Steer away from Texas and Russia, Islamic extremists. Stick to the soft underbelly of Western Europe.

"They're human beings" has to be one of the lamest, empty, last resorts of an argument in this context. They're homosapiens like us. Well so fucking what ?

Some things, very few people would even attempt to defend.
Having said that, it would not have been the end of the world if the nutbags inside were thinned a bit. Maybe the cops should have held back for a few mins.

    Please don't hit me.

Kind of pointlessly provocative event mind, lets all have an event to display the controversial cartoons that have caused mayhem in the past and while we are at it we'll try and draw some more. Its right up there with the Westborough Baptists for most stupid application of the first amendment. I'd say the attendees were a lovely bunch.

Nonsense. No cartoon has ever caused mayhem. People rioting, burning, shooting & stabbing those they disagree with have caused mayhem. If you dislike a cartoon, novel, film etc & pick up a weapon in response then the responsibility for the consequences are with you, not the cartoonist, novelist or filmmaker. Regardless of what one may think of Geller et al the only doors at which blame should be left for this incident are those of the two gunmen & anyone who incited them to attack the event. Freedom of speech means nothing unless it includes the right to say things which others may choose to take offense at.

So what do you do, uphold the amendment on the right to bear arms but not the one on free speech? How could America stand over censoring something like that and still call themselves the defenders of free speech. You can't have it both ways regardless of how distasteful a subject might be.

Unless this is sarcasm the username is certainly apt.

Some followers of Islam (and other religions too) are extremely sensitive about their beliefs !

Its almost as if a little boy said the Emperor has no clothes and then their whole belief is in danger of collapsing.

You would think that if you were truly confident in your beliefs then some lack of respect or insult would not have such over the top reactions.

Just because something is provocative doesn't mean that one needs to let oneself be provoked.

A rational response to this event would be "you're drawing cartoons of mohammed? Big deal, it doesn't affect me", not "Allah Akbar, kill kill kill!"

You think these two gunman care about human life?

And the world is a better place for their passing.

Although they are probably having a great time with all those virgins waiting for them

Nonsense. The winning cartoon sums it up fairly well.

Why would they have a cartoon drawing competition about any religion?
Not condoning the shooters , but it's provocative and pointless.

So next is a competition for the best cartoon of a handicapped child?

Common sense needs to prevail at some point

Yeah, but children with disabilities actually exist

I'm not sure that would lead to parents of disabled kids trying to murder as many people as they can

If there were countries where the followers of disabled children were using them as a reason to stone people whose lifestyle they disapproved of, then yeah, absolutely

But there aren't, so that's a stupid comparison.
