    One ecosystem remember?

If it gets rid of 'xbox bing' I'll be delighted. just feel like a dope saying it.

Also, the speech recognition on searches seems to have gotten worse lately - no way should it be mixing up "ori and the blind forest" with "forza horizon"

what happens if you 'bing' google?

I've started to notice that aswell , takes a few attempts to say record that etc. I'm wondering if it's the kinect thing being freed up and not being fully turned on in some games? Like will have the white logo always on but the red lights in the middle off in some titles. Like it's sleeping or something

Apparently game streaming to Windows 10 is coming in the April preview, if the picture of the latest surveys is correct.

Ugggghhh no way that will test well on a VM, I'll be quad booting my desktop at this stage :s

I've placed Windows 10 onto Virtual box but its really slow. I can't seem to speed it up. I may have to create another boot also.

It's crap in a VM, stick it on a real PC and it flys along, far quicker than 7. On my SSD PC it boots nearly instantly.
Been running Win 10 since September. Great so far - looking to streaming xbox to my laptop / tablet (had some builders in recently and the sitting room was off-limits. Would've been great to be able to stream the games then).

It's ok in VM on my box for general stuff but as soon as I launch an app it's a memory hog , how much ram have you physically got and whats assigned to the VM running windows 10 ? 4GB out of 16 GB installed ram on mine assigned to it and it's only ok using VMware player.... which is a pain in the you know what on windows 8 , neither they or virtualbox sorted the issue that was identified in the beta of win 8 that slowed the shut down / sleep of a win 8/8.1 pc down if they were installed .... 10 minute sleep/shutdown for me

If streaming is coming i'll be adding a new quadboot to the triple boot I have at the minute (need different os for study etc and have to perform well)

I have given it 4 out of 8 GB. I have given it more and less but it still gives the same result. Another boot option should do the trick.

I wonder does that mean that the April update will be the one that swaps out the Windows 8 Kernel with the Windows 10 one on the Xbox One. They seemed to say that this feature would require Windows 10 on both devices to work.

(Although maybe I misunderstood the GDC video showing the feature)

wont see that happening for months.

1504 update is out now on the preview, looks like more party / chat improvements, seeing a lot of weirdness with it lately while I have it snapped with errors frequently showing but chat still continuing to work ok.

Two updates this month as well. Most likely, they are going to announce new features at Build, almost certainly Windows 10 related.

scrict and moderate is now relayed through a server to remove issues.

win 10 builds are months away from xbone.

I'm not a tech head - but does this mean the days of party chat breaking because someones NAT type being different is over?

and will it do similar for matchmaking with a party in a similar situation?
and finally,:) will it introduce lag by relaying data through another server?

Currently the OPEN party member is chosen as the host and if you are all strict/moderate you can have issues connecting to each other. The new stuff just gets relayed through a server so you can all chat to each other. There should be no more lag than you'd get chatting to each other as it is now.

Do you mean game matchmaking? This is just for party, nothing else.

Nice to get the inside track, thanks!

I've found that the patch notes are kinda vague in some cases, particularly around the party chat changes, so it's nice to hear about it from someone who's got experience of the backend.

You can find most of this out publicly, or at least its a fair guess thats how it works etc.

yeah, I meant for matchmaking as well. I vaguely remember it being touted at the consoles launch announcement that the days of NAT troubles were over, but that obviously has proved not to be the case.

Its already in place for games hosted by azure. Individual titles that do their own hosting need to sort out NAT issues themselves.

Would it be safe to assume that the number of titles using the azure servers is only going to grow in the future? - particularly with the consolidation of everything to windows 10? The reason i ask, is because you can really notice the difference between, say titanfall and cod ghosts.

Its a good service but its down to the individual game houses, if they have invested in servers for multi-platform games then they are less likely to fork out more to hook into and use azure.

I would have assumed Azure was platform agnostic surely?

Yup, open to all and any. Game houses still have their own platforms though.

What's the benefit of rolling your own platform? Is it just cost, or are there other benefits of controlling your platform?

Its more than likely a lot more expensive running your own tbh, but you can optimise performance with your services etc and maintain control over downtime, allocations etc.

It's actually probably not that much more expensive, one of the main benefits of cloud services is on demand scalability. I'm not familiar with MS services model but if it's anything like Amazon you pay for what you use and can scale up resources during busy periods and down during quite ones so cost likely would balance out the bandwidth used is likely where they'll sting you on costs. Plus you aren't stuck with racks of severs that go under utilised 90% of the time, which is actually where amazon and google etc's cloud services partially came out of. They had massive data centers with loads of idle hardware that they put to use providing services like Prime and AWS.

I said a private cloud is more expensive. Amazon, azure, rack space etc are cheaper.

When achievements pop it tells you what they were for now, no more snapping the app mid game.

That is great, snapping to achievements can take a fûcking age to load. Much handier.
