the events happened, in the wake of them, attitudes have had to change and dealing with more minor issues such as Clarkson "fracas" would inevitably be more stringent

I like Evans but regardless, Top Gear will never be the same without the three amigos. Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to the three lads getting their own new show on the road.

Loads of petrol head knowledge and a fair bit of banter between Evans and Martin too I'd say.

I don't think Edd China or Guy Martin, much as I love them, would be a good fit on Top Gear, as the show has been in recent years. They're serious mechanics but I've never seen them as speed freaks.

I'd give my left arm to see the pair of them on Scrapheap Challenge though.

I am, but there's a difference between racing and what the lads on TG did.

I could be wrong and he'd be great at it, but I get the impression from what I've seen that he takes cars and bikes a more seriously than would be usual on TG.

I'd say he'd possibly be good on Top Gear. The problem is you would need subtitles to understand him! :pac:

Perhaps Top Gear should evolve - get beyond the overaged adolescent phase. Although engaging Chris Evans suggests to me that the Beeb don't see things the way I do.

I think Guy Martin would do a great motoring programme.

Guy Martin would be brilliant on Top Gear imo.
Did a great road trip show through India recently and is great in his record breaking attempts show.
Has a good rapport with the camera when presenting and isn't short of a bit of banter.
I'm thinking himself and China would be great for the specialist builds part of the show... electric car, rocket powered mini, cross country mobility scooter would have taken on a different dimension under them.
Much as I enjoyed the old show, I'm really looking forward to the new look Top Gear.

Another Guy Martin fan. I'd love to see him on it but I don't think he's 'professional' enough for the BBC somehow. However you look at Clarkson, Hammond and May, they're very professional about what they do. Guy is Guy. He started a new night job muck spreading last week. That's not even made up.

There is a great opening for a show like that where they could show people in detail about replacing easy stuff like shocks brakes etc in an entertaining way.

Definitely, it's Ed pieces that I watch the show for. It's fascinating to have someone so expert in what he'd doing be able to explain it all in laymans language. Loved the earlier series where he very much focused on how you could approach many of the jobs in your own garage/driveway e.g. using rattle cans to give parts a quick touch-up rather than sending the entire car for a repsray etc.

But very likely speculation. Clarkson with May & Hammond are a huge draw. It would be inconceivable that ITV wouldn't look at signing them up.

I happened stuck on the polar special last night when I got home from work. It's still entertaining. I might even watch the Botswana one tonight.

A change to what? Reviewing Citroen and Kia family hatchbacks?

There have been plenty of other car shows and the majority of them fade away into obscurity. Top Gear has stuck around because people enjoy watching the three middle aged flubbys, other car shows have tried to copy the format but they lack the 3 essential ingredients.. As far as I can tell you didn't even watch top gear, you didn't know what the stigs roll in the show was and even called for him to be dropped. Will you even watch the new one? Have you been avoiding car show for all this time just because you don't like Clarkson?

Have to admit I don't care for Clarkson, but more especially the whiff of fumes and wintergreen attitude he and his fellow presenters emanate.

Fair play to you for batting for him so trenchantly so on that basis I hope his followers get their wish and he comes back on some platform.

I'll be honest with you BB, I don't get why you'd get so worked up about a show. You want this off the air so badly, despite that it remains hugely popular. Surely it's easier to just not watch it and forget it's there

I do believe you are correct Grandpa.

It's not so much about the show ,it's Clarkson and his crew irk me no end.

Popularity of a show is no artistic indicator mind, but having said that I may just follow your advice, may, now;)

I'll take a look at myself.
