Thats the plan alright. It won't be cheap though as everything is coming from England. Thats the leather interior out the window for a few more weeks now :(

Just get any old motor from Micks Garage, there is a Mighty Car Mods video on how to do it.

I will attempt to put electric windows from the Vento doors into my Golf.

    Sorted already with this

The electric window cards have a slightly different handle for the switches but I can just locate the switches between the two front seats and put a bung in the winder holes

So, while cleaning my car last night I realised that the drivers door mirror is a replacement. The passenger side is metallic black like the rest of the car, but the drivers one is gloss black only. Not massively noticeable but does explain the small ding on the drivers door under the mirror.

Although I've never ever come across the garage in my life, I have heard from some people that he is suppose to be very dodgy. Maybe they got the wrong person, but they said that not too much people are selling cars in the same area of Thurles as he is!

It wouldn't be the right height compared to your car's engine.
It may well go down into it but the level notches wouldn't be correct.

You're stuck with it I'm afraid.

Can I declare that my Astra has been off the road and tax it from this day forward or do I have to sell it to someone?

No you gotta tax it until now and then declare it off!
    Silly idea :)

    Sell it!

My Golf requires some work and it may become unusable for a little while and I don't want to be stuck without a car so it would be great if I can drive the Astra until the Golf is all sorted.

If I "sell" it to, let's say my brother (who is actually without a car right now and interested in buying it off me anyway), could I tax it and transfer my insurance on it?

I should have told them to wrap it in bubble wrap and leave it in the corner of the car park until I get there on Friday :)

The damn loaner is filty dirty but I don't really want to clean it but don't really want to hand it back dirty and say oh thanks for the loaner. I'll see how I feel on tomorrow evening about cleaning it it not dirty on the inside or anything.

Yep, but other places were working out the same if not more and micksgarage don't stock Edge in 4L for some reason.

In a way, it's nice having an engine that takes only 4-5 liters of oil. :P

I'll just rephrase my earlier question, hopefully someone can help me out. Can I tax and insure a car if it's not on my own name?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,306 ✭✭✭Mycroft H

I'm sure you can pay the tax, just get the pin and login. As for the insurance, no, I'd imagine. You've no insurable interest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭Gavman84

Magnatec is 74 in halfords for 8 litres. What different is edge?

Sell to one of your parents etc
    Tax car while with them,
Sell back to you now with tax.

I was thinking about that. It'll add 2 unnecessary owners on the log book though, but I guess that's my only way out, and besides there's only 4 previous owners right now.
