Yes I think the one week turn around has certainly had an affect on Cork.

But that's no ones fault but their own, they had chances to beat Kerry the first day

And how bad is that form ? Kerry must be there for the taking!

Just posting to say I normally groan when I hear of Marty Duffy reffing a game but I thought he had a great game today.

Two big scalps in the guts of a week, Monaghan do Donegal and now Kildare do cork, fair play Kildare!

Yeah I'm shocked to hear myself utter these words but Marty Duffy had a very decent game.

I've slated him enough too, so his performance today should be highlighted. So fair play Marty, keep it up!

I wouldnt go into the Cork GAA discussion thread as the have just fired the manager.

1/5 shots turned over. Massive shock.... who said the game was predictable.

Notwithstanding the weeks turnaround Cork have been a poorly organised side for well on 3 years now. Great win for Kildare nice bit of momentum going into Kerry but the midfield battle against Maher & Moran is a completely different animal altogether. Very good movement from Kildare this evening they'll cause a few problems on that form. .

Kerry nearly always start the year off poorly and improve significantly once August comes around. It's certainly true that this isn't the greatest Kerry team ever but you'd be a fool to underestimate them.

Cork were mentally and physically shattered going into this game while Kildare had a bit of momentum from the qualifiers. Result means nothing really.

Ref had a great game and got nearly all the decisions correct

The short turn around certainly did not help Cork, but we really should have been moving the ball faster, kick passing and fast long ball to the fowards to save the energy, but we did the polar opposite, shocking to see.
Kildare for their part certainly deserved the win. Faster and hungrier they fought for every ball. They will give Kerry a game but I expect Kerry to win without too much difficulty in the end.
An interesting game for the neutral and hopefully Kildare will enjoy their day out v Kerry.

They've failed to do that for the last 6 or 7 years in my opinion.

It's sad to see Colm O'Neill one of the best ball winning full forwards in the game being starved of direct ball.

Very true. I saw too many times himself and o Connor would make runs but Counihan wanted 67 handpasses to be completed before we crossed the half way line.
In Killarney I think 3 years ago, scorching day, our defenders went off at ht in an absolute bog of sweat while Kerry's had hardly worked one up , and it was a draw at ht! Kerry of course ran at us in the second half and we lost.
No point in having fowards if you don't give them the ball!

An aside but if cork had a 6 day turnaround since kerry , if the munster final had been settled first time would the loser have a 13 day break before the kildare game ??

Glad to see Kildare win over Cork. I thought Kerry were to play against who ever won against the Westmeath v Fermanagh match?

Dublin were to avoid Westmeath and Kildare as much as was possible. Kerry were to avoid Cork. So Dublin play Fermanagh and Kerry play Kildare. If Cork had won, Dublin would have played Cork.

Slightly tilting that this was explained about 10 times on the thread in the last week :)
There was no prior rule that Kerry had to play the winner of Westmeath v Fermanagh, all that was specified was that if Westmeath won they would definitely play Kerry. People wrongly extrapolated that to mean the winner of the game would play Kerry. Ditto for Cork v Kildare, Cork would play Dublin but this didn't mean that Kildare would necessarily play Dublin.

Didn't see the game this evening but wasn't shocked to see the scoreline. The vibes coming from Cuthbert after last Saturday screamed that he knew his number was up and that they were open to an ambush this evening. Rather than circling the wagons and saying that we have another game next Saturday and if we win that we will be in the quarter finals where we wanted to be at the start of the year etc. he came across very defeatist after the game last Saturday. Ok its hard to be positive immediately after losing a game you have based your year around but there was still a chance to rescue the situation.

Kildare didn't impress me at all during the league, were lucky to escape the first day against Laois and the knives were out for Jason Ryan but they have racked up some good wins and scores since and put the Dublin defeat behind them. Hopefully they'll give a good account of themselves against Kerry.

Dublin for me are the big losers today. They really could have done with a step up which Cork for all their deficiencies would have provided. Fermanagh will be another 15+ points win for the Dubs at their ease. Having said that Fermanagh deserve credit for the year they have put together so far.

The first few times I saw Paul Cribben play I thought he was useless and had zero football in him but this year he's been excellent and proved me completely wrong and his footballing ability is miles ahead of what I initially thought.Him and Moolick look a great partnership in midfield they have good ball winning ability and both are brilliant athletes and able to cover a huge amount of ground.

Cribbin was a brilliant minor and schools player. He was the star of a St Mary's team who were denied a Hogan Cup by a last minute goal. He spent a few years over in the AFL with Collingwood and it took him a while to readjust to football when he returned in 2013. He missed last year with injury and he's only starting to show what he's capable of now.

I actually believe Fermanagh are a better draw for Dublin than Cork. Dublin must be sick of hammering Cork in QF's and League Semi-Finals and Finals at this stage. At least Fermanagh will bring a gameplan and maybe make Dublin play for a half like Westmeath managed. That has to be better preparation for the bigger teams that lie ahead. Ultimately I only see one outcome and that's a comfortable Dublin win but many facets and aspects of their gameplan will get tested along the way.

Kildare are not the penalty kick for Kerry that some will expect. That good u21 team from 2 years ago are now starting to backbone this senior team minus the few in Australia/USA. Kerry did not look especially impressive in the Cork games and either there's a hangover from last year in which case it will shortly be exposed or Fitzmaurice is preparing them in such a way that they will be at their best come the end of August through to September. I tend to think it's the former.

The way the draw is currently with one side being much stronger than the other, it looks nicely poised for a darkhorse to get to an All-Ireland Final, e.g. Monaghan, Tyrone, Kildare.

That was a huge collapse from Westmeath yesterday.

Going from 5-2 up, where they were in the ascendency and cleaning Fermanagh all around the field, Fermanagh losing two players to black cards, to losing by nine points and only scoring 0-2 in the second half.

true, they were seriously struggling for scores,
Connellam going off injured at half time didn't help either

Ah I see, if Cork Won they being playing Dublin but since it was Kildare, Kildare is playing Kerry. If Westmeath/Fermanagh won they been playing Kerry if Cork won? Two Munster/Leinster teams can't play in the QF is that right? Fair play to Kildare!
