I have done more than a module in economics as you well know.

On another thread I told you it was two modules (out of eight) in one of my masters' degrees, and I used much of it in the thesis I wrote for that. It also formed a substantive part of my first primary degree. Nowadays, it would probably be enough to allow me to call myself an economist but in those days we didn't have a credit system that would allow that.

Don't let that stop your ridiculous personal attacks though.
Truly, what chance do the OECD have in the face of such towering intellect. Call yourself an expert economist then why don't you.
(I'll still go with the OECD's opinion thanks).

I claim it? Sorry, in case you hadn't noticed, it's the OECD that's claiming it. Apologies now if I take their word for it over yours. I'm just like that with respected multinational research bodies and randomers on the internet.

Remember the OECD review of the PS here? They reckoned we'd one of the best in the world - were they right?

    Article printed 2014.
"Irish specialists earned an average €171,000 last year,"
Now, you do the math. What year is that?

Let's see now, is that attack, ridicule or divert? Hmmm, must be divert. Let's go with divert.

Just as an aside then - if the OECD is so wonderful do you accept their conclusion that the Irish tax system is the most progressive in Europe?

And that bring the case what's the rationale for SF's proposal to penalise hard work and success by extremely high marginal rates of tax?

Or is your endorsement of the OECD selective?
    Attack. Ridicule. Divert.
What has this to do with the health service?

So that's a no on the data then?

It must be very annoying seeing your own tactics used against you! ;)

Poor dears. Only €127,000. Just as well it's nothing to do with the money. (unless you are calling Irish doctors liars). Are these the same doctors moaning about the OECD research? You know, the liar ones?

Well that's an agreement that it's whataboutery anyway. Funny you didn't feel the need to point this out yourself. Biased much?

That people are quite happy to accept and dismiss organisations like the OECD on a whim.

For example when the OECD say the Government's Action Plan for Jobs is working - do you accept their report as readily?

Sorry the tone of incredulity was not properly conveyed.

I'm not interested in articles, it's the data I'd like to see? You've been quick enough to disparage the publishing of articles by others, perhaps it would be better if you could just post up a link to the data.

    Anyone can write an article.

You have posted a link to a newspaper report of the OECD report, you haven't actually posted a link to the OECD report itself.

You see, non-experts like journalists like to sensationalise aspects of OECD reports without understanding the full report and the full details. If you have a link to the report itself, I might be able to help you out in understanding it.

Plus a 23% VAT rate, dodgy VRT rates on top of the VAT on cars, bills for schoolbooks etc every year (which most other countries don't have), €50+ euros to see a GP (free in the UK), some of the most expensive prescription drug prices in the EU (capped at around £7 in the UK) etc etc etc....
And then people still wonder why we have to pay our doctors so much to stick around and still have to hire a third of them from abroad. Hard to see them sticking around when Sinn Fein slashes their pay by more than a third...

The OECD know nothing- they didn't even notice that no jobs were being created for people not in the labour force.

They're leaving in their droves under FG according to yourself and 33% of them have to be hired from abroad.

    You think that's about money?

That's about having a dysfunctional HSE running the show.

Articles in newspapers have inevitable gone through various filters - first the press team will write the press release (designed to get publicity), then the journo will write the article (basically re-write the press release) before the sub-editor does their thing.

If the data can be put up we get the full context.

I assume from your posting here you have access to the internet?
Don't think I need your expert help if you can't locate an OECD publication TBH.

I think it's about a number of things. Money is a big one though.

Slashing their pay - as SF plan - isn't exactly going to make them stick around/come her to work.

The current health service minus lots of doctors = a lot worse health service

Ah JFC, I don't expect people to point out their own biases! Just noting you're happy to skip whataboutery from one side and dive in with laughable failed ridicule when I point it out in others.

Is "lack of self awareness" one of those filters you're talking about?
