I think it was Diarmuid O'Sullivan (Cloyne!!!!)who said Harty hurling was more intense than county minor.
Apart from that, your comment above is just plain silly.

Harry cup hurling is more like exhibition hurling. Inter county minor is miles ahead of it.

I know they have played a few challenge games against the big two but playing LAOIS a few weeks ago while Tipp nd KK belted the $h!t outa one another in Dr Morris park seems baffling to me!!!

Any idea of the score in that challenge match Froggyno11? Laois u16's beat Cork last year by 5 points I think in a tough group containing Tipp and Kilkenny also, so the idea of a challenge match at minor this year isn't totally off the wall.

Strong football team and subs heading north for a stress free weekend.
They have another bonding exercise and hopefully McIvor will throw up his biggest blanket and make it well
nigh impossible to score other than from outfield.
I expect Dorman, Kelly, Collins, O Rourke and Collins to shoot for scores every chance they get as the inside forwards
would seem unlikely to get much space, if any.
All eyes will be on Omagh where Mickey Harte could well be in last chance saloon and Kerry will dance on his grave if
they can. I have a feeling that Mickey will pull one last trick over the mighty green & gold and send the statistics lads running for their calculators to see who joins Derry in Div.2.

I'm intrigued by your description of Harty as 'exhibition hurling' Smith. Could you elaborate in what you mean by this ?

Looking forward to game, I've an interest in both camps but against each other I'd choose blood and bandage

It would appear Cork have strenght and depth this year esp with forwards but anything can happen come championship - Cork badly need a title at this level

Thanks for that Hurleratheart, I'd be hoping our lads can have a decent run this year, there are some promising players at minor grade in the county.

if Tyrone win by 2 pts Kerry go down (unless Donegal beat Mayo by 16 or Mayo beat Donegal by 21 both unlikely- if the DonegalvMayo game is a draw then any Tyrone win would send Kerry down on head to head). A one point defeat would keep Kerry above Tyrone in scoring difference. It would be their heavy defeat to Cork that would actually send Kerry down as most of the games in the league have been close. I think Kerry like Kilkenny will escape the drop.

Good to see some of the Fringe players getting a run alongside of the established players (MacDonnell, O sullivan etc). Have seen all of the starting 15 at some stage bar Ryan at centre back, he doesn't stick out for me. Any thoughts on what his hurling is like? its clear management are looking for another CB in case something happens to Ellis. with Burke starting there v Wexford and now Ryan.
Good to see John Cronin getting a run. He's a strong hurler and could add the muscle Cork need in the forwards. some young lads among the subs in Meade and lee is good to see too. Laois have made great strides in the last few years and this could be a good run out for Cork.

Cork are 6\4 to beat Derry. I thought they be favourites. Am I missing something ?

Yes we don't have win or kill ourselfs but at same time team should be relaxed and that freedom alone should help Cork even with few names missing.

Was thinking the same but if O'Neill and Hurley are not available and the pressure is off its hard to say how they will perform scoring wise.

Going up north with nothing to play for 6/4 is about right. Still could win but that price is about right

From the team selected it looks very much like a game the management aren't all that concerned with.

The management have benched/rested Colm O'Neil and Brian Hurley while Donnacha O'Connor is injured. Those 3 have accounted for 4-53 out of Cork's 9-78 in the league.

Throw in the fact that Cork have only named 7 subs ans it's really hard to shake the notion that the management are not that concerned by the result.

Compare that to Derry playing at home, who while they are already relegated, will be desperate to get any sort of positive result heading into the Ulster championship, given their form in the 6 league matches to date has been LDLLLL and the backlash the face from the fallout from the Dublin game.

The traders made a balls up ,Cork controlling it so far, you'd never know could be some coup to fall apart second half or something these last day meaningless league games are dodgy

Derry technically played at home today but they have very little experience playing games in that new Owenbeg venue, it is their training ground but have only played about 3 games there I think

Is it fair to say that minor team is strong up front but less sure of the backs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭willietherock

A lot of hope riding on this minor team. By all accounts the underage sides coming up aren't as strong. Seems a v promising set of forwards. Limerick shafted their whole management set up, including Jerry Wallace, which gives Cork a big experience advantage on the line.

Eh I don't remember this group being all that special. The group two years back was heavily hyped up however, and didn't deliver.
