You must be sick of looking at cars at this stage it must be months at this stage you must have great patience. I would be patient in general but when it comes to searching for cars after a week of it I would be well and truly sick of it. If I was in your I would have had a breakdown at this stage :pac: ah sure you seem to be enjoying getting to look at all the different cars and see what a few are like to drive over a few days and you will get the better car if you wait for it.

I'm delighted took four months to find the car auto accords with a decent spec are rare

My mechanic took it out four times today and said he couldn't fault it apart from the rattle we have since identified

Ah! What year? Those yokes interest me but the engine seems to get a bad rep from van drivers.

2011 ah the engines are well sorted by then but 2002-2006 older models should be avoided as the give electrical trouble, window regulators, on 1.5dcimthey gave injector and fuel pump issues. But the megane 3 2009 onwards is a generally very reliable car unfortunately they tend to carry the bad reputation of the older models I think renault are only starting to shake that in very recent years.

Dose the rattle only happen when you are taking off from a standstill? I had an auto Honda that did that and it was a mechanism in the Autobox that needed to be calibrated by Honda.

    New woman in the scene?

Nope, just wooing severals over the past few weeks :D recently it has gotten very expensive, i must be doing something right :p Makes a nice change than sitting sulking at why this is busted or that has stopped working again :D

Le 406 decided to start playing up when starting. It just got slower and slower till it started clicking, then a sudden burst of life again. Initially thinking it was the battery, then a lazy starter seizing. Out with a multimeter, checked everything related to it. Discovered it was that c*nt of a battery terminal. The french have a habit of putting weird stuff into the cars and these screw type terminals are a load of ****.

I may get me big snips out someday and solve that some evening!

No it's on roads with an uneven camber

There are two struts in the roof of the boot and in my car the little clip that keeps them seperate halfway cross us missing so any kink in the road and thy hit off each other

I'll have to make do in the €1080 Peasant section so :pac:

So your paying the government the price of a bangernomic each year..

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/find/cars/for-sale/Ireland/?ranges%5Bprice_from%5D=1000&ranges%5Bprice_to%5D=1000&sort=AGE+DESC&source=ALL&start=30

I wouldn't mind paying that money... But after paying that each year the irish roads are still in SH1T..

    Naw Im just joking...

But it is a nice car :)... Just a dream for me though.. :P

B5 Passat.. Think its 2001 or 2002 (have it parked outside, will check later.)
Only 160k mile on it too, which is low for a diesel in my eyes.

Does anyone have any past experiences with them or know any common problems?

I'd nearly consider buying one but it would kill me to pay the high tax of €673 :(

A 2001 Passat diesel with 160k miles..? Call me sceptical but I'd be very surprised if that was genuine..!
I dont think I'll give out about road tax ever again

My uncle had a Mercedes ML320 last year. €1500 for a years road tax! It came to a stage where he couldnt justify paying that much on road tax. He bought a 151 Merc CLA180 and tax is only €190 for the year. Much more economical too!

How much does thar Merc CLA lose per month in depreciation...?

Im just really holding out for the perfect car to come along :pac: In fairness, I havent been looking at any over the last 2 weeks. The Focus last week was a loaner while the Mondeo was away (ironically, I was previously interested in the Focus!) and the Passat is also a loaner while my fathers jeep is getting serviced (Im insured on my fathers jeep for free so I am now insured on the Passat - which is alos for sale!)

Any car which I have seen so far seem to either be; clocked, had hidden rust, will not pass nct, very high mileage, very expensive, or had some serious faults with it.

Ara, it's all worth it in the end! Has buckets of power for me and still more than a lot of cars on the road, along with being comfortable and well specced, 1080 a year isn't bad for that!

Car has always been serviced in the same garage over the last 10 years. Its last service was exactly a year ago and it has only clocked up 6,000 miles since then. Apparently it was an old man who use to own it and he would only ever get it serviced by this garage (he would come from the far side of Kilkenny to get it done).

I know that the Merc will lose its value fast but the fact of paying such a lump-sum of money on road tax realy gets to me.

Tbh the same thing crossed my mind seems very low mileage for a passat of that age 11k miles a year for a car that back then was only generally bought by reps and people doing high mileage unless that one was sitting up for a while or owned for a long time by people that do very little mileage. I suppose If it was a clean straight cheap car it might not make as much of a difference but chances are it's not that cheap. Obviously a clocked car is not exactly an honest car.

Is the garage that's selling it in kilkenny or tipp ? Main dealer or just a independant garage selling cars.

Tipperary and its an independant garage that sells cars.

I took the car for another spin this evening. Great engine and all that but I dont know if I like it as much now. Its that kind of Turquoise colour and on steelies with the plastic trimmings. It also doesnt have the original Vw radio (has one of those after-market ones, which I strongly hate).

As you can tell, Im very fussy when it comes to choosing a car. Thats why Ive been looking around for weeks and still havent found the right one :D

Seen your ad for the mondeo. Needs far more, close up more pics!!!

Where did you get them alloys out of interest?

Meant to delete that actually. I put it up to check would there be much interest in it (or "testing the waters" as some would say :p). After getting the Timing Belt & Water Pump replaced, along with a full service we're deciding to keep it for another while!

When the car was bought from Barlo Motors those alloys were on another Mondeo and we got them to swap them and put them on ours (red mondeo). Ever since I havent seen a single Ford with them and I cannot find any similar sets online. Numerous people have asked where did we get them, they must be rare :)

But do you ever think "Maybe there is a little to much power here?"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,031 ✭✭✭Bpmull

I don't know of many old lads that would take out original radio to put in aftermarket ones :pac: I suppose it could of been another previous owner that would wreck my head it's only a very rare car that an aftermarket radio looks well in I generally prefer the factory radio just tends to blend in and look better in the car. It will be hard to get a decent spec well minded passat of that age they just tend to make it around the block a few times going from owner to owner.

Funnily enough wheel covers don't bother me in general but then it depends on the car I wouldn't mind them on a passat like that. My dads mk7 golf has them and I think they look find but he is on about buying alloys for it at some stage.

Just had a quick look through the mm4 mondeo brochure there, there are 12 different alloy options for the mondeo, ranging from 16" to 19". I've only ever seen 8 of them in the flesh. Yours is the top right isn't it?

I have a post loading which shows them in the brochure. What ones were on it originally, the 5 y spoke or 24 spoke?

Seems to be them alright! I like the look of the ones under them too.

I think I may have seen similar alloys on a 2008 Mondeo Ecotec on donedeal about a year ago but have never seen any only my own in the flesh.

It's a huawei p6. Despite what you might think, it's actually a really decent phone, almost have it a year, can't fault it, only for the camera. One of the lads has the same phone and the camera is crisp. Just a flaw with my individual phone, whereby it won't auto adjust whatsoever, even when you double tap the screen. I'll survive.

Car looked very like this when we first seen it. (From the front, back is completely different)
