Being fat is self inflicted 99% of the time
    I didn't say it wasn't?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,973 ✭✭✭RayM

    I'm not angry, I'm disgusted.

You seem very defensive of fatties, you must be one

Why would you make that kind of comment about another poster's weight? You're kind of pitiful.

I don't see what you were trying to get at then :confused:

You mentioned cancer can be self inflicted, I noted smoking in my original comment which is the main cause of self inflicted cancers.

long term care of the health issues associated with obesity is definitely costing the health system more than dealing with the drunken spastics that think head butting a moving car is a great idea after a feed of pints

    Is she Obese ?

    No

That's my point. Some fatties have tried to impose a new meaning on the term 'curvy'.

    Exactly was rhetorical really.

You use the word fat and you are a hater and fat - shaming. Thin women are called skinny bi tches. The overweight population seem to think if they say its ok, and are accepted at their shape, its healthy. But its not. Being overweight is bad for you and no amout of calling it curvy and fighting with instagram is going to change that.

But welcome to your future. Were all getting bigger, and more unhealthy. Or should I say curvier? Does that make it ok?

We should revive the /r/fatpeoplehate forum right here, on Boards.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭HairMare

no its not. its little kids waiting to be seen while the cast of love hate are having there heads sown back together because they had a scrap over the last bottle of stella.

obesity is not always self inflicted, and most obesity related diseases happen to the "normal" weighted people too. Genetics have huge part to play. But maybe it doesnt suit ye to hear that.

yes im overweight - but id prefer that too being a miserable fat hating muppet.

are ye afraid we will sit on ye ? or did we turn ye down - repeatedly ???

i don't think it's going to last. the obesity epidemic is very new, really it's not even 50 years old. it's just going to take another generation, maybe two, until people realise the truly horrific effects it is having and then portion control, calorie consciousness and exercise will rear their pretty little heads again.

we just have to hope that when that happens people don't go utterly ridiculous and start demonising sugar and carbohydrates in the same way they demonised eggs and saturated fat for decades.

'It's myy genetics hurr durr'. It's because you eat too much food, get a grip. Stop stuffing your face and do some exercise. "Did we turn you down?" hahaha, as if I'd be seen with a fattie

Why are Instagram bothering with this? All that will happen is that the word "curvy" will start meaning "fat" and will itself become an insult. Wikipedia's entry on the history of the word "imbecile" below illustrates how this works. Plus, people are just using "#curvee" now anyway.
In recent decades, the phrases "mental retardation", "mentally retarded", and "retarded" initially used in a medical manner, are regarded as derogatory and politically incorrect much like moron, imbecile, cretin, dolt and idiot, formerly used as scientific terms in the early 20th century. On October 5, 2010, President of the United States Barack Obama signed Senate Bill 2781, known as "Rosa's Law", which changed references in many Federal statutes that referred to "mental retardation" to refer instead to "intellectual disability".[11]

oh get a life - or did that hurt snuckums feelings ???

people are entitled to be happy in their own skin whether there is more or less of it there. if they want to celebrate themselves as curvy why the hell not.

there is choice involved of course, but we are hurting no one (except the ground we walk on - i thought id get that in there first ...)

The trouble started when industry got in the middle of food production and consumption. People cant cook, dont understand what they are eating, and the scale of food processing means quality is falling and cheap fattening fillers are used to bulk what we eat. Sugar was never widely available until the last century, now it flavours everything. Frosted cereal or a doughnut, anyone? Some sugar laced bolognese maybe?

Calling obesity curvy is accepting the problem instead of tackling it.

Again, Beyonce is curvy, fat people are not.

If you're happy slowly killing yourself, more power to you.

Link to fat gene please. One may mean environmental more lightly to be fat as a person has fat parents. Or parents giving their child to large a portion. Or allowing them to eat crap.

yeah but demonising sugar is just another way of avoiding the real issue, which is that calories are king. maybe i'm just focusing too much on that 'fed up' documentary

modern day food production is a huge issue yeah, and the general level of ignorance around food is depressing. people seem to genuinely believe you have to spend 15 euro on an organic salad bowl if you want to be healthy and stop eating so poorly. they're getting it from both sides, not being taught how to deal with food properly as children and then being bombarded with nutritional hogwash in the media as adults.

it's probably a bit of a perfect storm of several factors, both parents working, processed foods, technological advancements, etc etc but i still think the problem will be short lived. just like the current generation of people in the west.

    Yes.

Producers of food don't want you in the kitchen. In fact, they want you to spend as less time in the kitchen as humanly possible.

Hence all of these "handy" and "helpful" creations such as sauce in a jar (who doesn't know how to make their own white sauce ffs), ready meals, tinned meatballs, stock-pots, instant gravy etc. These food producers want to create a dumb population where no-one even questions how food is made, let alone it's nutritional content.

And for obese people who go by the handle of "curvy", the food producers are winning. Not only is the population becoming fatter but it's also becoming more stupid. Not only are people not even questioning the make-up of their microwave meals, but they're labeling the resulting weight gain as "normal" and "sexy".

I didnt claim there was a fat gene, i said genetic have a part to play
diabetes, heart disease are all genetically linked, yes weight increases risk factors. But skipping meals etc also puts you at a higher risk of diabetes etc. but having gum disease also puts you at a higher risk of heart disease.
Also i know ye'll all start bouncing up and down at this but people have diff bone build/ density. The issue isnt how people are fat - its that they have every right to be. whether ye like it or not...

I think in the vast majority of cases obesity is down to a lack of understanding of food, processed food and a feeling that you can't control your body. Anyone interested in the topic should watch the documentary "fed up". One of the most scream worthy scenes was a mother unpacking her shopping Saying how she can't understand why her son is obese, sure she buys diet soda, low fat cereal and crisps etc. not a piece of real food in sight.

I also think that while Instagram shouldn't be seen to support an unhealthy body image, there is surely a minimum age to sign up. People don't need to be babysat. I'm betting there are more important things they should be tackling on their site? Also interesting to note that Instagram don't seem to have said its anything to do with obesity, rather they are tackling nudity.

    Fcuk.

I wanted to be the 1000th person to point out - to widespread thanks - that eating cakes makes you overweight.

Yeah but dressing it up as being normal and curvy is just wrong. It's unhealthy.
