I think ye (like all counties) should concentrate on the small ball game. I see Westmeath gave Limerick a fair aul rattle on Sunday, dodgy goal notwithstanding.

Hurling in Westmeath is concentrated in the North of the county and the county team is centered around 6-7 clubs, they put big money into promoting hurling for a while when Tom Ryan was hurling manager. It just never took off like they hoped it would, the only man from the South of the county that played against Limerick is from the same club as myself Tang, but has to travel 20 miles to Athlone to play his hurling.

Hopefully Westmeath don't fold quite as bad as this...

Just saw this, means nothing much really apart from on this log:
"Mayo fine-tuned their preparations for the Connacht final by defeating Leinster finalists Westmeath in a behind-closed-doors challenge match in Castlebar at the weekend."
    ;):D

certainly means nothing much for where Sam is heading this year...

    ...sadly, not to Donegal :(

From what I saw at the weekend, you can put your house on Dublin in the football.
A less confident vote for Tipperary in the hurling.

Nope, Dublin to underachieve again. I don't mean this in an Dublin bashing sense, just once it comes to the QFs they will need to win three difficult games off the back of not much competition (Sorry B!:o). The others will have had better match-ups by that stage and one of them will beat Dublin.
When watching Donegal hammer Armagh I thought they would defo beat Dublin if they met. Not so sure about Donegal beating Kerry though!
All depends on who meets who en route...

My money's on Dublin this year, definitely the best team, but agree that Leinster does them no good. If Donegal beat Monaghan, then we should get to a semi... But Monaghan in an Ulster final will be very tough. Jim McGuinness reckons Dublin have toughened up in defence... We will see! As for Mayo... !?

Dubs wont win the All Ireland, not bashing them either, they will be found out again when the going gets serious in the quarter or semi finals, a stroll through Leinster is of no use to them.

The Cats will win the hurling, i sat in the Hogan Stand Sunday and watched Richie Hogan put on a hurling masterclass, it was worth the admission alone. Now if a Westmeath man who never hit a sliotar in anger could see that, why couldn't the so called experts on Galways sideline not!!

Cork had a chance to go two points up against Kerry in injury time & bottled it. Two average teams ended up drawing and they're the best in Munster. Rule out that province. Mayo will most likely do well again but would lose in the final even if they played an u10 school team. So they can't win and they're the best in Connacht. Monaghan are in an Ulster final, which says enough in itself about the northern teams this year. That just leaves the Dubs who should coast to an easy Sam Maguire victory ;)

Tell me where I went wrong? :D

    Sunday 5.7.15

Rest, in Croker looking at the Cats win there 70th Leinster Hurling title. As i said earlier, worth the admission alone to watch Richie Hogan play.

    Monday 6.7.15

    Rest.

    Tuesday 7.7.15

    6.37@9.03min/miles in 57mins 38secs

All roads led to St Catherines Park in Lucan for my second Boards date in 5 days! Pacing Mule had kindly agreed to meet me for a few miles, i had 6 miles easy planned and PM decided he would use it as a tempo run. Again as last week, the conversation was non stop from the off and PM's choice of running venue was spot on, lovely place to run with a few sections down along the Liffey & a few hilly sections to test the legs.

Pacing Mule is in good shape and will tear strips off his marathon time come October in DCM, many thanks again P, cracking run and great company.

    Kinnegad 5k - 19.38(6.36, 6.21, 6.08, 5.14)

For those of you that follow this log you may remember me making a remark after i ran a 5k at the back end of May that the next one i would run that i would guarantee a sub 20 time. I'm not going to tell ye i told ye so, cause i'd be telling complete lies. I ran the St Cocas 5k a few Fridays back and ran 21.25, i never mentioned it here cause it was a shocking performance, i wasn't feeling well that week but it was no excuse for me the way i gave up on that race. Some may say i'm talking out of my hoop when i say this, but i feel like i'm letting the people down who take the time out to read my log by running a muck race, if you think thats sh1te thats your opinion. Anyway thats well in the past now.

I love this race, my favourite 5k anywhere, well organised, fast course, big spread of grub after and chip timed. I turned up at the race probably after having on of the worse days of my life, this is not the place to discuss that, but i felt rubbish. Collected the number and drove back down into Kinnegad town and went and done a warm up over the last 2k of the course in reverse, threw in a few strides, but still wasn't feeling the love for it. Got back to the car and threw on the racing singlet, text the misus and told her i was jacking it. She as always talked sense into me and said go run it, you'll feel a million times better.

Made my way to the start and kept to myself, not in the mood for talking and wanted to get my head around the race. After about ten minutes we lined up on the main road, lined up about 4 rows back, plan was to ease into it as ultrapercy had advised on barryoneill's log. Usual start, people flying off at break neck speed over the first km, i knew i'd be seeing most of them again soon enough. The first kilometre and a half was into a stiffish breeze, was picking a few people off here, first km was 4.06 i think and was happy enough with that.

Turned off the main road just after a mile, the breeze was at our back now, i was feeling strong and put a bit of a spurt on here, passed the second km and the watch showed 8.04, again happy with that. Kept motoring and picking targets ahead to pass, passed a few club mates here who wiped the floor with me in Kilcock so i knew i was going reasonably well. 3rd km showed 12.01 on the watch i think, again a quicker km and i still felt strong. Kept ploughing on and had another clubmate in view who i wanted to catch by race end.

The 4th kilometre starts with the only rise in the course and the watch showed 15.58 here, said to myself, put the hurt on for one kilometre and sub 20 will be yours again. I flew on up the rise, i like running hills in any sense and feel strong on them, passed 5-6 runners here who were flagging. Just after 500m to go drew alongside my clubmate, and told him to keep pushing and jump in behind me, he tried for a bit but fell off, he just didn't have it this evening. Came towards main street and the finish and Peter Mooney was out shouting encouragement to runners saying we will be well under 20 just to push. Thats what i did, whatever was left in the tank i emptied it and pushed as hard as i could, flew over the line and stopped the watch at 19.38.

Now my chip time may take a few seconds from me but i dont care, i ran a race i can be happy with this evening and dipped further under 20 mins than i thought i would. I ran 19.47 here last year, its progression at last after two badly executed races. Apologies for the long winded report lads.

Edit: Chip time gives me 19.40, still more than happy.
