Going to be a great 2nd half. Gleeson needs to put the ball into Maurice. Barron needs more composure on the ball. Has cost us a few scores losing the ball. Devine should come on for O Halloran, who hasn't been in it at all. Apart from that all playing well and no reason why we shouldn't win this.

Waterford looked a bit nervous early on their control let them down in the first 25min but started to settle as the half gone on. Waterford let cork of the hook though should have got at least one more goal

A good performance after a bad opening 15-20 minutes. Great to see a goal threat again in our forwards with 3 goals scored and another 3 they could have got if the last pass was right.

Still shouldn't have been 2 points in it with time up, we hit some bad wides of the 12 to 15 wides we had. That's a problem that needs to be sorted out. The system has yet to be fully tested but in a final which you can't complain about.

Well done to ye guys, yeve a wonderful young hurling team, I enjoyed your performance. I think ye are on for something this year, the stickwork and skill is excellent. I think there is every chance of an AI with the squad, there is a maturity in the team helped by Moran and Walsh. It showed I think after the slow start. Even bringing on the likes of Bennett and Curran, ye are going to be there abouts for a long while.

Only unbeaten team in the country - congrats lads. I have to say, huge admiration for McGrath and that panel, this time last year he was a complete skapegoat, but it is clear that Waterford have a game plan and all the players are buying into it. Wouldn't be surprised to see Waterford in Croke Park come September.

Only for Nash being superb for Cork, it could have been a hiding

Well done Waterford. Ye were absolutely brilliant today. :)

Great win today. If we (Waterford) are going to win Munster title or go far in the all ireland we'll have to be more clinical. Tipp or Kilkenny would have scored 6+ goals today against Cork. But we are a young team with plenty of exciting talent on the bench also and i think we are only going to improve over the next few years.

Well done to waterford, 2 big wins now, will be tough to beat in the a Munster final, they remind me of Clare 2013, a young team on a roll...

Hard to tell really. The last few years have seen some very poor Waterford turnouts. While some of this was down to the poor economic situation I believe we aren't the group of superfans we liked to believe in the 2000's but more like all other counties depend on success for a big turnout

The turnout was decent to be fair. Will be a great buzz about the county leading up to the final now. Hopefully it's waterford vs limerick in thurlas.

If it's waterford v tipperary where will it be played because cork is out of the question?

Has to be Gaelic grounds unless we get bought off to play in thurles

    Great win..

Very sporting of Cork supporters coming on here to congratulate us so close to the disappointment of the final whistle.

The cork team may be coming in for a bit of stick at home, but in fairness they have a never say die attitude and were there to the finish, yer season is not over by a long shot.

For Waterford, with so many of those successful minors on the pitch, such temperament, used to winning, hopefully we can drive on but time will tell

Congrats lads. We can have no complaints after that.

You can really see the underage work paying dividends. You've no idea how disheartening it was to see the calibre of subs like Bennett, Devine and Curran come on and sure enough they all made an impact.

Sincerely hope you go on to win Munster now.

Well done Waterford and well done D McGrath, will repeat that I was not happy with the performances last year but the man can do no wrong now. Whatever happens in the year, the man can hold his head up high and no one can ask questions of him. Up the Dèise!

Would I be right in saying that Shane Bennett and Patrick Curran pointed with their first touches in inter county hurling?

    Killarney???
Make an epic Munster final weekend of it!!!

Though fair play to Waterford....at times looked brilliant....every time they get the ball in around midfield to passing to each other at speed they look like scoring

With 3.19 today....it'll put an end to the lazy analysis as Donegal of hurling???

    The Barcelona of hurling :pac:

If we don't win an all Ireland this year....it sure is exciting times ahead at last.....hopefully people will come back out again to support them in the Munster final (seen a few who I know weren't at matches in years today :D)

Great to get that win. A huge boost to follow up the league success and prove it was no fluke. Also for the second time in 3 games we got off to a poor start, but stuck resolutely to the game plan and came through the other side, no panic just cool heads, very impressive. Player wise so many good performances, but special mentions to tadgh De burca, philip Mahoney, brick,Maurice shanahan and of course super sub Shane Bennett.

Cork were v poor though, they should have been a lot further ahead after 20 mins but we can be thankful they weren't.

    Onwards to the Munster final.

A person who was born in 1884 and lived until 1984 saw Waterford beat Cork seven times in the Championship.

A person who was born in 1984 and is still alive today has seen Waterford beat Cork seven times in the Championship.

I know the back door blunts the impact of those stats - we'd probably have done a bit better back in the day if we got second chances - but they illustrate, if ever there was any doubt, that these are the best days to be following Waterford.

Congrats to the Deise. Great win today. Any day ye beat Cork is a good day. Final margin flattered Cork in a big way. Penalty was soft and WD should/could have scored 2/3 more goals. Whatever about tactics, IMO it was sheer heart and will to win that did it for WD today. This was encapsulated by the performance of the WD FB line which held a much vaunted CK FF line. Think the challenge in the Munster final will be stiffer but with a similar effort and more clinical finishing in on goal, there's no reason ye can't do it.

I was dispppointed in the Waterford turn out again today tbh. Vastly outnumbered by at least 3-1 by Cork fans. A poor showing for the league champions.

If tipp win I understand the final will be in limerick. Personally I believe every Munster hurling final should be in thurles

Great performance again. Took us time to settle but even without hurling at all for the first 20 mins we were still only 3 pts behind. So much to be pleased about- the 3 subs contributing 1-3, Maurice.Noel Connors and much more. Barron settled into it after a nervous start and Moran did his usual work of 3 men. Brick's cuteness personified, winning frees and great distribution. The wides again mounted up but I suppose that's a sign of how dominant we were. Cork were poor after their explosive start and I think we'll get tougher examinations as the year progresses but congratulations to Derek McGrath, his management team and squad of players because once again we'll be dining out with the big boys over the summer months. Great feeling.

4 guys that played well today that generally don't get enough credit were Barry Coughlan, Shane Fives, Philip Mahoney and Jake Dillon. They may not be as flamboyant as some of the players around them but did everything again today that was asked of them. They are tough no nonsense players that are vital to how Waterford play.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭O Riain

No one has mentioned it here but I saw a lot of Cork hurleys been thrown at the game today. Is that not a foul (and a cork tradition)?

Turnout wasn't great but we'll always be way outnumbered by cork. They have 3 times the population and a much better economy.

well done waterford i knew ye'd be close the thought occurred to me during the match that it'd be better for us[limk] if cork won but i couldn't countenance shouting for cork v waterford.I obviously hope twill be a limk v waterford final.
No reason why ye can't challenge for the big one this yr and over the next few yrs.Only thing is though cork were very poor and it'll be a lot tougher in mun final against who ever comes thru tipp and limk
