoved into her mouth I slept on the couch.

Grief did I confuse the stand with the terrace?

The south stand is uncovered, but it hardly ever actually rains during matches so I wouldn't worry about it. Of all the games last year I think it only rained during the game once or twice.

So I finally got around to doing my driving test today. I used my dad's car. He assured me everything was in order with NCT etc. Turns out the Tax had expired at the end of July. Instant fail. Whoops. I really should have double checked it myself.

Plus, it's a good excuse to buy more kit, a good rain jacket is far more reliable than the cloud of smug over the terrace.

I know a lad who had that happen, got home and found the valid disc tucked in behind the old one by accident.

I'm sitting in Luton airport and a couple asked to sit at my table (very little space available). Of course I indicated they could.

They immediately started having a heated discussion as gaeilge. Now I don't speak a word of irish (was exempt in school having lived abroad) but I am now in a awkward position where it's possible they have been discussing something extremely personal thinking they're in privacy, having sat beside the only other Irish person in the place, so I'm doing my best to hide my nationality to avoid social embarrassment. I might end up needing to leave entirely.

If you do, just say "Slán libh anois" and give a wink when you're going...

"Dia duit! Leaba bainne agus baile atha cliath", said bucser with his limited Irish vocabulary.

To be fair now, London in general is hardly the safest place to assume no one around you speaks Irish!

I would imagine a Burger King in Luton airport is pretty safe on most days of the week!

In the end I realised my addiction to boards.ie would definitely give me away and so I got up and moved around the corner out of site and sat back down again. Because I'm slick.
