I was thinking about that. It'll add 2 unnecessary owners on the log book though, but I guess that's my only way out, and besides there's only 4 previous owners right now.

Its only an Astra man I wouldn't worry.
No offence but when its that age nobody would pay you any more for that kind of thing.

    True.

    No offence taken. I know it's far from a near-classic E36. ;)

Ah now I wouldn't care about adding owners to this at all either.
I know its nothing to look at but for the money you can't have more fun, I swear :)

5w-40 Edge I'm getting for 90 euro for 8 litres, local motor factors

The local places either didn't stock it or was too expensive as I have that AXA card jobby for 10% off.

What do you mean? I think the E36's are great looking cars.

They are no doubt, I love it, but to most its a 16yr old, high consumption car now :)

It's not a modern, smothered diesel, where its mpg is higher than the top speed.

I have a reliable 170bhp daily, awesome sound on full whack and the ability to drift with a touch of weight transfer. What more could you want :)

If we end up at a meet I'll give you a spin to see what you think, you will have to buy one then though :)

In a way, it's nice having an engine that takes only 4-5 liters of oil. :P

I'll just rephrase my earlier question, hopefully someone can help me out. Can I tax and insure a car if it's not on my own name?

Not without insurable interest or if it already has a policy from either a company or another third party private

Magnatec is 74 in halfords for 8 litres. What different is edge?

Yea just spotted that, seems micksgarage don't have the proper A1 spec either

Magnatec would only meet half the specs of edge which is a far superior oil with better quality raw materials to produce a better quality oil. For example magnatec wouldn't meet vw507 spec edge would and edge is low ash suitable for dpf systems magnatec is fine for older diesels and petrol not much newer stuff you'd get away with using it in.

Sell to one of your parents etc
    Tax car while with them,
Sell back to you now with tax.

    One last question about this.

What if I tax it after I sell it back to myself? Would that make any difference?

Ah cool cheers. I think it is fine for Focus anyway as its not a dirty diesel! :pac: ford is mentioned on magnatec not edge too not that probably makes a difference.

I think they can get you then, get you to pay arrears is what I've heard happening!

Everything is twisty near me :)
That would be my first Alfa!
    Possible turning point :)

Still cant understand why you'd pay 55 euro for 4 litres of edge when you can go to the main dealer and get it far cheaper. 5 litres of elf gold 5 w 30 is only around 40 quid. Edge might be better but you can service the car much more often using cheaper equivalents. You don't have to drop spec at all either. Just change brand.

+1 for Total/elf Oils. Total Quartz is the recommend oil for the picky 1.6hdI and it's actually good value.

Just looking there the quartz 5w30(vw507 spec) is 40 euro for 5 litres on micks garage. http://www.micksgarage.com/proddetails.aspx?pid=1214863

16/l edge vs 8/litre for quartz. Same spec. Edge might be good but not a hope is it twice as good!

If I were you supergurrier I switch to quartz and use the savings to shorten your service interval. The shorter the better for a turbo car.

Hopefully I'll have a few bits done on the Golf in time for the next week so I actually have something presentable.

I may aswell be looking at the wall when it comes to oil! What's shell branded stuff like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Have the option of acquiring a mk4 2004 gttdi golf 130 3 door for 2500. Friend bought it damaged (front wishbone and hub) for 2k (seller was oblivious that so little was wrong hence selling it for 2k). Car stands my mate 2.5k atm, so he'd sell it to me for that. I'd nearly get that for the focus too. Has 206k genuine miles though, whereas mine has 142. Hmm.... focus is going this time next year, regardless, so will probably just hold out.

Thats far too British for us, I would say a pack of Tayto crisps and a cadet cola will do.

Total/Elf is OEM oil for Citroen, Peugeot etc. If it's good enough for them...

What is the likely best brand/model for 165/70 R14 tyres????

Say in the well known brands - the continentals/bridgestone/Michelin - or in the midrange type tyres????

The boards one was a can of carnation condensed milk.

I need 2 new tyres on the front, the back 2 are 90% thread. So what happens... I get a puncture on the back left :(

Was beyond a simple repair so had to put a cheap one on the back until I can afford a full set of F1s. Depressing.

Im getting ready to move house soon enough and I've a mark 5 golf left hand side headlamp. It's got a tiny crack in the glass at the base but it's not letting in water or anything. Free to a good home if anybody wants it.

Grrrrrrrrr. Does anyone know a garage around Rathfarnham/Terenure that would be willing to reattach a piece of under tray that snagged reversing out of the driveway. It's hanging down and driving me nucking futs
