I'm delighted, but something about that was dodgy I have to be honest. Maybe it was the short notice but seeing Mendes tired 30 seconds in didn't add up.

I thought it was stopped too quickly personally, but as for Mendes tiring, that was due to the body shots he was eating.

Referee can't take the time into account. He wasn't protecting himself.

They routinely do though and he was protecting himself. Every single punch he threw on the ground was blocked. Harsh to stop it with 3 seconds left considering it was a "title fight".

You only have to look at tonight's card to see how much damage can be done in 3 seconds.

He wasn't actively defending himself, he had curled up and was covering himself only. The ref is entitled to call a stop to the fight.

Whole thing smacks of a fix. First sign of any trouble for Mendez and fight stopped. The fact there was so little time left in the round adds to the suspicion. Could be wrong but it looked dodgy

    Just stop please.

I was kinda worried he wouldn't be able to handle Mendes' ground game, but he just cruised through that fight.

Amazing performance. Hope he gets his fight against Aldo now and destroys him :)

Team Alpha Male are horrible, but Chad Mendes is an absolute gent.

It wasn't stopped too early...He was practically knocked out with that left. Mcgregor couldn't have caught him with a better shot.

    McGregor has some ****ing chin!

What a joke of a finish.

WWE is more realistic/less obviously set up.

really.. id say more winded from the body kicks..
mcgregor gets stick from people saying he is protected from wrestlers beats a top one and something stinks.

mcgregor looked to me like he was hurting...did well enough on his back escaped those submission attempts but waaaaaay to cocky getting tagged with his hands down...all it takes is one lucky punch

UFC needs McGregor winning. The stoppage was questionable. No need to get all pissy at 5.47am

Whether it's a title fight or not makes no bit of difference, the referees number one priority is to look out for the fighter's safety.

That is a stoppage 100% of the time by any referee worth his salt.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I saw him with more energy after 4 rounds and more punishment against Aldo. Maybe its just having a short camp, but the super low intensity early on didn't look right to me.

He hardly cruised through it, up until the last few seconds I had Chad winning.

standing with aldo for however many rounds will be easier than that fight

What gracious words from Medes. Massive respect for him. Was on top for most of the fight. Unreal turnaround from Conor Inside 30 seconds to finish the fight. I was very worried with Mendes on top!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭clever user name

You could see from the first minute that if Connor could keep it on the feet he would win, nearly every punch was connecting. He is on a different level with his striking. He also hit Mendes with some clean bobyshots that seemed to knock the wind out of him, that's why he looked gassed.

Did we watch the same fight?? He by no means cruised through it! He was losing until the left that took Chad out.

He looked so emotionally spent. Wonder what injuries he had in the build up. Some relief for him, think he needs to disappear for a month somewhere and recharge. Amazing night of fights
