Claiming Sheehan as MOTM would seem to completely ignore the large influence on the game Kevin O'Driscoll had.

Sheehan did ok but KOD caused Kerry way too much trouble for his opposite number to be MOTM.

    fair point.
the two of them were excellent.
why wasn't KOD marking Sheehan better, in that case?
it's a defenders job to mark, forward's job to score or create scores

    They were both playing midfield.

Besides his score, which was brilliant, I thought Sheehan was poor. Cork won midfield.

Kevin O'Drisoll was the best player on the field on Sunday in my opinion.Amazing that he didn't get nominated for Man of the Match on the Sunday Game.

Interestingly enough Donal og has lost his ability to count out his steps taken this weekend as it doesn't suit his bitter little agenda.

Very slack coverage of the Fermanagh match. A shame as it was probably the result of the weekend.

    Dolan's analysis is very lightweight

What is he on about the black card not working ?

Fair enough its not as effective very late in a game because you can waste time and the forced substitution may have a lesser overall effect, but its still an improvement on what we we had.

Perhaps the rule could be tweaked so that a black card in the last 3 mins or so would mean that you lose the player without being allowed a sub.

No mention of the spare hand either. Maybe the whole Hipster ethos is starting to dull his razor sharp brain...

This topic has to be highlighted now. The inconsistency of referees on the 4 steps rule is mind boggling. David Breen blown yesterday for 6 steps as his arm was being held by a defender at the same time. Usually a ref would give the player in possession the benefit in this case.
Last week we saw Ger Alyward take 10 steps before offloading to TJ who in turn took another 6 steps before scoring a goal.
Today, Padraig Maher (a serial offender) collected a ball unopposed and took 10 steps before clearing to a team mate.
Last weeks football final saw Barry John Keane collect a pass over 30 metres from the Cork goal smack on the sideline, a single hop and a single sole saw him confront the Cork keeper and he fisted a point. So a player was able to cover over 35 metres with a hop and solo without being blown up.
Closer examination of this reveals that the 'bigger' counties get a much better benefit than the weaker counties.
Yesterday also, we saw a Limerick defender blown up for throwing the ball when there was a clear striking action, to add to that, his free hand and hurl were also being held at the time, so in actual fact the free could have gone in his favour. That excellent Cork team of a decade ago were masters of disguising a throw as a handpass and were seldom blown up, as indeed are the present Kilkenny side.

Interesting what Donal had to say about the sliother been the same colour as the posts ,and the sky been the same colour as the posts and the sliother .

And Waterford are also the same colour as the sliother and the posts (and the sky)

The colour of the sliother is irrelevant to an umpire watching it going over the bar (try it some time) It would be of benefit to the tv cameras but not umpires.
Can we start a campaign to introduce green sliothers or would that be in direct conflict to the colour of the grass.;)

Thurles needs Halkeye.! its foolproof. Ask Limerick minor Barry Nash who had a perfect point disallowed in an A.I. semi final 2 years ago and his team lost by a point.

Its not the umpire needs different colours , its the players .

A little bit more room behind the goal would help the umpires more than a change in ball colour. Typical DOC BS.

Strange one with Horgans point/wide in Cork/Clare on Sunday game....surely on close up the sliothar is visible all the time as it passed the near post meaning it was wide....it freeze framed as it passed the post and you could still see the ball....i dunno.

a green ball is used in tennis and look at how many successfully times they are over turned , i was at the game and it did look wide but in the umpire's defense if you lose sight of the ball for a second it makes it harder to judge, it was also raining at the which made it more awkward

Yeah it's ridiculous to say it isn't working and hopefully there won't be pressure to get rid of it because of this idea that being put forward by people in the media that if it is applied any way inconsistently or if it doesn't work 100% well then suddenly its not worthwhile having. It's a mile better tha the previous sitaution and it defineitely has had a positive impact.

Thew only way tro stop those kind of tackles in the last few minutes is to award a free from the 21 whenever they occur. They are done to slow up play and prevent a team from scoring so just award the other team an almost certain score and there is npo incentive to do so.

Kieran McGeeney was again whinging about the tackle and supposed half rules in football last night after Armagh weren't awarded a penalty (and it was the correct diecision not to give a penalty in my opinion).

It really would be nice if some of the pundits pulled him up on this nonsense and pointed out to him to read the rule book instead of whinging about the rules he's know about since he started paying the game.

A 21 yard free would be a great idea actually.
    That would cut it out.

Agree with most of your post but that bit is just wrong, like all sports we just notice the decisions in favour of the big teams more, because we see them more and they are scrutinised more than others as well.

I always said he's hugely over rated

No tactical innovation but he talks the talk I mean I got give him credit for that but again like Kildale proved he's a poor poor manager

exactly hit the offending player/team where it hurts, the scoreboard

I couldn't agree more. I may be biased coming from Fermanagh, but the coverage was extremely disappointing last night. The Fermanagh/Roscommon match was a round further ahead in the qualifiers along with the Kildare/Longford clash, yet the Sunday Game gave far less airtime to these than the likes of Armagh/Galway who haven't even reached that stage in the Championship yet. Very disappointing!

its always the case with games that weren't shown live that day.

    Yes good idea.

Or at the least bring forward the free by 10 or 20 meters

Which is kinda strange in that probably the majority of the viewers would have already watched the live games earlier in the day!

Back in the says before qualifiers there was room for a further highlights show on a Monday night - The Game on Monday. Plenty of games this time of year to justify a similar show being brought back during June and July at least.

That ball in the Cork Clare game looks to me to be clearly wide, as in I can see the ball passing the post.

Donal og says it's a clear point...am I missing something?
