Reading on the old twitter thingy that Dublin player from 1995 had his All Ireland medal stolen when his home was robbed over the weekend. That must be killing him.

Maybe wee Peter took it off him, just as Dublin took it off us!!!

All joking aside, hope the perps are caught, and the precious medal returned. Must be gutting for the fella.

What a game and what a performance !!! albeit for the last 10 mins, I mean what team wouldn't panic up 12 points versus Kilkenny in their own back yard with 10 mins to go..... its unchartered territory as far as us Dubs are concerned !! I thought we were hurling that well the first 25 mins we would have beat them with 15v15 tbh.

The whole team played out of their skin bar the last 10 mins, David Treacy fulfilled Paul Ryans position and more, we were questioning what Paul had done to be dropped before the game but the answer turns out to be nothing....Treacy has just been on song in training and we just cant put 16 players out
unfortunately :D Excellent from play and the placed ball today !!

Half forward line Trollier and Danny both had an excellent game, I think any player would have done what Danny done in the last 2 mins to slow the play down and kill the momentum KK were building up. Colm Cronin kept quiet today but he show'd enough last week what he can do when he gets going.

Shane Durkin was man of the match for me absolutely dominated midfield today. First to every ball and first to all the secondary ball around midfield, laid off some great ball around the middle as well (most notably for Kelly's point first half)

What can you say about Peter Kelly what a man 2nd behind Durkin for man of the match for me and not much in it at all, dominated the half back line great to have someone in there so confident who's great under the pressure of a high ball, I think he misplaced only 1 ball all day. Keaney and Crummey also had a good games I thought they lost their way a bit in the second half when KK went down to 13 but they weren't the only ones.

The full back line were fairly good apart from that messing about for the first goal we conceded definitely something to work on training .

We have such a great squad atm and a great manager to go with it its a good time to be a Dublin hurling fan, Dublin to beat Kilkenny by 5 points in Nowlan Park.. say that 10 years ago and you would of been getting signed into the psychiatric ward in St James Hospital :pac:

    Great win for Dublin hurling.
The sophistication and style of play was very high, even for this time of year.
I think all of the main changes in the spine of the team are starting to work. Rushe might take a bit longer but he requires constant attention which allows Treacy and others to work off.

Dublin showed other counties how best to beat Kilkenny.

1: Use an effective man marker on Richie Hogan: He is almost unmarkable but Cian O'Callaghan was the right man - low centre of gravity, sticky and awkward.
2: Play wide: Kilkenny love to funnel play and create mauls as they are masters at winning them and use their physical side to somehow coming out with the ball, the Dublin forwards and Mark Schutte in particular used the wing very effectively and took his scores from out there
3: Pure intensity: Match them at their own game, smother them every time they get the ball.

Just to add to that O'Carroll was withdrawn altogether and replaced with Ben Quinn on the bench

I was great to beat Kilkenny, but at a risk of being a killjoy you'd have to look at the players Kilkenny have to come back into that team and recognize that it was a fairly intact Dublin squad. I can't really see this win standing to Dublin too much later on in the year of the sides faced off again.

Having said all that being beaten by that particular Kilkenny selection might have been hard to recover from, so it was an important win I think, rather than a great one.

How the win bodes for the championship really shouldn't be an issue at this stage.

Dublin are under new management, new style, new faces and positions. The game on Sunday and the games thus far should be seen as a fantastic start, nothing more.

Let them lick their wounds and talk about how great they'll be come June if they must.

4: Play them when they are missing 8 first choice players

If you're going to make that point the same applies for Dublin. Playing under a new manager trying to work out who his best team is, playing players in different positions etc.

We're not missing 8 first choice players and those who played Sunday may go on to be first choice but we certainly don't have a settled team yet either.

Anyway all that Sunday counts for is the two points in the league and nothing else

Either I underestimated how much sore losers Kilkenny are or you guys are actually making up excuses for yourselves as you've lost a lot of confidence with all the retirees.

V disappointing to see the lack of new talent on the subs bench. Surely some more of the U21 side narrowly beaten by Wexford in lasts yrs Leinster final should be involved, hthe likes of Glen Whelan/McCleland/O O'Rourke ect.
Dublin seem a lot slower than the other counties to trust and bring through young talent. All the players mentioned have Leinster minor medals.

U21 footballers make their seasonal debut in their second home O'Moore park next week. Should be a though one with Laois having a good win last night.

Of course our recent record indicates we win it every 2nd year, so this is more than likely a write off year  But in all reality they should give it a right good rattle again with the bulk of last years team still eligible. The benefit that some of the panel will have being around the senior set up should make them all the more prepared this time around. I'd expect the likes of Molloy, Byrne, Lowndes, Carthy, Costello & McHugh to show their influence in the competition. It should also offer the opportunity to Ross McGowan, Gavin Burke, Niall Scully & Conor Mullaly to set down a marker for future consideration with the big boys and Con O'Callaghan should be well capable of bringing his minor form into the 21 set up.

They should be hard beaten this year - but we only have to look to Longford 2 years ago to see that being formidable on a piece of paper doesn't guarantee success on the pitch - indeed Meath & Cavan in the semi last year had them well tied up. Personally I think the U21 championship both club & inter county is a great brand of football to watch

I confidently expect to have my surgery/clinic up and running in The Laurels Pub in Killarney Saturday afternoon off the 11.05 train, topic under discussion will include whether Kerry will be the 5th game in a row we'll be tasked with playing against a blanket defence and whether there's a 21st/wedding reception worth crashing in the town :D

Ref complete homer in the game. How that wasn't a red card is just shocking officiating.

I agree but to be fair Costello could of got his marching orders too. Molloy has to be number 2 in the championship.

Very poor 2nd half from Dublin.

How Donaghy is still on the pitch i'll never know, gets away with murder.

Can't give a opinion on the Costello incident as I,was not watching at the time. Currie has been rubbish with some of his decision making and kick outs.

The ref should have overturned the free instead of throwing it up. Mc Mahon I felt got a soft black card as well,no more then a yellow I thought,it's still no excuse for this second half performance.

Is there a more detestable player in Gaelic football then Donaghy.
