Seems like I spoke too soon

Seems like the problem isn't getting the newest update, it's actually having the newest update.

EDIT: Hard reset sorted this out for me, still have the latest version. Stability might not be great with this one, plenty of people are running into this it seems.

If you've got a choice, definitely don't update yet. The Xbox One checks to see if there's a new update periodically, which triggers the fail update dialog, which knocks the console off Live.

The work around is to "Skip and Go Offline", then sign back in, but that'll only last until it checks again.

From your earlier post, it sounds like you've already updated, and are now having this problem too. You can check in settings, the version should be in System>Console Info, the latest (broken) one is "6.2.12125.0 (xbl_rel_1502.150130-2200) fre"

I haven't updated as it just keeps failing so I'm not going to do it I can deal with the little annoyance of having to sign back in

Weird. Wonder is an issue with their servers then, as that's exactly the problem with this version(Imaginary update fails, causes you to drop out of Live.

If it's a problem on their servers, it could be fixed any time today/tonight. If it's a problem with the OS itself, then it'll take a fair bit longer.

New preview update that sorts out the issues I was experiencing above is out.

A fix to address an issue where if the party app experiences a crash in certain situations, the party session is terminated.
The Party app will no longer only show an “X” icon for users entering a party on the same console as another user already connected.
Several users may have experienced an issue last night/this morning where they received a “There was a problem with the update” error. This has been resolved.

2gb update for that? at this stage the updates alone will take up the 500gb (well 300gb) :L

I'm pretty sure all the updates don't add up. Old ones are deleted once new ones are installed in most cases, afaik.

Yes exactly, the portion of the hdd used is the portion reserved for the system and not the user section where you would install games etc. which is why out off the box you don't have 500gb of space.

Huh. They sneakily updated the "Report a Problem" function in the preview, it's now accessed by holding down the Xbox button, as you would to turn off the console.

It actually makes reporting a problem much less of a chore.

Yeah been there a week or 2 at least because I reported a problem and it told me to hold down guide button etc. takes screenshot.

Now, just bring that feature in to use for actual screenshots for personal use and I'll be happy

Yeah, I saw that "Give Feedback" button during the last week or so, but when I went to report a problem the other day, it didn't say to use that method in the app.

Pretty sure that they using A/B testing, which must be hell on the guys in the background! The data that they get out of it must be phenomenal though.

Actually wondering earlier when was the last time I opened a message on the one and not on my phone or computer. Lack of a chat pad and interface being crap for messages really has forced me to 'second screen' for those.

Windows 10 interface looks even better , i know there are those including me to a degree who will say the One's interface should be just as good as smartglass but to be honest if they could push some stuff totally onto second screens that would lighten the lag on the dash for other things like party etc I'd be happy.

One of the other things I submitted a request a feature for was the one to be properly like a chromecast from windows and mobile devices via smartglass.

Anyone one who has used the 'play to' functionality in windows 8 knows it has great potential but falls down in many areas but could be so much better.

Its been available like this for a couple months at least, its logs a bug directly into the db and includes nw telemetry, screenshots and the last 30 seconds of audio. Yes, audio

Just updated the software. My home screen background image won't work now. My settings say a custom achievement image is set but the background behind the tiles is black. Also, how do I install the transparent tiles? Before the update, my background image worked perfectly.

The transparent tiles where automatic for me. I didn't turn anything on or off just updated and there they were. Might mess about with it, see if I can change the opacity.

Have you tried setting the background image again?

Sorry if these are things you've already tried, but have you tried it with no background, and then tried it with a background? Have you tried setting backgrounds from different places, i.e. from an achievement, and then from a usb stick, etc?

Has anyone tried this yet?

I know when you double-tap the xbox button it captures the screenshot.
But, when you say "Xbox, take a screenshot" surely it might have missed the moment?
