I remember thinking we didn't get the rub of the green but you rarely do when your being beaten so comprehensively.

McQuillan gave Tyrone plenty in 2011. I'd be as paranoid as the next Nordie but we can't complain about that match really.

Strangely enough the last thing on my mind walking out of Croker after last years drubbing from Donegal was McQuillans performance either.

There's a certain irony when lads are being told to dry their eyes about the refs performance then in the next breath whinge about the ref when it suits their own motives - but shur it's only Dublin and they have to be held to more exacting standards

    Quote from Aidan O'Shea
There has been a bit of talk that I have been doing it against lesser opposition,” he reflected.

“Other players around the place are doing it against better opposition. I can do it any day. It doesn’t matter who it is

It's a long time ago and certainly not a game that sticks out in the memory of one where we were hard done by by any means. Well beat on the day by a better team.

I think it was last year he was doing some quiz for RTE about Mayo football and he got feck all answers right. He was pissing himself laughing at how bad he was. I've a lot of time for him.

Nothing beats the canteen story though from the time he was on trial for an afl club :D
When he went on an AFL trial to the Western Bulldogs later that winter, his young Aussie team-mates warned him not to be scoffing sausage rolls because of impending skinfold tests. O'Shea told them "sure you'll burn it off tomorrow, pass me that eclair behind you!"

Aye speaking as a Dub that's had as many bad as good days comng out of Croker that would be my outlook on losses in general too. It makes the grieving process a little quicker too!

Tyrone seemed uncharacteristically naive in that 11 game, Dublin were class that day though.

Like, you must genuinely spend your time talking to simpletons with some of the garbage I've seen you assert as the conventional wisdom in Kerry over the years.

This takes the biscuit, almost deserves a rolleyes smiley.

    Jesus, though crowd tonight.

I have been living here for the best part of 10 years, and your right the place may be full of simpletons.

In light hearted social conversation about football I regularly hear things like, "sure ye always try to play football like ourselves", and " sure yet fans are great" etc.

There is usually little or no sense that Mayo could ever turn around and beat Kerry when the chips are down.

That's the "sympathy" and "a sure yer harmless" stuff I'm talking about.

It's totally different to the suspicion that they hold Tyrone fans, and northern fans on general in, or the dislike they have for the arrogance of Cork fans.

Loving the Aidan O'Shea stuff, show's confidence & a bit between the teeth that he isn't being held in the same regard as other top players - which is foolish tbqh, he's a tremendous athlete & well able to play ball

Would have himself & Dave Moran penned as the main contenders for POTY

I'm aware all of that is obvious but still, I thought the contact on James O'Donoghues face in video format was obvious & that still got argued against :pac:

I must admit that was a fairly intemperate statement on my part. I apologise for it and hope you won't hold it against me.

Somebody on here said last year that Aidan O'Shea he had as much football in him as a bag of cement. It was nonsense comment at the time but I'm glad to see it being made to look foolish right now.

He was a stand out player at minor for his skill level and he seems to be backing it up now.Hopefully he sticks to full forward for the rest of his career as it suits him much more in my opinion, very few players would be able to deal with him in there.

I was gobsmaked that he was allowed to score that goal on Saturday. Never thought Donegal would let him bully them as easily as that but he took the piss. No right to catch the ball let alone turn and bury it surrounded by 2/3 Donegal players.

In fairness it wouldn't be any more insufferable than Donaghy braying on about Joe Brolly

the Donaghy "braying" went on for all of 5 seconds. we will be hearing about Mayos win for 5 decades.

In terms of "cynicism/dirtyness/dark arts/dirty tricks" Tyrone of the Mickey Harte era are by far the worst offenders. They're not the most physically "dirty" because by and large theyre one of the smaller teams, but they make up for it with the sneaky, Knackery behaviour.
    Just a selection of examples
Gooch bitten 03, Gooch eye gouged 05, McGuigan tripping Greg McCartan 04, Philip Jordan getting Marsden sent off 03, the antics on Saturday, the antics in Ballybofey, slagging a minor about his dead father, McMenamin spitting on Kerry players in a league match, the spitting etc in those junior club matches against the Kerry teams, Cavanaghs years of diving, the rugby tackle on McManus, Brian McGuigan getting blindsided by his own county man in a challenge match sustaining an eye injury so bad the surgeon compared it to people who had been beaten with baseball bats.
Thats just a sample count btw.

All the other top teams( and I would consider Monaghan to be the next worst offender, hence lack of sympathy for them, particularly the Hughes brothers!) have been guilty of various similar offences over the years but the total of the rest put together still wouldnt equal Tyrones list of misdemeanours.

What actually sickened me most this year was the sanctimonious whinging all overthe airwaves from Saint Sean and St Peter about the bad language theyve had to listen to from other teams and Peter using his newspaper column to have another whinge about Meath 96 the day Tyrone played Meath.

He did not "punch the ball out of [his] hand" at all! You can have another look I have linked to the incident:

Keep believing what you want to believe.

The non reaction from the Kerry fans sitting just yards away would seem to suggest there was little in it.

I was actually in Mayo at the weekend, watched the game in a pub and was surprised to hear so many negative comments about O'Shea from the locals. Anecdote is not data I know, but I would have thought any supporter would be glad to have him in their team, instead the opinion seemed to be that he was over rated and wasn't going to show up. I'm guessing O'Shea must have whipped them in a club game at some point. :pac:

They also seemed to think Lee Keegan was past it, barstoolers are a strange bunch.

lol, one of the first things you will notice at a Munster final is that the people in red tend to be Cork fans!

I don't think anyone thinks there was much in it in any case.

Everyone in the shot is from Cork, as you can see most of that section was in the wide shot.

I wasn't aware that Mickey Harte was over that minor team when those insults were thrown or was he over the Cookstown team that you mentioned.

It just goes to show how pervasive his cult of playing dirty has become the norm in Tyrone.

Either that or across underage teams and clubs, they all spontaneously decided that spitting, eye gouging, insults about dead fathers, subs benches emptying to join fights, diving, punching and so on was the right way to play the game.

'Barstoolers' in Mayo tend to be very negative from my experience.

Barstoolers in any county are the same, if they had a real interest in the team they would go to the games, the same lads have wonderful opinions on all topics. ;)

they take stick from barstoolers from sept-may most years then they hop back onto the bandwagon for the month of August sometimes to the 3rd week in september

There's a reason they are barstoolers and not 'Cusack Standers', we give too much credit to these folks.

I'm not saying you have to go to games to be a genuine fan, I had a poor attendance record myself this year with Donegal, but I usually take the negative comments with pinches of salt.
