Elizabeth O'Brien, an Irish woman on holiday with her two sons in a resort, described how she grabbed her children and ran for their lives when they heard gunfire erupting from one of the hotels.
'We were on the beach, my sons were in the sea and I just got out of the sea. It was about 12 o'clock and I just looked up about 500 metres from me and I saw a (hot air) balloon collapse down, then rapid firing, then I saw two of the people who were going to go up in the balloon start to run towards me - because I thought it was fireworks.
'So, I thought "oh my God, it sounds like gunfire", so I just ran to the sea to my children and grabbed our things and as I was running towards the hotel, the waiters and the security on the beach started saying 'run, run run!' and we just ran to our room, which is like a little bungalow.
'So we are actually trapped in our room.'

“We ran to our room and now we are trapped in our room, the phone here doesn’t work to contact reception . The consul said there was a terrorist attack in the hotel next door, he told me to stay put, my travel agent said to go to the reception to speak to the rep , but I’m afraid so I’m stuck here in the room with my two sons.
“The agent said the attack was isolated to the hotel next door. The consul told me it was a terror attack.
“I just ran as soon as I heard the noise , I just thought of the museum incident a few months ago.”

She mentioned knowing somebody in RTE - possibly old pals. Surprising how much 'news' or drama gets delivered through such channels.

Now that the shooting is over, they're all crowded round the televisions to see if there is any news of their goats or horses in Clondalkin that were alive and well when they left home.

You mean that now that all the shooting is over and the baddies are dead or gone,why in the name of fook does she want to come home Asap. Dod they shoot the sun out of the sky?. Place is as safe as a house now..dooh
